After Gulotta tried the coup against Joe Mondello over 12 years ago, Parola along with all other Republican executive committee members had to choose sides and Gulotta was ostracized but powerful enough to keep his seat on the executive committee because of his loyal North Merrick committee.

Most of the loyal executive committee members including Parola picked Joe. Bob McDonald, Maryanne O'Neil, Bob Gregory, Phil Minicozzi and others picked Gulotta. Where are they now? Who still has a job?

Tom Gulotta and Fred Parola didn't really fight, they gave each other their own sound bites and press conferences. It's kind of like professional wrestling. So if it appeared that Fred fought with Tom and stonewalled Gulotta, it never really hampered how the government, it was not personal and didn't change how things operated or how politics was bartered.
