so Auntie Angie wants to merge the Parks Police with the Sheriffs to save money. So I guess she plans on paying deps at the lower Parks rate, huh?
Or will the Parks guys get an INCREASE?
Yeh, she'e a winner alright...

Average Trooper in LI makes 115k compared to a Suffolk/Nassau Cop (Sheriff 130k) who make approx. 150k. Fact is the State Police have 40 Troopers awaiting a transfer to the island and they already have the plans in place for a takeover of the LIE & Sunrise--these plans were est. in 2007. In 2007/08 two academy classes were preparing to go to LI upon graduation.
Both counties are insolvent--Nassau has a 300 million deficit. Every other county in the state has Troopers which patrol state roads (LIE & Sunrise are state rds), with the exception of Westchester--Hutchinson/Bronx River/Saw Mill parkway are patrolled by West. County Police & the state compensates Westchester for these patrols.
It cost each County in LI around 20 million to have county police/sheriff on the LIE & Sunrise. How the state continues to flout its responsibility, especially in these tough economic times, to provide state police to patrol their roadways is beyond my comprehension. Where are the politicians and why is this not mentioned in Newsday? LI sends 300 billion in state taxes to Albany & in return we are shafted and forgotten.

have heard a number of the Leg. repub candidates spew forth the same idea.... Why does no one ask how much the pay increase to the 50 parks cops is going to cost the county?

The best measure of whether or not you are being paid fairly for the work you are doing is to see how many qualified people apply for your job when a position opens up.
Just like teachers, judges, and various other grossly overpaid public employees, there would be dozens if not 100's of qualified applicants for every job opening.
When a police officer job opens up and no one takes the job, then its time to increase the compensation.
Not happy with the pay? Then go into the private sector and find someone willing to pay you "what you are really worth" Good luck to ya!
Maybe its time to have the SCPD, NYS Troopers, Suffolk Sherrif's Dept., (and perhaps Blackwater Security for good measure?) present sealed bids to take over patrolling of the 4th Precinct starting January 2016 just to see how it works out. The organization with the lowest bid gets the gig.
it'll never happen but its an interesting thought.

And what happens when Arrow Security ends up being the lowest bidder? You guys think you have it all figured out. You want to change the rules, break the contracts, replace the judges, heck, the repub candidates are now calling for an overhaul of the court system. Help us out here, tell us WHAT part of this nation you DO like? What's next, the Constitution? You sir, do not deserve the freedoms this nation has bestowed upon your ignorant arse.

Cut every civil servant's salary by 40% and less than 5% would quit. because they all know they get paid too much. They could not work elsewhere even if they could find work.
If arrow security won the bid there'd be 3 times the number of patrols for less cost. you dont need a degree to be good cop. the dropouts at Arrow would do a fine job. At least as good as the cops in the 2nd precinct. you know its true but just scared to face it.
I am free market capitalist. I know that when a job is offered and 100's of people apply or it then the compensation offered is too high. Conversely, when a job is offered and no one applies, then the compensation is too low.
I love this country that is why I am looking for another place to live in it. Luckily my job is transportable. It makes me sick to think that I have paid $120,000 over the past ten years to live in Suffolk County and I have no savings. I work to support a bloated government.
When there are nothing but civil servants and stockbrokers living here, remember this post. Ill be saving my money elsewhere.

A "free market capitalist" who can't save? Maybe if you downgraded your cable package, brown bagged it a couple of times a week, and bought a used Toyota instead of leasing that Land Rover, you'd have plenty of savings. YOU are what's wrong with Long Island, a quintessential LI blowhard with unreasonable expectations that everything should be handed to you. I'm very sorry that you didn't save, I'm sorry that you spent all that equity from your McMansion and now owe more than it's worth. I'm sorry that your elected leaders didn't contribute a dime to public employee's pension funds because they lived large off the fund's market gains. Goodbye, LI won't miss you, and when the strong and willing work out the painful solutions to our current problems, please do us all a favor and stay away.

...not really.
i live in South Huntington have a masters degree and took a five day vacation last year. That's it.
My wife works part time in a doctors office doing medical billing. We live a modest lifestyle but but save every dime for our 3 kids college education. A Range Rover? please...I haven't ever bought new car and the car I drive is 4 years old.
The irony here is that you cops are so insecure that you think that all of society looks down on you. Just the opposite is true. In reality most middle aged guys are so envious of you for making a great career choice. Oh well! Can't change that now, but I'll be damned if I'll sit back and listen to cops bitch about not being paid enough or their "dangerous" job when most go out on disability for back injuries from sitting on their asses for 20 years.
If you are a cop and you DON'T own a boat or car less than tree years old, please raise your hand...
