Johnny Boy Duer was on vacation in pennsylvania during the contract negotiations that got the co's their new contract?
he came back to sign the contract with suozzola, got his picture taken and zipped back to pennsylvania when the news hit the floors to avoid having to answer for ot caps and give backs?

Let me lay out some facts as I see them. The contract on the whole has some drawbacks. The fact that it is back loaded isn't going to help anyone get a woodie. But, on the other hand if you look at where you stand in the mix, it might be better than okay. For example, if your a midnight officer at top pay. This contract is a home run. Yes, the overtime rate will decrease over the life of the agreement, then you'll be making true time and a half. It's not the end of times. Forget the pop! You have to look at the big picture, you'll be making $90,000 to walk in the door. With night diff, holiday, and any overtime, making well over $100,000!! Let's be real boys and girls, look deep inside and tell me your not getting your money's worth! Who knows if the pop will thrive forever, you can't rely on it. Make more money for less hours incured. Then, add the pop to your total. The overtime cap is still pretty good if you can double your max rate! The sad fact is, if the contract is kicked back in Suozzi's face, we may not see anything for a very long time!

look at the big pic is right on the $$. true you will lose a few bucks on the o.t. rate, but thats if the o.t. is there to work. work less, get paid more in base salary, go home to see your wife, or the neighbors wife. you prob will not get much more than is proposed now. :wink:

to vote against a contract with guaranteed raises and other benefit issues is ridiculous!! the ot can go away at any time, but the higher rate of pay will stay forever as will the benefits.
you vote against this contract and you'll regret it ----wake up and smell the coffee.

I am a little red faced and embarrassed about this gettting out, but it is definetly NOT true....... I was never, and I repeat never intentionally in Pennsylvania on vacation with my family all weekend while my boys were finalizing my contract with Tommy Boy for me......Anyone who doesnt believe me can check the EZPass you bought for me and see that I was actually Upstate.....sorry for the inconvenience, I know how fast rumors get started on "the tiers"...by the way, my wife and kids are really mad because I missed the rodeo stampede Monday morning when I had to sign my contract......thankfully I made it back for the rocking horse races later on that afternoon!!!! :P :P :P Hi Ho Silver....Away!!!!!!!!!

this contract is a step in the right direction---ot formula's or not, but from what im hearing duer was in the mist the whole time---leaveing the grunt work for somebody else-----from what im hearing he's checking out places to retire now anyway.......

first off, jackass, how many kids do you have. Next question, how many of us, come here, and say, I can't wait to do a double. The reason soo many of us made decent money was to survive on this island. In case you haven't relized, the price of gas, heatin oil, and pretty much everything around us is always going up. How about you make a provision in the new contract that all cost of living expenses be held till 2007, just like most of the so called perks in this new contract. Before you were here, we worked for about 4 years without a new deal, and we, are willing to do it again. Overtime is not a privledge, like you state, you moron. How many of us were getting ordered as a privledge. How about addressing the current problems, with post closings, single officer hospital posts, single officer gatehouse post. Please, don't pat yourself on the back with your six year itch.

It is time for certain Correction Officers to stop whining, moaning, complaining and acting like "spoiled" children. I say "spoiled" children because most children I know act more like adults than the people I work with. Try showing respect to the job and fellow officers and people will respect you. By posting on this forum with bickering, degrading insults and airing dirty laundry you only demean the "good officers" who would not lower themselves to your standards. Offer solid, good constructive criticism in a professional manner. Stop embarassing the good officers in gray with your petty name calling. I don't know how this whole thing is going to turn out. I suspect that the contract is going to pass by a large margin. The best part is everyone you talk to says to your face, vote no. But, mark my words, those same people will vote yes when there behind curtain number one. Then they'll come out and say they voted no. I can't wait for the special meetings at the hall! Bring a cooler, and some boxing gloves and let the games begin!!!!

hey whats up fellas .i am a suffolk brother hack and i have to say this sounds like a good contract ..man our freakin union prez is a fat piece of shit stuffin his face on our union dues ..i dont know how many years on the job you guys have to do to make top pay but your top pay on mids walkin in the door ( 90,000 ) ...wow!!! our midnighter which i am 1 of ...at top pay ...5 steps ...is just about 75000... and i am being generous !!! we need a contract like you guys are getting offered ..i have to work over 65 o/ts to break 100000 $ ..what we really need is a copy of your previous and present contracts so our fat ass prez can use them as barganing tools for us ..we have been w/out a contract since jan 2004 ...and our county conciders us the red headed step children ...they give everything to cops and deps but we get shit ...i dont know ..i know i am lookin in from the outside but it seems like your union prez is doin the right thing for u. maybe i am wrong ..anyway goodluck fellas ...

How can you guys keep complaining about this overtime issue like its the end of the world? Overtime can dry up at any time. Get the base pay and benefits up, and the OT will follow in suit. Even if ot's paid at a lower percentage youre still getting paid at a higher base pay, so youre making out.
Stop believing all the naysayers and get your asses in the booth and vote yes (you know you will anyway). You know what'll happen if you dont? We'll be picketing (all 5 people that do) and we'll end up eating more at the next agreement. Guaranteed we'll be eating more zeroes and not seeing the bennies.

these are the facts
its not so much the OT rate it is the HOLIDAY RATE u should be worried about take the OT leave the HOLIDAY pay
the reason u get a high rate is a combo of reasons
1 where u work its a hell hole
2 u have to work holidays (so at least be well compensated)
3 the reason they give us that is so if you have to work and be away from your family on (sometimes) all holidays its worth it
but then again if you have a day job u dont care or are at top pay who cares less
if u think u are going to a bonus for not banging then u should come to work in shorts and change in that new locker room we got in 2001
COPS
when we get what they get then we can give back what they give back ie,
1 sick day 1 vacation day every pay period
night diff starts at 11am not for new hiree but for the vets it does
they dont get ordered to stay on holidays
they work outside in fresh air
they dont have to be with skids 8-16 hours a day
they dont work in mold, dirt, scum, leaks, etc. etc.
the real deal is there are a million reasons to argue our case the union needs to talk to the men and women and find the answers
dont forget most of ur union reps are at top pay and on midnites
its run by bosses for bosses
they should tell Tom we cant trust the sheriff giving us any thing look what happened with the locker room

Times have changed, the county is trying to be more fiscally responsible. Yes, we got more last time around when the county was broke. But, we had public support! We were working without a contract for more than a few years. This time around is much different, we don't have public support. People are fed up with the taxes in Nassau, and who could blame them. NIFA is watching, the public is crying, and Suozzi is not biting. People, wake up! Even if we vote this proposal in, the legislature could still say it's too generous and vote it down!

Sure our overtime rate is going down to time and a half, which is what just about everyone in the United States gets but lets see what we are getting.
a. 20% over six years
b. in 2007 we go from 6% to 12% for shift diff compensation
c. longevity increases never before seen
d. top pay lowered from 11 to 10 steps
e. retirees in 2006 see 6% increase in termination pay, in 2007
increases of 9.5%.
f. sick leave abuse remains the same.
g. equipment allowance increased for first time in over 20 years
h. matenance allowance for uniforms, never before seen.
i. we still have 13 holidays
Still think its a bad contract? Vote no and you will see a bad contract. Plus remember its possible Johnny do nothing may actuallly try and negotiate the next one if we vote no. Horseshoes, bibles and time and a half await.

It's a shame we have to give back anything when the county is in the black. But it looks like once again will take it up our crack! I'll give them 152hrs per month, time and a half, no more then double our top base within rank, and that's it!!!!
3 conceessions are enough we shouldn't have to work 24 hrs overtime for straight time and give up 6 month's retro. if these 2 things were changed to full retro at 3.5% not 2.5% and gave us CCT for the 24 hrs this contract would be ok, I didn't say good I said ok!

If you love Rikers that much, go back! Obviously the money and your talents served you more here then in Rikers. The money is always there if you want to make it. 2 1/2%, 3.5%, This contract is a gift to the County. Whether or not anyone else gets 1 3/4 time for OT is not relevant. That is the County's opportunity to reduce their OT payout by almost 15%. We left CSEA because they ratified every contract we voted down. Contract time is the time for us to Man up and fight. If you think they pay us too much then that is your self esteem problem. God bless the good citizens who pay us but if anyone thinks we are paid too much then take the test.

i guess you guys forgot that overtime is a part of this job that isn't going away. Everyone I know was hired to stop the pop. By lowering the overtime divisor we conceeded millions of dollars. Suozzola himself said it's cheaper to pay OT than hire. The difference now is that you will be doing it for a lot less ( it's more profitable to order you at a lower rate now ala Rykers). It was nice of the union guys to increase all the benefits they get (night diff, uniform allowences' longevity etc.) on the backs of the guys in security. If you don't think that the cooks make more than co's look at a cook11 's pay it's 30 dollars a pay period more than a co. Look at a kitchen supervisors pay (fake sergeant) it's more than sgt's pay. Don't even go to asst to Sheriff (chief of staff) or the new Supervisor of bldgs and grounds. For the first time in the history of this dept the Deps will make more than us (3 grade increase). In a time of prosperity this union gave way to much back. These guys do nothing but go on vacation, trips and golf outings. Since being in office these guys have increased their stipend, hired Donohue to do their work, moved off campus and tailored a contract to get themselves more money. WAKE UP SECURITY
