Tax payers in West Sayville were such fools to approve the extension on the firehouse, Today during a structure fire wsfd was forced to mutual aid many local fire departments to cover their asses, You know if it were a parade, a chance to play with their piece of shit race equipment, a BBQ or installation dinner there would have been a large showing. Go on and say it was the time of day or heat BULL SHIT. Thank YOU local departments for protecting the towns of west Sayville and Oakdale since they could not handle it

I was 24'd today

I wish to address the facts that this poster seems to have a cloudy vision on. I am a member of one of the departments that were called to the fire on Tyler today. Fact is every department mutuals other departments for fast/RIT teams, manpower, coverage at the their firehouse in the event of another alarm. Hey idiot, it had nothing to do with a parade, or whatever sad song your are trying to sing. When my department had a working structure fire, I was overjoyed to have manpower from surrounding departments in this heat. When resources are combined, things work better, and safety is the key. THe chiefs of WS and the mutual departments did an outstanding job. No one, including the homeowners were transported to the hospital. You want to make an arguement for the building issue, fine. You are trying to cloud facts with fiction. THere is not one single department on Long Island that does not have a mutual policy. Unless you were as lucky to live in your parents basement or got their house for free, like you seem to have done, most work two jobs. Just in case you don't realize or have any idea the amount of federally mandated training it takes to become and remain a firefighter, do some research. The only thing I will throw you is that the way response is Island wide, and nation wide for both Fire and Rescue, you will either have to combine departments or go all out paid. THen wait till you get the tax hit for that.

Actually, a few firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion. And 1 was brought to southside hospital. Fact is, wsfd is excellent at racing - horrible at firefighting. That's why they called in the world to put out the fire. Typical dutch!

Since you are admitting that you as a single agency cannot handle your own calls and that it is common that you do automatic mutual aid calls for help for major calls and at certain times of day, maybe you should go to the county and say we just can’t handle our areas alone, why don’t we do away with our individual department names and form Suffolk county fire department, doing so you could share equipment manpower and save tax payers a fortune?? O wait we won’t do this because we are GREEDY

i was at this fire and was on one of the mutual aid rigs that was requested to the scene. The fire dept is a brotherhood whether it be to west sayville, sayville or who ever, were always gona be there helping our fellow depts as best we can-as a brotherhood should. The job was done and we had west sayville's back and all the surrounding depts did as well. To the people making these comments why dont you join?? you seem to have all these problems figured out? scared to go into a burning fire maybe? then leave it to the real men and stop hiding behind a computer screen. We are a brotherhood and we will continue to assist our local communities whenever needed.

another dumb fuck

Nobody admitted anything. Departments have had automatic mutual aid plans in place for years. Its very easy to sit and Monday morning quarterback a call when you know nothing. Every department suffers from manpower shortages No body is immune. Everybody screams that going paid is the answer. Fire District taxes average 250 dollars a year with the exception of Gordon Heights. Unfortunately for them they have no commercial tax base. Suffolk County is facing a 140 million dollar shortfall this year. You really think consolidating vollie departments and going paid is your answer. Regardless of selling off surplus vehicles and buildings you will still have astronomical start up costs as well as salaries for firefighters supervisors etc. As well as equipment and house maintenance plus benefits and pension costs. You will be paying the same as your police tax if not more. You will see a fully paid EMS system in Suffolk in the coming years most departments are going that way if they haven't already. Are all departments perfect? no. Can waste be cut? absolutely. Suffolk and Nassau Departments are very well trained. Training has come a long way from when I started 30 years ago. A part of the manpower problem is the training hours and commitment required just to become a FF 1. You have men and women a like working 2 jobs and family obligations yet they still answer the call as best they can. Nothing is perfect but I'm proud to call myself a Suffolk County Volunteer Fireifghter for over 30 years. I am proud to have a neighboring Department like West Sayville to rely upon when the proverbial shit hits the fan. Instead of bashing on a computer go to District meetings Go to an open house. If you don't have time to volly for Fire/EMS do EMS Fire Police there is something for everybody. Get involved give us creative ideas and solutions. Telling us we suck behind a computer screen is not the answer. Sorry if my post is long. I cannot sit by and watch a neighboring Department get bashed.

Thank you for your decades of service, dedication and defense of the volunteer service. I'm all for fiscal responsibility and do feel paid would really hurt the taxpayer.
