I don't think anyone has ever heard of them either. Sounds like a made up name to avoid taxes, etc.

The ignorance displayed on this website is beyond belief - comments offered by posters who have no idea of the facts do little to help our emergency services.

The Stony Brook University Hospital Responder Program on the East End provided two paramedic fly cars to assist the local ambulance corps during periods of heaviest demand. One car was assigned to the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance and Mattituck Fire Department area, the other to Manorville and Moriches. Although much used and very successful, budget constraints at Stony Brook forced cancellation of the program. They will be missed.092

Very sad news.

What happens to the Medics that manned the fast cars? Were they able to get picked up in the hospital or laid off?

Well, those departments must now step up to the plate and be self-sufficient. Next it is time to stop the Brookhaven National Lab from bailing out the surrounding departments!

YOU are a classic example of the wasteful, arrogant, UNprofessional that has tainted the volunteer service on L.I. You expect everyone to just sit back and feed the beast, no questions asked, relying on your opinions on what is needed to serve the community. While a prior poster was clearly antagonistic to the service, your response was inexcusable. The taxpayer HAS EVERY RIGHT to question where public money goes.

I was the person who asked what the Stony Brook Responder Program was. I have been living in Stony Brook since 1963 and had never heard anything about it. I found your response to my question distasteful and indicative of a very feeble mind. Your pompous assumption that "everyone" would just know about your program and what it entails is both short sighted and silly. It sounds like you had a decent thing going, too bad they couldn't find someone, (obviously other than you), to promote this program and preserve it's good works. Your shortcomings are indicative of many self proclaimed "elite" personalities currently running EMS systems and programs throughout the County. We need this or we need that because I SAY SO! Sorry but NO, this type of behavior will not only be questioned in the future it will be by passed in favor of someone or something that has the communication skills to explain to taxpayers and government officials their needs in detail.

It doesn't seem that "Stony Brook Responder" was asking any questions about the use of public or private money, but rather was employing a broadside to discredit a successful program about which he was uninformed.

A prejudgment such as that without any knowledge of the underlying facts or circumstances is most unfair. Perhaps it would have been better for him to have asked what the program was before dismissing it as "a made up name to avoid taxes, etc."

Criticism of wasteful spending is always in order, but criticism rooted in ignorance is destructive.

Yes, except someone actually asked about the program some idiot piped in with a disjointed response. The original poster then replied calling both posters ignorant. The second guy yes, but the first just asked what the program was because he never heard of it and lived in the area, his question appeared based in whether this loss would effect him and his family.

So it's official Thanks to Peconic Bay Medical Center kicking in some money and some political pressure on the local and stat level. SBUMC has reinstated the Responder Program. Unfortuntly so program is reduced to one vehicle located in the riverhead area.
