View Full Version : DO NOTHING 5TH PCT NCPD
Elmont
08-30-2005, 02:05 AM
This weeks Elmont Herald had a letter written by the head priest of St Vincents Church in Elmont printed in it. He spoke of an on going vandalisim problem at the church and the amount of money they had spent to repair it. He also wrote of graffiti damage to the church property.
He asked that the Elmont residents call and write letters to the NCPD asking for help since it seems that the superstars of the 5th can't find time to patrol. This is a disgrace. The NCPD is a reactionary Police Dept they only work (maybe ) if you call them via 911 ....ever call the 5th about a tractor trailer parked on a residential street overnight and you will get a great song and dance.
If a letter like this was printed in a community newspaper in the city the pct commander would be gone the next day!!!
Cars speeding, kids drinking, parking problems, abandoned cars, noise problems all are ignored by the 5th.
Wake up Inspector Atkins
Its the same in Suffolk.
Both County PD's are reactionary.

ARE you guys kidding me?!! I'm sure that there is a legit. vandalism problem going on in Elmont----but the 5th PCT. is one of the busiest, toughest, REAL COP precincts in Nassau County---if not THE busiest! I have met so many cops from there and other pcts. and they have one of the toughest areas around!! This is not a high and mighty pct.

I guess you moved from nyc to elmont. News flash i am gald as a nassu resident and former nypd that ncpd is not run like nypd. nypd is understaffed because they dont care about patrol only units that bring down thier FUDGE CRIME NUMBERS PRETENDING CRIME IS DROPPING. that bull compstat is nothing but a numbers game. plus patrol being shortchanged and residents calling the precint w noise complaints parol hold multiple jobs in backlog so when your house alarm goes off it will take them 2 hrs to get there because there are 3 cars working the precint at a time . thank god i dont live in nyc. thats why most of nypd lives in subs.
concerned too!!!

As a police officer assigned to the 5th Pct I think this issue could have been addressed better by the church contacting the 5th Pct. The church DID NOT place calls to the 5th Pct for youths on church property or for criminal mischief reports. I know for a fact that myself and other officers patrol the grounds quite frequently thoughout the night. Im not claiming that the church wasnt damaged but we dont have a crystal ball. If we do find people loitering or damaging the property we deal with the issue . There are people who reside on the grounds and all they have to do is pick up the phone and dial 911. I feel the church did this because they are having their feast this week and wanted extra police assigned to patrol the feast. Last year police brass attempted to save money and put the burden of patrolling a feast of a few hundred people to the police officer assigned to the post. (1 police officer). There were numerous fights and disturbances involving teenagers (some even gang members). While I support the church being upset over manning the last feast I dont feel making the patrol officer the bad guy the right way. Its the patrol officer who takes pride in making sure the community he polices is safe.

That feast is on its last legs anyway the Italian food would have to be replaced by jerk chicken and watermellon soon anyway. I would not bring my family there after dark......the same thing happend at st Boniface when the "dark Masses" drifted over the boarder from queens

YOU MUST BE JUST ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT THINK THEPOLICE HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAAN WORRY ABOUT A TRACTOR TRAILOR PARKED ON "YOUR" STREET. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET A LIFE. THE REASON "THESE" COPS DONT GET AROUND TO YOUR STUPID PARKING CONDITIONS AND A SQUIRREL ON YOUR FRONT LAWN IS THAT THEY ARE DOING POLICE WORK. PROTECTING YOU FROM REAL CRIME. AND THAN GO ASK TOM SUOZZI WHY THERE ARENT COPS RUNNING AROUND DOING PARKING TICKETS. HE CUT THE FORCE BASICALLY IN HALF. I AM ONE OF THE RADIO OPERATORS AND I CAN TELL YOU FIRST HAND THEY ARE VERY OVERWORKED. THE COPS ARE NOT PLAYING GAMES. ITS SUOZZI AND THE "APPOINTED" COMMISIONER WHO DOESNT HAVE A CLUE. IF YOU TOOK ALL THOSE "CHIEFS"INSPECTORS LIEUTENNANTS UP IN HEADQUARTERS AND PUT THEM ON THE ROAD MAYBE WE WOULDNT HAVE THIS BURDEN. BUT THEY DONT EVEN DO THEIR JOB THEY ARE WAY TOO BUSY FINDING OUT WHEN THE NEXT GOLF GAME IS GOING ON. SO DONT KNOCK THE COPS. THEY ARENT THE ONES YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT. GET THE DO-NOTHINGS UP IN HEADQUARTERS. THATS ALL THEY DO IS SIT ON THEIR FAT ASSES .DONT PICK ON THE COPS.

The 5th Pct is the busiest Pct ? Busy doing what ?
Try driving past Green Acres on Sunrise Highyway on a weekend.
Cars leaving the mall trail across th eastbound lanes blocking traffic through dozens of signal cycles reducing Sunrise highyway to 1 lane in each direction.
Ever see a patrol car on the median ? Never.
A cop handing out tickets ? Never.
I went to the pct to report repeated calls to my phone by a co-workers jealous husband that went from annoying to threatining. (No, he didn't have any reason to be concerned) Despite having recorded the calls and offering to play them back for the officer all I got was "What do you want me to do ?" !
I told him "I have the number call the guy and tell him to knock it off." or go by there and tell him in person or arrest him if you need to."
I was told, "Im not going to call him. These things usually just stop on their own." and the prize winner "we are aware of it." No report was taken.

The cops in the 5th are busy night and day handling Robberies, Murders, Shots fired, Assaults, and Domestics etc......its not the fault of the cops that your low priority call never gets answered.
How about writting Mangano and asking them to hire more cops or bring back special community patrols?

There are tons of reasons to bust Nassau cops balls, but when you say the 5th does nothing you project yourself as someone with no credibility. There's really no reason to argue with someone that close-minded.

Although The Police Officers In The 5th Precinct Are Professionals Many Still Spend Alot Of Time In Firehouses Watching Tv While They Are "in Service" Where Are The Supervisors Checking Up On Them. Inm Sure A Few Quality Of Life Issues Could Be Addressed.....anyone Want To Comment
Useless PD

This is nothing new. The NCPD has been shit canning reports for misdemeanor crimes for years. They are famous for telling crime victims they will make an entry in their activity log...which no one looks at.
Which is fine by me because by keep the reported crime rate low they are cutting their own throats when they ask for more cops.
Just be happy they didn't arrest you for trespassing in the police station and then go to court and lie about why they locked you up.

the patrol officers #1 job is to handle emergency calls. everything else falls in line after that. Theres simply not enough time to sit on a median and write tickets in a busy precinct. to the average joe, this is all you think cops do, but it is not the case.

The 5th precint has a liason to the local government. The crime is due to three main things: 1) Absentee landlordism. 2) Illegal Housing 3) "everyone is doing somethign illegal so no one reports.
If you want to get the trucks off the street or the cars, complain to Town of Hempstead building department and code enforcement. People who would break small laws break big laws.
Also, the illegal renters, become landlords themselves and rent to more peopel by subdividing the houses. The old crony landlords and the new immigrant landlords need to be cracked down.
The cops shoudl INSIST on code enforcement, this will (in time) make their lives much more reasonable.
