View Full Version : just asking
curious suffolk citizen

i saw suffolk police take a sunday newsday and
hand the clerk the cover page
this means that the store owner does not have
to pay newsday and the paper does not get counted
as a paper sold
does this defraud newsday ?
if yes please respond why a police officer is right to
defraud newsday
just asking
curious
SCREW NEWSRAG
Who cares anyway ?
i care thank you
08-29-2005, 10:21 AM
i care....
i detect anger in ur post..
i am not a fan of newsday, in fact i have complained
to newsday numerous times about the papers they
litter at my house without my consent.....
i am simply asking is this acceptable behavior for a
police officer?
if it is then i would like to know which other citizens
it would be acceptable to defraud newsday...
politicians?
firemen?
EMT?
priests?
rabbis?
thank you for any insight into this small matter

WoW
You have NOTHING else in the world to worry about other than who gets a free paper off newsrag?
And why just a concern about newsrag ?
What is your motive here ? Is your name Liz Moore?
Why not be concerned about free coffee?
rolls?
donuts?
gum?
sandwiches?
soda?
etc?
Your crusade for newsrag COULD be spent for more worthy causes.
How about WORRYING about the homeless?
A child that has no dinner?
Maybe abandoned pets & animals?
BUT NOOOOOOO
That free paper burns your shorts!!! ASS.
Heres an idea for you, why don't you go stake out one of those newspaper machines and inform newsrag every time someone puts their .50 in and takes more than ONE paper.
i detect hostility
08-29-2005, 11:43 AM
i am concerned about a great many things, this just
happens to have been something i noticed for the
first time yesterday. please be assured that i am
concerned about the other things you mentioned
but i have not witnessed free coffee etc and those
things i feel the shop keeper is free to give to the
police since the shopkeeper has to pay for it himself.
if i was the shop keeper i would have given the entire
paper, with the friont and back pages and paid newsday
the price of the paper, that way i would not be involved
in defrading newsday.
i mention once and it is a crusade?
burns my short? i don't think so, but it appears that
me asking has burned yours. why is that? i can only
guess buit maybe you can tell me yourself.
i am not interested in staking out a paper machine
looking for thieves
i was just curious what police officers, if they are reading
this, felt about this one incident i spoke about.
if i was the shop keeper i would have given the entire
paper, with the friont and back pages and paid newsday
the price of the paper,
So if you were the shop keeper you would not mind offering an unlawful gratuity to a police officer who is not to accept freebies?
thank you for responding
08-29-2005, 01:46 PM
thank you for responding!! and of course i would mind.
you say it is illegal to give a free newspaper
to an officer? is it also illegal for an officer to accept
a free newspaper?.....i thought so....
if i was the shop keeper and a police officer came
over to me and handed me the front and back page
of the newspaper, i would ask him to pay of course,
but if he didn't want to or he refused i would let him
have the entire paper and i would pay newsday
their money
also what is the penalty for offering the $1.50 illegal
gratuity? risking the penalty may very well be worth
it to the shop keeper to have police officers coming to
his store at all times during the day to get free newspapers,
rolls, drinks, etc.
what is the penalty to the officer if he is found to be
accepting the $1.50 illegal gratuity....
thanks for any insight into this matter,

WoW all this energy spent over a newspaper ?
Could you imagine if "concerned" found out the L.I.R.R. lets LEO's ride for FREE ?
what is a LEO
08-29-2005, 02:12 PM
if LEO is an off duty police officer or an academy attendee
i believe yes they let them ride for free. i have no problem
with that.
what is a LEO?
i believe i found LEO means Law Enforcement Officer
OF COURSE the LIRR would let a LEO ride for free
they want LEO's to ride the trains NOT the drive LIE
they want LEO's on the trains so they let them ride for
free
i would too, i see nothing wrong or illegal about that.

and newsday wants cops to read their paper, giving them away daily, SO WHATS THE PROBLEM?
by the way a LEO is a person born between July 23 and August 22.
:D
oh ok ty
08-29-2005, 05:21 PM
oh ok ty, so suffolk county police officers are allowed
to get free newspapers, i think thats cool.
please let me know what items i can give to my local
police officer and not have them or me violate and
laws or codes of conduct.
also am i allowed to give them money so they can buy
the papers that do not give them away for free?
also what other types of products can police officers
receive without it being against the law or policy?
food?
drinks?
cars?
lap dances?
money?
vacation homes?
cruise tickets?
airline tickets?
sports tickets?
i imagine the $ amount might have to be taken into
consideration.
so my question is, is their an amount of free stuff that
one can give to a suffolk county police officer? is there
a limit?
It is spelled "I&q

Hey idiot, the LIRR doesn't let cops ride for free. It's a state law allowing off duty cops to use mass transit at no charge. It came about in response to the Colin Ferguson shootings. State Legislature feels having armed, trained off duty cops on the trains will act as a deterrent to something like that happening again. The cop has to give up his seat if the train is crowded, and has to take police action if he sees something happen. Also has to act if railroad personnel request it. Not such a great deal if you ask me. I'd rather pay the fair and maintain my anonymity. That way I would take police action when I deem it necesary, not when the conductor does.

absolutely. i dont want some turkey blowing my cover just because some losers head phones are too loud. let the crooks know who you are and i am sure you will be the first one they take out. not a bargain at all.

I wouldn't pay one cent for a Newsday. They never fail to put their liberal anti police spin on any story they can. Why let the facts get in the way of a good story? They can't even report their circulation numbers with any honesty. Can't tell you how many incidents I have first hand knowledge of, only to read the science fiction the next day. Only thing they ever manage to get accurate is the time and place. The rest is an editorial. I'll take a free Newsday to read the sports, or check the movie listings. They haven't managed to spin those yet. After that I'll use it to paper train the puppy, or line the bird cage.

Nope. Just means they were out of toilet paper in the mens room.

if u think i an an idiot then please do yourself a favor
and stop responding to me. if i truly am an idiot then
your words are useless, if i am not an idiot then you
merely make yourself look foolish.
it appears the law makes the police officers work for
the ride, so if the officers pay and benefits are $75 an
hour it appears that the LIRR and the State and the
Taxpayers are truly ripping off the police officers.
The ride to the city may be 1 hour. Why not give the
police officers $75 cash (which they will include on their
tax returns) to ride the LIRR into the city?
i am trying to understand and learn. you know very little
about me or who i am. i seek information.
also please be advised that never once have i used the
words "cops" as u do. i always refer to them as police officers
since i have great respect for them.
i agree with you about newsday, very liberal bias paper
that is...
also it was not for toilet paper, the officer came in, took the
paper minus the cover and left. i do have the car number,
time and date but this is not about that.
this is about me learning what is acceptable behaviour.

Yeah why SCPD is a reactionary force instead of a proactive force.

Yeah why SCPD is a reactionary force instead of a proactive force.
If by "proactive force" vs. "reactionary force" you mean shooting people armed with cell phones and wallets instead of shooting people armed with guns and knives, you're absolutely right.

Sorry, buddy, but your little inquiry about "acceptable behavior" gives you away. I don't believe for one millisecond that you are any of the things you listed. Don't try to gain my confidence by pretending to be just like me. You're not, so quit the charade.

i am all those things i listed. if you are all those things i list that
i am ( you say i am pretending to be just like you ) then where
we differ is that you have made a judgement about me based on
quite very little information, and you have told me that you
believe i am a lier. knowing i am a truth teller (and a seeker
of information ) gives me a bit of information about you and
your thinking and quite possibly your behavior?
i am curious, are you a police officer? you seem quite defensive
my original question stands "is it acceptable behaviour for a
police officer to take a sunday newsday, and hand the clerk
the cover pages. this indicates to me a conspiracy between
the officer and the clerk to defraud newsday."
i personally do NOT think it is acceptable behavior
please tell me if i am wrong and if i am wrong please give reasons
as to why the behavior is acceptable.
.................................................. ................................................
ps. i will not be getting into other behaviors such as letting drunk
off duty police officers off with just a warning. sometimes those
warned do not heed the warning and continue to drive drunk
and some have killed innocent persons, that i believe is wrong,
the newspaper thing is small but it leads to behaviour questions
that i have a curiosity about.

OMFG !!!
TRUTH TRUTH TRUTH ???????????????????????????
If it is the TRUTH you seek why do you come to an internet message board ??????
Why not call 631 852 6000 and ask a REAL police Officer ????
THAT WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR !

Worry about your own behavior and stop trying to engage in a debate. You obviously have an agenda or an axe to grind, or maybe you really are writing a term paper and you're just too lazy to do the research yourself. If you're a lawyer looking to dig up some dirt, go burn in hell.

just glancing by on this ridiculous post....yea so what if he did? you would do the same thing if the owner of the store let you. Little things like this happen all the time! You've never given your friend or someone a "special discount" at your job? please we all have. blame the shop not the PO if you want to wag your finger

I think it is wrong for a cop to take anything for free from a store. It creates an appearance of improriety and makes the cop look like he is running a protection racket.
I have seen many Suffolk cops take free food from stores and free newspapers and coffee. At best it looks really bad. It looks like they are shaking people down.

Hey douchebag, I don't think you want to get into a pissing contest comparing the integrity of Suffolk cops to city cops. You're going to lose that one BIGTIME. I've seen many city cops locked up for more things than can be believed. For crying out loud the city will hire you if you haven't been RECENTLY arrested for a felony.

Oh come on we're all POs here...stop picking on one another. In the end its still us against them and whos gonna have your back? Is it wrong to TAKE things? Yes. Is it wrong to accept a freebie from a friend? Probably not if the store owner and you are buddies. Just another thing the public will never understand! I go to this bagel store in my area every tour I work because my friend from back in high school owns it and we shoot the breeze for 5 minutes every morning I work. Yeah why SCPD is a reactionary force instead of a proactive force.
Suffolk (and any police department on long island) is reactionary because of all the dopey liberal white people that live there. As a ex city guy who works in Suffolk now, I'll tell you I'd rather deal with some savage than the Kerry/Edward retards that think you should know they are "good" people from staring at them. The brain surgeon who cares about the newspapers needs to scrape the Kerry sticker off the back of his 1992 BMW 525 and just mind his own business.
P.S. If you want to make a cop happy and you have such respect for them do this......next time there is an overturned car and the cops have the street closed.....dont try to squeeze your car around the whole thing and then say " can I get through here?"

Somebody poke this thread with a fork. It's done.
You are worried about Newsday being ripped off after they ripped off all of their advertisers with false circulation figures in the much reported scandal? What about the thousands and thousands of papers they printed and then gave away for free or threw in the garbage so they could bolster their circulation numbers?
Newsday and other papers make their money from the advertisers in the paper not the price readers pay. Fraudulently bolster Newsday's circulation and they increase their profits!
They produce loads of extra papers everyday that never even leave the plant or the back of the delivery trucks. It is the cost of doing business.
BTW, was the paper a day old paper that was going to be thrown out anyway except for the cover page? Because that is what the dealers do everyday!
Do you know Newsday transportation drivers routinely drop papers off at Police booths and relieving places for the cops to read? Should they not pick them up and let them blow away in the wind? I'm just curious like you!

There ya go. This thread is done alright. There's the gravy, biscuits, and a big old slice of whoop ass pie.
Newsday defruaded its advertisers for years.
Every year they post cops and sheriff's salaries. Like to see the amout they stole from advertisers.
