There is alot of misinformation floating out there. Yes the tax rate is the highest in the State because they have too few taxpayers only 900 homes vs. the average district that has 4,000 homes plus over 100 commercial properties, but GHFD has NO Debt! Building and all Bonds are paid off in full, tons of new trucks all paid off etc.. This is a asset rich district that should be taken over by another district with ease who will benefit from the situation once the RFP's go out.

The high debt rumor was started by the GHFD so no one would be interested in absorbing them.

does not matter, even if they has $50's in every pocket of their turnout gear it's plain and simple. NO ONE WANTS THEM, why would any other district take on the problems and costs that go with this takeover plan.
Lets face it, the town takeover proposals and review are just to shut up the residents, the plan is to do nothing but make it look like we are doing something
THe fact that they have no debt tells me they are well managed.

It's easy o be well managed when you have the power to charge the highest fire taxes in NYS.
The GHFD must learn to be well managed while still living within the means of the community to pay

So What... No debt. Even if that is true the cost of that district is well...not in line with the economy. What kind of cool aid are you drinking. Just another version of bullshit economics. That Tax rate is over the top. Try it again ASSHOLE.

GHFD has less than 20 structure fires each year and all four surrounding districts show up. As for the EMS calls 30% are mutual aid leaving about 1 call a day within the district - that's a piece a cake for any district to pick up for a 2.3 Million dollars worth of taxbase, a building that is paid off and an entire fleet of apparatus. The reason they have no debt is because they have extorted these outrageous and unconciounable taxrates for years without residents' understanding what was going on.
I am so glad they have been educated on how to read their tax bills.

You sound like someone in denial. Who are you to state that NO ONE WANTS THEM? When you say "we" are you one of the Town Cronnies or are the Gordon Heights Chief whose an EGOTISTICAL BIGOT and thinks he owns the Gordon Heights community?
Unless you submit the RFP's you cannot make that statement.

The problem is not debt in GHFD.
The problem is that the average Fire District is 10 sq miles,
4000 homes, plus commercial to support a Fire District.
GHFD only has 1.7 sq miles, 900 homes and little or no commercial property to even speak about.
The fire taxes are off-the-chart compared to all the surrounding districts.
30% of the EMS are outside the District but the GHFD have to pay to service those other residents. Therefore, GHFD is already a sub-station to
Coram and Middle Island.
It's time to WAKE UP and Face Reality. GHFD residents are spending money to take care of other residents, but those commissioners in MIFD and CFD refuse to take us on as their taxbase !! Why not?
And please don't answer RACE !! Because Coram and MIFD already service more than 1/2 the GH community.

Is GH the only district on Long Island faced with these high tax rates? Are there others? Why is all the focus always on them? There has to be other districts in the same situation?!?

Negative. See www.ghfdtax.com for more details.
The average firetax rate in Brookhaven is $391.00 - pretty consistant across the Island. GHFD has the highest rate in all of New York State
The average fire taxes in GHFD is $1,400.00
Coram is the second highest rate but is still half of GHFD. Big difference is they have big bonds which should be paid off soon and additional land left with future taxbase available to offset the rate. Furthermore the rate in which the rate rises is four times slower than GHFD because there are so many more people to absorb the increases.
GHFD has no economy of scale which is why dissolution is the only solution.

That's awfully harsh! Why the sudden attack on the Chief? This great Sultan has done and continues to do wonders for the Gordon Heights community. That comment appears to be personal and lacks professionalism.

I have no idea why the person called the Chief a bigot. I have never seen it . I am not questioning what the Chief has done for the Community but I am questioning his spending habits which are not in keeping with what the community can afford. I am also criticizing the ability of three members of the Board to critically analyze the Chief's requests.
The GHFD is not Yaphank. You will not be getting thousands of dollars from Caithness. You must learn to live within your means. You are small. You want to remain small. Therefore you must SPEND SMALL.

You compare the Chief to the Great Sultan? LMAO.
He must be proud to REIGN, ops I mean RULE, ops, Stand above, ops,
... er, be the Chief of a community filled with sex offenders, druggies, hookers and people with License Plates from the Great State of NC.
Keep taxing the homeowners out of the district and you will finally have the Perfect World you wish to achieve. People who have no vested interest to preserve the Community as it once was.

Bingo. You nailed it. He is not even from the heights. He is an egomaniac who thinks he owns his sheep, but i don't blame him 100% - he is being allowed to continue this behavior unchallenged by our elected officials to date.

Why don't you take your head out of the sand and be a responsible taxpayer? My guess is that you no notheing about a fire district other than the fact the trucks could be red?

If the GHFD had an ALL WHITE Commissioner Board that was imposing these off the chart tax rates on the GHFD community would Connie Kepert allow it to continue and what would the drum beaters have to say?
