Looks like the only one crying is you over the fact that the nominations didn't go your way. Get over it. As for Pete the Puppet, the only thing he's holding together is his ability to kiss the commissioner's asses.

not at all, we all know that department elections are nothing more than a popularity contest. if elections were based on merit, achievement and personality, the only one in that office would be Pete. Norton won the last election due to his opposition. No other reason. If i remember, he only had 10 points over the minimum when he won that election. that should ahve warned people that his response was poor at best. what did he do as company captain, NOTHING, he brings nothing to the table for the department, and that is only when he shows up to the table. i guess he thinks that stopping down for a few minutes a couples of times a week is acceptable. The fact the the previous quote is totally true - and even most of those who supprt elections - would admit that,(and they like that way because it gives THEM the power to pick their friends and/or themselves), the election process (especially for chief officers) is the main factor that will lead to further decay of the volunteer fire service and eventually (no matter how far away) to the replacment of the volunteer fire service in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. I am sure that many thought that it would never happen New York City and many other places.

The system could be fixed by having county level qualifications as ther are for plumbers, electricans, home improvment contractors, etc. and then have those who qualify the highest, pass a promotion board.

Of course the current membership would never go for this as probably over 90% of those now in office, would not qualify and therefore not hold their positions. Will it all ever change, I believe that it will have to but I doubt if it will happen anytime soon.

And you still haven't adddressed the fact that Pete the Puppet is behaving like he's the 6th Commissioner. He panders to the board and they call the shots. He's just their lackey. He blurs the line between the back office and the Chief's office. And that's what's really hurting this department.

I am a long time resident of Islip Terrace and have been reading this thread for the last couple of weeks and I'm feeling so reassured that my tax dollars are hard at work ... NOT! This is such a disappointment. I thought the fire department was supposed to be a brotherhood but all I see is bickering chidren. What is a matter with you people? You are right, there really isn't a brother or sisterhood anymore. Most blame can be addessed to the younger crowd and the economy. As for you and your concerns, I feel you should be more worried on how the Board of Fire omm., aka the board, or district office spends your tax dollars! People come on go in the fire service, but our taxes will always remain. I haven't seen too many people at the monthly board meetings. BTW, they are open to the general public.

Once again, you've proven my point. Why would anyone want to join the fire department when guys like you are obviously the lowest of the low? That's why you receive no respect, you don't deserve it. And it's no secret that the pretty much every fire department squanders the tax dollars they are given especially if you have stupid idiots managing that money. And if you are any indication of the kind of people that are members of this department, I have no doubt that the those tax dollars are being blown right out the window.
