The public is sick and tired of public servants acting above the law. You know better than to be texting and driving especially with a job related van at risk. What if you killed someone? What if you/TOB were sued for damages? We the public have to bail you out with our hard earned tax dollars.
The snob attitude runs deep and runs wide and there is little to no accountability left. This is the problem - do you not understand or see it?. Rather than admitting fault and appologizing for your error - you make excuses and justify it - sounds like my 4 year old.

§ 1104. Authorized emergency vehicles. (a) The driver of an authorized
emergency vehicle, when involved in an emergency operation, may exercise
the privileges set forth in this section, but subject to the conditions
herein stated.
(b) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may:
1. Stop, stand or park irrespective of the provisions of this title;
2. Proceed past a steady red signal, a flashing red signal or a stop
sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe
operation;
3. Exceed the maximum speed limits so long as he does not endanger
life or property;
4. Disregard regulations governing directions of movement or turning
in specified directions.
(c) Except for an authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police
vehicle or bicycle, the exemptions herein granted to an authorized
emergency vehicle shall apply only when audible signals are sounded from
any said vehicle while in motion by bell, horn, siren, electronic device
or exhaust whistle as may be reasonably necessary, and when the vehicle
is equipped with at least one lighted lamp so that from any direction,
under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of five hundred feet
from such vehicle, at least one red light will be displayed and visible.
(d) An authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police, sheriff or
deputy sheriff vehicle may exceed the maximum speed limits for the
purpose of calibrating such vehicles' speedometer. Notwithstanding any
other law, rule or regulation to the contrary, a police, sheriff or
deputy sheriff bicycle operated as an authorized emergency vehicle shall
not be prohibited from using any sidewalk, highway, street or roadway
during an emergency operation.
(e) The foregoing provisions shall not relieve the driver of an
authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for
the safety of all persons, nor shall such provisions protect the driver
from the consequences of his reckless disregard for the safety of
others.
(f) Notwithstanding any other law, rule or regulation to the contrary,
an ambulance operated in the course of an emergency shall not be
prohibited from using any highway, street or roadway; provided, however,
that an authority having jurisdiction over any such highway, street or
roadway may specifically prohibit travel thereon by ambulances if such
authority shall deem such travel to be extremely hazardous and would
endanger patients being transported thereby.

We have YOU saying he was texting, but YOU have no proof. Unless of course he is one of those weirdos who texts with the phone up in the air for all to see which nobody does. just think, if you were to text while driving - you would hold the phone down so you can see the display, right? In a van nobody would ever be able to see the phone because you are up higher than cars.
You sound like a BIG, FAT F-CKING LIAR !

No, it says the operator of an emergency vehicle may not drive recklessly;ie. consciously disregarding the risk involved in an activity such as texting.

It's like the law of eminent domaine. If you live near a fire house and we want your property, you lose your house. We bulldoze it for our new garage. Ha, ha.

Who ever made up this texting story is a liar looking to mix it up. You are completely misinformed and wrong. Go back to your Community Pride spot.

I think you will hard to justify STEVE BELLONE s Town Fire marshal vehicles as emergency vehicles. They are not. And furthermore they should not be! Their response is NEVER an emergency!!!
And I know Jim HaRRington did not author that thread. His emergency response to a tavern in Huntington when he was Highway Superintendent and the subsequent total of his Crown Victoria (red lights & siren included) would most likey be brought up!
And he wasn't texting, he was eating a Whopper!

No, he's not a Commissioner anymore. That's why he came back to the Fire Marshalls. Cheat the New York Pension system, scam retire, and come back to be in charge. That's how he did it.

TOBRES you got it wrong. It wasn't a North Babylon Fireman who crashed. Most of the part time guys are from North Babylon, but the guy that crashed was from East Farmingdale. He crashed Joes look-alike-arson van

At least when I crashed the mystery female took a powder and beat it before the sector car arrived. Not to mention the million dollar bond passed to pay the insurance settlement resulting from my ,hiccup, lapse of judgment.
