Calling For Resignations

Dear Editor:
As a lifelong resident of the Conservative Party, I have to say that I'm totally embarrassed by the remarks of the Huntington chair, Mr. Richard Thury, as reported by you last week. It is absolutely unacceptable and inappropriate to use the words he used to describe Suffolk County Legislator Allan Binder.

To further embarrass the rank and file members of the Conservative Party, Mr.Thury engineered, after not screening candidates for any office, the resignations of two named candidates on Conservative petitions, in order to allow Democrats Frank Petrone and Mark Cuthbertson to run on our line - outrageous!

Conservatives were approached to sign petitions that they thought were to promote the candidacy of Conservatives and would never have agreed to sign if they knew that they were signing for Democrats.

I have to conclude that this was preplanned on the part of Mr.Thury and Democrats Petrone and Cuthbertson. If these Democrats were such good candidates, why weren't they on the petition in the first place? No one can convince me that two incumbents, who control the jobs of two of the three people making the decision to put the Democrats on the line, were an after thought - after the named candidates "declined".

That is why I am, as an enrolled Conservative, calling on Mr.Thury and his vice chair, Charles Sullivan, to do the honorable thing and resign their positions. The Conservative party needs to get back to our ideological roots. We need to support candidates who support our platform. We need not be embarrassed by the actions and words of our Party leaders.

The Huntington Conservative Party will be ripped to shreds if as is stated on these web sites Conservative Leader Thury's right hand man Sullivan had forged over 40 signatures and addresses.

The irony of Richard Thury challenging the wording of councilmanic district petitions even though the signatures were deemed valid along with the addresses is truly shocking.

While Thury is having a judge throw out the councilmanic petitions for Huntington on a technicality his own party officials (and workers for Petrone and Town Government) are forging signatures of people who claim in an affidavit never to have signed the Conservative party petitions.

This is exactly the workings of politics in Huntington and also of the county. When third party leaders don't give a crap about principles or ideas but rather how can the major parties give the third party leaders more financial perks.

"delivered today to the DA, 40+ signed affadavits from voters who stated they never signed their names to the Huntington Conservative petitions, instead they were forged signatures.

Watch things go down hill in a hurry as the so called conservative leadership face the potential of jail time, all the dirt will come out.

I understand that Thury & Sullivan are honoring Mark Cutherbsen as their "Conservative Man of the Year" at a dinner !
