MOHLENHOFF PROPERTY

Dear Mohlenhoff Property Owners,

Please sell your property to whomever you want.
May I suggest that you sell to the highest bidder?

If the town wants to preserve the property I am sure
they can take a small portion of their cash and give you
fair value and well in excess of what the school board
is offering. May I suggest $800,000.00 an acre or a
total of $ 9,280,000.00. This is a very fair price considering
the value of land on Long Island.

If a group of 1,000 concerned citizens wants to preserve the
property they can each chip in $10,000.00 ( their property
has increased far more than that in the past several years )
and they can buy the property for $10,000,000.00.

Good Luck to you and your family.......

Sincerely,

Wayne R.

Facing questions, candidate repays rent
--------------------

Suffolk County Legislature candidate Frank Gargano paid no rent for 18 months in 2003 and 2004 on an office in Melville funded by a state grant to the chamber of commerce in Huntington.

Gargano, a Republican from Dix Hills running for the 16th district in Huntington, paid all of the $7,200 in back rent to the Suffolk-Nassau Chamber of Commerce at Huntington last week after questions were raised by the organization's new president, Michael Forbes.

Gargano said he had a "barter agreement" with Forbes' predecessor, Dennis Sneden, to do public relations work in exchange for the space. Sneden, who resigned in December after his expense account spending was questioned by chamber officials, said Gargano worked "pro-bono," but got the space as an "in-kind service."

Yet Forbes said Gargano should have been paying $400 in monthly rent all along, and the grant's legislative sponsor has called for an inquiry. After the chamber lease expired a year ago, Gargano remained, paying $700 per month.

The discovery comes amid a wider financial review of the chamber started by Forbes.

Under terms of the state grant, the office was supposed to be used as an "employment resource center" for individuals and businesses.

But Forbes, who took over as chamber president five months ago, said the center was never opened. He said Gargano used the office for his public relations business between January 2003 and July 2004.

The chamber, under Sneden, included the cost of operating the office as part of a multipronged $250,000 grant administered by the Empire State Development Corporation, which is headed by Gargano's uncle, Charles Gargano.

Charles Gargano, a longtime adviser to Gov. George Pataki, said he did not know his nephew had used the space. He emphasized the grant was one of hundreds of items sponsored by lawmakers that his agency administers. "It was not a choice we made," he said.

To date, the state has reimbursed the chamber $112,000 and further payments are being withheld pending talks, Charles Gargano said.

Sen. Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset), who sponsored the grant in 2002, said he was unaware Frank Gargano had used the space and asked state officials late last week to stop payment temporarily on the unspent $138,000. He also asked the agency to seek restitution, if needed.

Meanwhile, the chamber's executive board at Forbes' request has authorized a forensic audit to review all public grants, and chamber officials have briefed Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota, who declined to comment.

At first, Gargano told Newsday he had paid rent to the chamber. But when pressed, Gargano said he paid $7,200 in back rent only last week.

Despite Forbes' contention, Gargano said he paid after his accountant brought the non-payment to his attention. A short time later Gargano said he had an oral "barter agreement" with Sneden. Still later, Gargano said his accountant advised him to pay the back rent because of media inquiries.

"I did five times the amount of work [promoting the chamber] than the space cost," said Gargano. He said he "had no knowledge" the space was funded by a grant administered through his uncle's agency.

According to the grant, the suite at 35 Pinelawn Rd. -- two offices and a reception area rented from Reckson Associates at a reduced rate of $400 per month -- was supposed to be an employment resource center "with its own dedicated office equipment, computer hardware and resource library."

Forbes, a former Republican congressman who turned Democratic, said he has determined no employment center was ever set up. He also said other items funded by the grant never got off the ground. "It absolutely never happened," he said.

The only part of the $250,000 grant that was accomplished, Forbes added, was about $40,000 worth of work on the Soldiers and Sailors museum in Huntington, though other grants also contributed.

Sneden said the employment center and other parts of the grant were fulfilled. He said the Melville space was "in continual use," but added it was envisioned "as a satellite office."

"I should have been paying him as my receptionist," Sneden said. "He was providing a service, it was my name on the door, not his."

the person speaking of garetano on the school board knows nothing about our community. Garetano was not involved in this deal from the beginning. He is the only one who gave honest answers and worked hard for all the people of South Huntington. No matter how you try, you can;t sully his reputation. Its impeccable.

don't go there

In the words of the Great Philosopher Archibald Bunker....

This is all CRAPOLA!!!!

King Kaden,Pattiwhack Dillon,Bob 'The Rant' Keen,Dennis 'The Menace' Garetano and Gary 'Pizza Pizza' DeLorenzo have from the beginning been plotting at the expense of the SH taxpayers their next move to locate the Bus Depot at Silas Wood regardless of the residents objection.
This latest 'plan' involving the Mohlenhoff property is just a ruse to shove it down our throats! The only people benefitting from this is the H2M firm who has been raping us of our taxdollars.
The newest board members themselves are just as guilty as the previous members who have been booted out...at least Garetano was suave enough to sidestep being ousted.
Kaden's Knights of Corruption? Not a bad analogy.
