Please.....we're talking about the suffolk county sheriff....not the President. Get some perspective. As for James Kevins, he is a civilian in the sheriffs office. He is not a p.o. But if he wins the sheriff election, let alone the conservative nod, which is virtually impossible, he will be legally considered a Police Officer. Im not sure but it seems to me that if he retired from the state pensions system on disability as a Police Officer, that he couldnt or shouldnt be allowed to be Sheriff due to the fact that the Sheriff is legally a Police Officer and also in the retirement system. I was discussing the issue of a LOD retired cop running for the office of Sheriff in Suffolk County. I thought my comments were reasonable, not inflammatory, and not judgmental as to the character of Mr. Kevins. I simply stated in so many words that I thought the idea of someone drawing down a very generous tax free pension should not be engaging in any employment with the same government that give him the pension.

It further breaks down who is a police officer and who is only a peace officer. It further states what peace officers may carry a weapon and who may not. It also states that peace officers have a very limited right to carry.
To be recognized as a police officer in NY you need to receive the proper training and be certified by the state.

No jail guard in NYS has any power about peace officer.

De Marco is not the person who made Deps pawns that was Tisch.
Tisch removed Deps from District court to try and get in good with CO's.
Most Deps hate working OT. If you look at what De Marco really said about OT you will see he is correct. Tisch has actually caused OT to rise. He is paying between 55 and 65 OT shifts between the 7-3 and 3-11 shifts in the jail so that he can keep the Deputies out of District.
If I was De Marco I doubt I would debate this corrupt Sheriff.
One, De Marco is way out in the lead in all early polls. He should beat Kevins by a 30% margin. Two, a debate with Tisch gives him coverage that he cannot afford. I would like to know why Kevins is only running a Primary against demarco. Spota is also getting the democratic and conservative nomination as well as several judges. Tish was cross endorsed several times as a judge. Tisch also requested the democratic nomination for this election so he would not have to run a campaign. Hey buddy I may not agree with that guys name calling , but I certainly agree with his premise of facing your opponent. The money that DeMarco has come into is not just family money . You obviously hate Tisch based on your lies. However, people like you will ultimately feel the same way about anyone who takes office. Yes it will make a difference.If you read Newsday the other day Levy is quoted as saying "if the Sheriff doesnt put the Deputies he took out of District Court back,then he cant hire more C/O's."
The DSPBA is the only law enforcement union that backed Levy for Executive.Now that Demarco(DSPBA president) is running for Sheriff he asked Levy for a favor.
What people should realize is that move will cost the taxpayer more money.C/O's perform the same work in District court with nearly half the officers it takes the Deputies to do the same work.Deputies also require more training as police officers.So why pay someone with police officer status to maintain a holding pen in the basement of the courthouse.That is a job performed by correction officers in the jail,it only makes sense to have them do that job in the courthouse basement.They are sufficiently trained in handling inmates.
Hiring more C/O's will save the taxpayer money by reducing even more overtime at the county jail.The suffolk County legislature asked the Sheriff to reduce overtime in the sheriffs offfice and he is doing just that.
Demarco is trying to spend more money on the deputies he represents and he is not even the elected Sheriff.God only knows how much more he will spend if he were elected.

I still don't fully understand what each part/section of your Department does, but am already tired of hearing what you don't have. All sides should be happy you have decent jobs that pay enough to allow you to reside here in this county. Nothing is ever perfect and frankly, I'm very sure that you all are necessary to the safeguard of our citizens. Try to look at what you writing before you press that button to submit your post. There are many people on these sites who simply are not who they claim to be and come here to piss others off. I am quite sure that the last few people who called them wanna be's or jail guards were probably not whom they claim to be. I also see a distinct writing style over and over in defense of Mr. Tisch on numerous sites. Each time I see this writing the author claims to be someone else and uses different user names. This person becomes seriously irate when someone fires off a volley at Mr. Kevin James or Mr. Sullivan. I am a uniformed employee at the SCSO , I have been here for five Sheriff's terms, four Sheriff's. I mind my own business, I do my job, and this job has given me the ability to provide for my family, provide for both my wife's and my futures. I have only started a new year with a contract in place one time in all those years. The PBA members cant say that, they've been catered to as long as they have existed, and why? Because they stick together, they have a clear message to their members, and they all want one thing - MONEY AND PERKS. We, (Deps and C/o's), have been missing the boat for so many years we should just forget about it.
Every time an election is near we pick one candidate and they pick the other. The candidates USE all of us to do their bidding, they pit us against each other and we allow it. You notice I am going to great lenghts so as not to tell you which job I am on - purposely done. I wish for once we could simply agree that we would pick a candidate together, and that we would establish a fund - together that would allow for ALL donations these guys would see from us. But the only way to do that is if we combine our unions as one. It would take an extremely strong man or woman to pull this off and one who could be trusted by all of us - but who and how do we do it? Until we join the unions, stop allowing them to pit us against each other - we are destined to sit back and accept the scraps that they are offering to the few who sell their souls to get ahead. Its no puzzle how Investigators are picked. Its no puzzle how bosses get made. Why are we allowing them to continue to push agendas that serve them. Remeber what I said earlier - I have been here for five terms. I am still here, they are all gone - except Tisch who is here now and could be gone as of January. The point is this is my lifelong career, for them it is either a political stepping stone or a politicians place to hide for a few more years or to build a larger pension. Enough already. You son are the moron. Polls in Suffolk are never taken to be sold to the media. They are called "internals", Friday night 84 people considered to be likely voters because have voted in the last two primaries were contacted. Saturday 97 people were contacted. Of the 181 out come was 54 to 44 (not the 60/40 mentioned by the other guy]. The question was this simple: "In Tuesday's Conservative Primary for Sheriff who do you plan to vote for James Kevins or Vincent Demarco?

Nothing else was asked of the question. DeMarco is in big trouble if he loses this primary. It will take all his thunder and support.

Nobody said anything about ratting on a cop. But tonight Kevins has duped numerous members of the SCPD PBA into running a Kevins-athon from the union telephone banks. He has listed himself as a candidate and has Cops making calls for him under the guise that he is "actually" running for Sheriff. What Bullsh!t !

Kevins is the lacky "yes - man" for Tisch, and has been ordered by Tisch to run this in an attempt to force Demarco to spend money. Well, no money was spent except for a few hundred on a mailing. The bulk of Demarco's response to Tisch's underhanded tactics was to ask for help from his friends, and he got it big time. We went out and walked up to EVERY conservative door in Suffolk and explained what was going on. The reception we got was great, most of the people were turned off by Kevins stupid add mailer showing partial birth abortions and with a fake picture of Hillary Clinton and Demarco. Most felt the ploy was overt and very over the top, this mailing cost Kevins any chance he had. But wait till tomorrow and we'll all see for ourselves.

Answer to issue 1. It isn't a question of whether or not he can perform any job in the PD, it's a question of whether or not he can perform the last job he was assigned to before retiring. How many perps does Jim Kevins have to wrestle w/ and potentially exacerbate his medical condition as a result of his duties in the Sheriff's office? The answer is none. The same can't be said for full or even modified duty assignments in the Police Dept.

Answer to issue 2. Look up the definition of Domicile versus Residence. That will explain the kids activities, not to mention I am pretty sure that the Young Republicans don't discriminate against people who are domiciled outside of Brookhaven.

Maybe if a certain Hwy. PO had done his job and gotten the DM vehicle off of the road like he was supposed to do and didn't because he was following around his wife, Kevins might not have had that accident. He was directed to remove the car and didn't. Kevins paid for the PO's negligence with his neck. If it had been a civilian who whacked that car they would have recovered from the POs negligence, but workers comp. rules prevented that for Jimmy.
