If Kate Murray really cares about the middle class, she'd get her soory azz oout of her Levittown home and see what her fellow
neighbors are going thru. Take a look at your town tax bill lately, specialized services are over 13% on average with the general purposes tax at under 4.5%.

Talk about Highway robbery. Look at the Levittown Water District.
A quarterly surcharge of $5.00 on top of $20.00 bill.

Thanks for caring about us Kate. We'll remember in November who is looking out for us - AND ITS NOT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pity those who vote for Kate.

Any moron could see the plus signs under the Town of Hempstead
tax bill that good ol' Don Clavin sends to the downtrodden.

If Kate said no increases in taxes, she is flat out lying.

The problem is that Harvey levinson keeps jacking up the assessments on your property. Compare you assessments for the past two years alone. Higher assessments results in higher taxes.

Now harvey wanst and income tax along with teh property tax.

No thanks taxing harvey!!!!

Lets not forget... the assesment increase come from the company Charlie brought in .... it all starts with us (GOP) and we are doing nothing right to change it. We complain about the MTA ( that baord is appointed by us ) We company about school taxes (thats Albany we currently run that too) When do we get back to our conservative roots?

The tax issue on Long Island isn't a Democrat or Republican issue, it's an Albany and Washington issue. Albany routinely issues directive ording local governments to fund Albany programs without any money from the state. The federal government does the same thing, passing the buck directly to the states or, by passing the states, and sending it to the county or town levels. No Child Left Behind is a perfect example of this. The Federal Government issues a list of requirements that schools must meet, but doesn't provide them with the funding. Well, where is the money going to come from??? You guessed it... hikes in our local real estate and sales taxes. Of course, Washington and Albany get to brag about the wonderful job they are doing keeping our taxes down, but you're going to have to pay for it someplace.

Here's the real kicker though, Nassau really gets screwed!!! We are, per capita, the largest tax base in the state and we receive the least amount of assistance. Putnam County, Broome County, and almost every upstate county receives more than 25% more money per public school student as Nassau. In fact, it is the Nassau County tax base that is subsidizing the rest of the state. We send out $1.8 for every $1 we get back. What kind of crap is this??? In the meantime, our real estate prices are through the roof to the point were we are losing the 20-35 demographic because they can't afford housing here and a small cape in Wantaugh is being taxed at over $10,000 a year. That's just simply insane!!

Sure, we can't place all the blame on Albany and Washington... there's plenty to go around. We have almost 10,000 government employees in Nassau County. We have a County government, five town governments, incorporated villages, cities and then minor governments like elevator and garbage collection districts, not to mention school districts. There is so much duplication, of course there is going to be tremendous expenses that go along with it. The shocking thing is that most of the "big government" was implemented by the Republicans, who dominated Nassau County politics for the past 100 years. How could the party of small, efficient government allow this to happen??? The tax problem in nassau wasn't caused by democrats or republicans, it was caused by power and greed. Jobs created to repay favors... civil servants that have long outlived their usefullness that are essentially being paid for no-show jobs... sweetheart contracts for friends and family.... not to mention pure out-and-out graft!!!! This county was run into the financial toilet by an irresponsible leadership and it's finally turning things around, but it's going to take a lot more time.

Hallelujah Brother!!

Amen!!! Someone has to pay for all this government in Nassau County. What do we get for all this??? Not very much.

Not only is Nassau County subsidizing other counties in the state but we are subsidizing other entire states as well. New York pays more into the federal government than it gets back.
