View Full Version : Sacrificial lambs
If they held the Nassau Dem convention, presume someone can tell me who the sacrificial lambs are against the Republican senators Balboni, Skelos & Co.? Did they recruit anyone who could do well or just the usual faithful?

Damn fools who agree to waste their time and money running for a job they have no chance of getting and getting no job thereafter?
Several Republicans could be quite vulnerable to a motivated campaign. The problem is that the Democrats will never reward a long shot run with anything other than the back of their collective hand, and an outstretched palm for more contributions.
As a result, people with local credentials and credibility who might run a credible campaign against a Republican heavyweight, catch a break or two, exploit a mistake and suddenly turn it into a horse race wouldn't dream of it. There are just too many examples of people who were played for fools, and not just by Sabbeth and his gang of thugs, but by the leadership in power now.
Until they learn how its done, the Democrat's leadership will hold onto North Hempstead and never be able to mount serious campaigns in Hempstead and Oyster Bay. They will continue to hold on by a shoestring.

OK, for all your yammering, none of those who replied to my original question provided an answer -- who are the Dem nominees against the Republican incumbents?
Is this Ketover guy Suozzi endorsed the Dem nominee against Skelos, anyway? How about the others?
Also, sometimes when somebody runs as a hopeless candidate, he gets recognition and gratitude for something later. Newburger, Banks both ran for state senate; Kaiman once ran for D.A.
Would seem that if the N. H. Dems found someone attractive vs. Balboni and used all their developer friends for financing, they could do well, assuming the nominee ran along with Kerry, Schumer...
Frankly, if the entire N.Y. Legislature just vanished overnight, we'd be better off, anyway. Can take Pataki, too....

I think that the right Dem nominees can win a Senate Seat in Nassau. I think the reps are worried about the Dem strength at the top of the ticket but the Dems have to give them a candidate worth voting for. Trunzo, Johnson and Lavalle are just about aged out in Suffolk, Skelos in Nassau. Not this cycle but by the next in 2-4 years if the Dems run their state assemblymen or popular CL's they can carry these soon to be open seats. Sorry Cato, I cannot asnswer your initial question as to who the Dems are running this year in the Nassau SD's.

Politics64 proved my point: we discussed more about candidates of 40 years ago than whoever was handed the nominations this year. Also interesting that neither Newsday nor the weeklies I see has mentioned them, either. Do they have an alliance with the Working Families Party? Who knows. Kerry + Edwards may get 65% of the Nassau vote but it's probably a safe bet that Skelos, Balboni & Co. are re-elected...
Meanwhile, interesting to see Speaker Silver is lawyering up over his Las Vegas visits. Maybe he'll be indicted soon and someone else replaces him.
