View Full Version : New Question: ideal background to be a legislator

What do people think the ideal background is for a person who wants to be a legislator? What type of work experience, education, real life experience, etc.?
I don't even know the background of a lot of the current ones, so I'm wondering how they got where they are.
The most redeeming quality for a Nassau County legislator is having a single digit IQ.
On the Repug side
not being able to get a job on your own
the only experience you have is feeding out of the public trough
must be able to lie with a straight face
must always remember to kiss Mondello's ring
If your from the TOH be able to slick back your hair
:P

you must be able to say "Yes Peter, whatever you say" as many times as possible with no thought to your own thoughts or beliefs.
forget your constituents, forget the truth, forget your morals----just say "Yes Peter, whatever you and Joe Mondello want".
just a job

Too many people (especially the Republicans) in Nassau County see the government as a place of employment rather than a place of service.
It doesn't matter what kind of background you have to be a politician. What matters is that you have integrity, honesty, courage, and the willingness to do what is right despite pressure from special interests who only want to preserve their short term interests. It's a huge sacrifice of your time and for the most part is a completely and utterly thankless job. Many times a politician is damned if they do and damned if they don't.
One of the reasons why government fails so often is precisely because so many good people stay away from it. Who in their right mind would want to hold elected office? Constant public scrutiny, endless criticism, and the constant "what have you done for me lately" attitude. It takes either a large set of cojones or a gigantic ego to get into politics.
Then there is the issue of money. You need a ton of cash (usually) to get elected to office and so many politicians spend an inordinate amount of time whoring themselves for money. It's unseemly. The result of this is that politicians are becoming a class of the super rich because they are the only ones who can afford to run (e.g. Bloomberg, Corzine, Bush, the list is endless). It's less true in local politics but just look at the amount of money Suozzi is raising locally, it's significant.
What about Roger Corbin

And his wife got the nod from the dems for town board talk about feeding at the public watering hole

if the LD is populated with drones of the demcratic party lets face it they are not smart enough to think for themselves they just want hand outs, freebees and they are conditioned from birth that the democratic party will act as a well that can be milked to sustain there miserible existance that they wallow in, and if they do get a job- in government you will have a Sylver or this other bozo from the city that worked in parks (shazam shabazz) Like we dont have enough idiots in nassau now they are being uimported fron NYC, I wonder if he was this craftey in Rep. Rangels office?
Before somone talks about greasing there hair back they should look around the CEs office first!!!!!

Look for people that have done for their community without the patronage positions, without the handouts, with nothing but heart and soul to do the right thing...they do exist!
What about 'what's his name' ...who's opposing him in november. It's surely time for Rog to go...he hasn't done $#!%...

For the love of GOD everyone who has a brain in LD2 should vote for Michael Alexander!!!
This plea goes out to all of you who know the truth about how our neighborhoods have suffered under the mis-management and pure greed of RC.

IF YOUR BLOND (OR NOT) AND GOOD LOOKING, JUST SLEEP WITH THE GOP CHAIRMAN (COUNTY OR TOWN IT DOESN'T MATTER). IT IS A REAL CAREER BUILDER.
THESE GUYS ARE REALLY POWERFUL AND CAN TAKE CARE OF LOTS OF GIRLFRIENDS AND THEIR WIVES DON'T SEEM TO CARE. I MEAN THEY'RE NOT BLIND, THEY MUST SEE WHAT IS GOING ON.
ANYONE WANT TO POST A LIST OF THE GOP CHAIRS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS AND THEIR GIRLFRIENDS.........NASSAU, ALBANY, WASHINGTON.
EX-WIFE/S, NEIGHBORS, STAFFERS AND FELLOW COMMITTEEPERSONS ARE ALL WELCOME.
oh only GOP's....cause dems don't sleep around...right?

oh only GOP's....cause dems don't sleep around...right?
Democrats don't sleep around because they too cheap to pay cash for a hotel room. So they stash the intern under the desk, or they pay for the "happy ending" on the IDA Credit Card.

gee, I hope all you are proud. Because of your political game of trying to show up the head boss in Mineola, you neglected to think of those who really suffered. Gas, heating oil, and just about everything went up, except our salaries. Our union negotiated in fairness to the taxpayers of this county. I, for one thought the contact was weak, and we didn't get anything worth while, but we went for it, to help save the taxpayers money. The PBA is sooooo worried about our contract, let me have theirs.

I don't get it....if they CAN in fact re-open it has to be for a good reason; if the PBA deal was actually BETTER than the SHOA deal then what basis does the PBA have to reopen? Is it because they had more "givebacks".....I don't get it
