An objective look Suozzi's mangement abilities/inabilities

With the election coming lets look at what Suozzi has done under the following conditions:

1.) Based on the 2000 and 2001 stock market debacle plus gulotta problems, the Leg and Suozzi's budget office was able to beat the drum for 2 tax increases totaling about 43%. We know Suiozzi only proposed one and the dem leg proposed two but the fact is Suozzi got the benefit of both i.e. 43% increase in revenues for him to spend.

2.) Suozzi then benefited from the 50 year fall in interest rates where he was able to refinance and essentially provide more cash flow to spend.

3.) Suozzi then continued to benefit from a strong recovery in sales tax in 2003, 4, and 5 plus huge increases in sales tax due to the gasoline tax increase.

All in all Tom was "lucky Tom" since he was able to claim victory
without having done anything himself except for Art's management of the Wall Street guys for the refinance.

So he was lucky, so were the taxpayers of Nassaau since it gave the resident and opportunity to work out of the Gulotta problems, albeit it with a 43% tax increase to pay.

So what did Suozzi do with his lucky political break??????

Newsday and the Long Island Press documented this travisty and failer in management.

One of the threads on this blog "I could have done it better" memorializes Suozzi's failures as a manger in the Sylver affair.

Give him 44% in increased revenues but allow him to pursue hair brained schemes with out legislative scruitiny, yields one poor manager. Lucky Tom is possibly qualified to manage a small village.

Suozzi came in to office with and experienced team headed by Hez Brown as DCE and Doreen Banks as Commissioner.

2002

Initially in 2002 Suozzi had to deal with the contined shock of the 2nd stock crash the prior fall, Oct 2001. He clamped down on Hez and seriously cut staffing from a peak of 1100 (1992) to about 200 in Parks. His mantra was do more with less as he micro managed elimination of Parks security and Maintenance (to Public Works). Just when he should have been nursing the difficult issues that result from such reduction in force he organized large scale disruptions impairing the do more with less gang.

Stuff got done under Hez's leadership with no staff. Hez had a secreatry.

2003

Austerity, no staffing but the economy is turning with potential better days ahead.

Hez Brown quits do to Suozzi's foolishness as a micro manager with a "Flavor of the month plan"-none of which drew from the strengths of the remaining staff. Brown becomes the first manager that refuses to take Suozzi's temper tantrums, his inability to deal with bad news and his inbilty to manage creative people. Suozzi got away with this in Glen Cove with only 8000 residences but now when he had to be a manager, he jumped from project to project poisioning the well has he went through managers who were not "feel good" "kiss up" managers.

Hez Brown Quits!

Suozzi brings in DCE Michael Klein, a failure in the NYC Parks system. Suozzi doesn't check his credentials, or lack there of, with Comm Stern from the NYC Parks department. Klein hires, Shomwa, Cataldo, Magwood, Levy, Mckinney --to replace Hez's secretary?? All from NYC. They become Klein's entorage as Klein runs danagerously through Parks and DPW operation carrying out and inventing Suozzi directives. Klein kisses up to Suozzi and becomes Suozzi's perfect manager.

Asst parks comissioner McFawl quits after facing down Klein but also noticing that Suozzi loved the criminal element in Klein.

2004

Banks refuses to put up with Klein's BS and criminal activity and is
moved out of Parks to start a conservancy.

Klein takes $2million assigned to Nickerson improvements and decides a skate board park, pavement and basketball courts are what is needed. This pristine Park has 15 days of busy activity a
year.

Klein brings in the Tiki Bar, and gives tons of vendor business to Butch the vice chair of the dem party.

Suozzi hires Susan Ryan from NY State as Parks Comm who is immediately involved in the Klein flunky end runs and quits after a couple of month.

Suozzi loves Klein and they caucus for hours.

Suozzi bring in another Parks Commisioner Murphy from the city. Good with tree pruning but nothing else, similar to Suozzi's pick of James C.

2005

Under Klein's direction the Cover up of illegal actions begin. Suozzi tells Newsday he won't get rid of Klein.

In the mean time, since Hez's team left, there is no such thing as administration in the parks department.

Suozzi is an incapable manager.

Klein leaves in dis grace as the DA investigation begins.

But, we are sitting here staring at a DSS situation that is a travesty.

Failed construction and planning, Improper use of Park land as a parking lot, Questionable deal with Reckson for a Mitchell field building.

Who knows whats going on with Wang but it sure shows naive management. And no management of the Leg. Things don't get done like they did in Glen Cove.

You think he knows the comptroller hired the accountant from Newsday who was in the middle of the circulation fraud - in fact - wasn't he arrested for fraud and cheating advertisers and doctoring up the books? This is the guy now working in our comptroller's office. That's as good as hiring a bankrupt Peter Sylver to run the Economic Development Agency and putting Borin and Botwin in charge of Assessments and Tax Cert after their NYC Departments of Assessors and Tax Cert just went through a major shake=up where indictments came down because of bribery and kickbacks in their assessment program.

The only thing Suozzi knows is the stupid taxpayers who voted for him in 2001 have been paying him a salary while he was laying the groundwork to run for Governor next year, and that is all he expects to do with the job if he gets the dumbasses to vote for him again in 2005. Collect money, take trips all over NYS (not for County benefit) and smile for Newsday.

And how about naming Tobak and Abrahams to the Medicaid fraud committee - one can't pick out hotel irregularities with his own personal interests and the other can't tell a home that's lived in from a home that's vacant. Some slueths Suozzi has there huh?
