no its not at all, where the chief works is another story(that should be addressed by the board of fire commissioners when the chief takes office). when the chief is sworn in he is provided a vehicle to respond in, i believe their should be boundaries set as to where that chief car should be,but it is his car/truck for the duration of his term. No one has said anything about all these school taxes and yet people are overly concerned about the firedept while the schools keep raising our taxes but no one addresses that issue. I think that taxpayers should start questioning schools and where all of this money goes to. The regents scores were excellent for long island schools....NOT they were horrible, some job all those teachers did...lets start asking those questions..

No coverage? Are you retarded? Newsday & News 12 have extensive coverage of school budgets every year when the votes come up. How about the articles about superintendents' salaries? Maybe you should have paid attention more in school and you would have passed those regents exams!

The Chief is on duty 24 / 7. If you had a pair of balls you would go to your local meeting and ask the same question. The guy would look real good if he pulls up in front of your house in your time of need though . Why don't the shit slingers like yourself go to your school boards and address waste and excess. Oh.. your little Johnny plays on the varsity team?? Don't wanna make waves? Screw you and all the rest of you shit stirrin assholes that don't have a clue. Piss off and drop dead. Douche Bags Each and every one of you.

Here is your simple solution.
Make the Chief Position a paid position.
Lets see. 3 Chiefs X aprox. $100K/yr = around $300K/yr.
Or, you can let them keep their day job, & continue to work 40+ hrs a week for the Fire Dept for
1) $20/mo for every year of service (Pension)
2) 8-10% tax break
3) Maybe $1500/yr in gas
You tell me, which is the better deal for the taxpayer?

The economy is brutal. People give what they can in terms of volunteering but it's just not happening like it used to. The days of 100% Volly depts are quickly coming to an end. When that happens, I don't want to hear you crybabies bitching about your taxes when they have to go up significantly to support a paid FD.
reduce already

Do tax payers a favor, go paid sell off the mansion fire houses sell off ¾ of the trucks that just sit and pay people. There is no need in times like this to have huge firehouses and 10 – 12 pieces of equipment per firehouse. Most days when a call does go out there are automatic mutual aids activated yet you greedy people keep adding equipment.

Yeah, because the real estate market is great & the "Mansion" firehouses can just be "Sold Off". No problem.
You, like most of the trolls on this site really are an idiot.
you are a waste

No Douche Bag, you're wrong.
1) I am a taxpayer, (Yes, I pay property tax).
2) I'm NOT a fan of the "Mansion" firehouses. I think they're easy targets for Assholes like you. Infact, 99% of the membership aren't fans of them either. I'll take a cozy, comfortable, little firehouse over this big musuem where nobody can touch anything.
I just don't have an AXE to grind with the vollies, perhaps you are a former member who was tossed out for shaddy shit?
The days of the over the top frat houses are long past us. It's assholes like you that keep the memories in the forefront. Do us all a favor & fuck off.

He's right, you really have no clue. Problem is that someone reading this list might actually think there was a factual basis for your post. (There clearly is not).
And I don't live in my mother's basement, and trust me, I probably pay more in taxes than you do.
