Yes, the GOP candidate won, thus causing Lousy Levinson, Howard Weirdman and the Dem party to loose steam.

Guess you can't ride those special districts to the Nov elections.

Trying to win a special district election here in the Town Of Hempstead is a very difficult proposition. However of the areas that are the most winnable Atlantic Beach, Baldwin, Oceanside and the Five Towns top the list. They are winnable because ther is only one polling place in each of these districts. To think a win in No.6 as an outsider is possible is pure folly. There are 4 polling places and no BOE records. Cairo and the west end boys can have 350 goons on the street in less than 1 hour to get out whatever "votes" are needed to win.

However, the other districts are winnable. I believe a dem won in the Baldwin district several years ago, and a fellow (Langley?) in Oceanside came close about 12 or 15 years ago.

With regard to the significance of this loss, please do not read much into it. These elections are held in the middle of the night in the middle of the summer and 90% of the population are totally unaware that they exist. However, if that great county chair JJ had invested some time and effort into building the Town of Hempstead committee and hired some TOH people at the County, they might have been able to amass a winning effort.
