West Sayville Chief Crashes Chief's Truck...flees scene!?!?!

Soooooo, anyone else hear that a West Sayville FD Chief was drunk and crashed his Chief's vehicle into several parked cars a few nights ago in his neighborhood in front of several witnesses, then fled the scene?!?!?! I heard two stories...one that he left and then came back to the scene later, and another that he never came back and PD found him at his house. And now, the same Chief is suspended from his Officer duties by the FD.

How is it that this crap can go on and just get kept so quietly?!?!?! If this is what happened, and if the Chief was in fact drunk and driving his company vehicle, he should not be suspended, but should be thrown out and thrown in jail!!!!! Shame on this person and this department! I am posting this in the hopes that the residents of this district see it and go nuts about it, as they rightly should!!! I hope that if this is true, the residents take it to every media outlet they can find, because if a Chief is pulling crap like this, they have completely violated the trust given to them. I, as a resident of that district, am completely outraged by this!!!!!

Easy enough to figure out, if said officer is suspended from office his vehicle should be parked at the firehouse. Just go down and look, if not there go to the next commissioners meeting and ask you have every right. I would not doubt it most of the members there hit the taps in the basement. Sounds like a lawsuit if true

WSFD loves to hide accidents from the public, like when the bucket on the NEW ladder truck was dropped on the cabinets and crushed them. This forced it to be trucked back to the factory, and then said truck had another accident. West Sayville is such a slow department they do not need 4 chiefs anyway this did a favor do away with the 4th chief like most other BUSY departments did years ago

To say this Chief was drunk is an assumption. The Suffolk County Police responded to the accident and spoke with the Chief after the accident. In their opinion, which the Police are the entity we trust to make these determinations for us, he was not drunk, then all they could do is write him a summons for leaving the scene of an accident (in the state on NY leaving the scene of an accident with only property damage is a summons). Now the issuance of a summons is soley the discretion of the Police Officer and if the Officer chose not to write it, that is their choice. Now start all the people saying that is not fair, we all have been let off of a summons at some point so you too have reaped the benefits of an Officers discretion.

I am not defending the Fire Department or the Chief who chose to do what he did. He was 100% wrong. He will get his punishment and the truck will be repaired and the citizens who had to suffer a loss as a result will be compensated. That is the reality of it.

(a) used the radio, truck still ran (so did he) so it was not so badly damaged that the radios would not work

(b) used his district provided cell phone

If you want to find out how bad the damage was to the chiefs truck just ask Auto Fix on Lakeland avenue in Bohemia, I was there getting my windshield fixed and took pictures of the damage. I wonder how much Newsday would give me for them?
