He was in the right place at the right time.
A decent candidate running against the status quo apologist. Having Suozzi next to him on the ballot helped. If I were either of these county wide elected Dems I'd concentrate on uniting their own party (regardless of what they think and espouse it is NOT united) and building a reelection stategy.Neither of these potentially "worthy for higher office" guys is ready to move up.Dems could start with a major victory in Nov to prove '01 was no fluke. How about gaining a few judges? a few more wins in TOB? a win or 2 in TOH?
AND gaining NOT losing County Leg seats.

Geez.. Even I believe in giving the Devil his due. Suozzi is one of the most impressive campaigners that we have seen in recent years. The man has an insatiable will to power. Weitzman benefited from Suozzi's coattails and would be nowhere without Herr Suozzi. Tom Suozzi is Barry Bonds. Weitzman is Bobby Bonilla. Without Suozzi, Weitzman is a neophyte with little name recognition, and virtually no appeal.

Now that would be something - A has been party hack, former Town Councilman, on the outs with his own party, running against Suozzi. He'd make most yearn for Bruce Bent, and Tom Gulotta.

It ain't gonna happen anyhow, because if the Zman ran, they'd have to take a look at all those buildings he owns in Bellmore, and they might just find that some of his tenants shouldn't be there. No, logic will prevail, and Pat will stay under the radar screen.
