Do you get paid a salary, medical benefits or retirement credits to be a member on any of the following Babylon Village boards
Planning Board, Architectural Review Board and Board of trustees ??
Have I missed any?
If yes, can you post the details...

The mayor is paid $15,000, trustees are paid $7,500. They all receive free medical insurance & retirement credits in the system. Any trustee or mayor who recieves medical insurance through school district may opt out and receive money from that district for not taking its medical insurance. The stipend could amount to $3-5,000. Also they receive unlimited gas at the highest price gasoline service station within 15 miles.

Forgot to mention mayor get to drive a new chevy tahoe for his private use anywhere he wants to drive including his vacation home upstate and the village residents get to pay the entire cost of gas for this vehicle which get 12 miles per gallon

I hope you did not expect the Mayor & trustees to answer that question?
to add to the poster below who answered this question: Don't forget the lifetime health insurance family plan once they are no longer Mayor/Trustees.

As a tax payer I think its a fair question
Not sure what 1955 is talking about
Something about deserving it because were moron's..
Really...
What about the board members are they paid a salary, medical benefits?
Thanks..

I will guarantee you they are getting health insurance and are in the pension system and whatever other perks they voted for themselves.
Remember, it is not automatic that just because they are "Elected Officials" they would get health insurance and a Pension.
The Babylon Village Officials at some point in time had to VOTE to Give THEMSELVES those Benefits
BUT That Also Means the Babylon Village Officials can VOTE to TAKE AWAY those Benefits (Yeah-not likely)
But TOTALLY POSSIBLE:
The Voters get together a Petition that passes Legal muster for a REFERENDUM to be Put to the PUBLIC VOTE to REMOVE the ELECTED OFFICIALS PENSION & Health Insurance (And whatever else they get- possibly car insurance/excessive car or gas allowance etc).!!!
The Elected Officials WOULD HAVE NO CHOICE but to put the Referendum up for a Public Vote.

Well Skippy the "Salt Man" makes a cool 150k and the Babylon seniors want to pay him more..
Really..
As I have previously stated the "salt man" is laughing all the way to the bank
And soon enough he'll retire and his benefit/compensation package will be a problem for future village tax payers..
Just think seniors...How many of your nieces or nephews can afford to live in Babylon Village?
Great that you all support Skippy and sing his praises but mellow out a bit and think about what your saying.
And to senior villager who can't help but heap praise upon himself... who says your group has wisdom when looking at things in our village..??
Feel free to share some of that wisdom with your next post..
Weenie..You say you work in Babylon..In Village Hall? As an elected official?
I don't expect you to work for free. I would perfer it you didn't work at all..
I don't need you to pad your retirement at my expense to live in a nice area, I already pay the county and the state for that..
I bet if you left tomorrow morning nobody would miss you or the services you provide to the village
Let me guess you are the committee head of the pool or docks...
Guess no one else in the county or state can do that job..
Better to pay you a small salary..
But be honest for a second its not the small salary its the long term benefits and pension that drives you..
And I thought it was your love of the village..

Actually, the roads are kept very nicely. We, at our library meeting, were discussing the excellent job that Charles is doing for our village. Mr. Kramer and Harriet Larsen were agreeing with us the he is "the Salt of the Community and a dedicated employee. We hope he runs for mayor when he reaches our age.
Madeline call Charles about the pothole on Thompson Ave and Charles sent a crew to not only fix the hole but they cleaned up the sand as well.
Charles is very approachable and an asset to our community, regardless of his pay. Don't forget he served as a policeman and is involved with the Fire dept. A true community service oriented young man who is deserving of a pension like we seniors. Pleas desist from picking on Charles (Skip) because it is not funny and demeaning.

And did you see the state audit? They don't know how to 'legally' run the village, but they sure know how to take care of themselves. Wouldn't it be nice for them to forgo some of the costly taxpayer provided perks (gas-guzzling suv, expensive unlimited gas cards, free and expensive health and pension benefits) and volunteer a little more? Or do they only 'care' if there are financial benny's involved? Heck, how about buying a hybrid off another municipal bid??? Yup, tax increase again, well above the raises any resident will be receiving.

Let me know if you need a copy..
A couple of excerpts
"The Board has not provided sufficient oversight of Village financial operations"
"The Village experienced declining fund balances in its general fund because of poor planning for capital projects and the Village's enterprise fund was not self-sustaining."
"Village officials did not ensure that inter-fund loans (the classic robbing Peter to pay Paul story)were fully repaid as required by General Municipal Law"
"The Board has adopted policies that require competitive bidding, but Village officials did not always follow theses policies and laws. As a result, Village officials cannot be assured thta purchases of goods and services were obtained at the lowest possible price and public monies were used in the best interest of the taxpayers"

Well, that is quite a posting directly from the audit published on the internet. However it might be nice if you posted the responses that the Village of Babylon submitted in response to the initial findings. They are in the same document that you cut and pasted. You should tell the whole story as it is a matter of public record and nobody has anything to hide. Trying to make it look one sided is very inappropriate and gives many a false impression. Many audits wherever conducted may point to policies and practices that need revision or modification and as such are useful tools for improvements. These findings, responses and resolutions lay the groundwork for future operations and are an opportunity to increase efficiency. Our senior group takes this seriously and are very confident that our elected representatives are doing a great job and will continue to do the same. It is a lot of hard work to run a community such as ours and we appreciate their efforts.

Our senior group met today in executive session with those very authorities who are examining you. For the record we all read the report. The bad part would be that if those responsible did nothing about it. That is not the case here. Oversight is a general term. No, you are not the smartest guy in town otherwise ( God Forbid ) you would be running things. What do you expect, everyone to be doing the same work? That is why periodic audits are necessary. The corrective actions will take care of the problems. You should watch how you respond to senior citizens and people you consider to be less than your equal. Things always have a way of getting equalized you know and not by anyone's hand. Our senior group still loves this village and those in charge so if you don't like it tuff.....we all fought for our country ( did you? ) and lived here for generations and are entitled to our opinion. P.S. We all adore Skippy. He is a fine young man dedicated to our community, the salt of the earth. We need more people like that who are do'ers not takers and ner' do wells. He takes such good care of our village.

Guess I'm not allowed to have an opinion. And if I do and its not the same as yours I get reported to the authorities.
Please SV do not respond. I'm tired of your simple minded views and I'm sure you'll mention Skippy and the salt of the earth crap again
But if you must respond I'm still waiting to hear if living in the village is affordable for the next generation?
Not your generation the next generation?
PS: Its tough not tuff...Tuff is a rock composed of volcanic ash..
And don't blame yourself for not being my equal; its OK

Boy this thread is getting boring.
Wanted to better understand how the village pays its elected and appointed officials and I end up with a village senior coming after me with insults and veiled threats. Kinda funny !!
So the senior group held an executive session with the proper authorities
The same authorities that are examining me

I won't blame myself for not being your equal. If I were your equal that would make me a jackass. Is the village affordable for the next generation? Depending on who you are and your earning potential yes it is. If you wish to discuss what most of your tax dollars are spent on I would say it is public education. Hey I hope you get that physical I don't want our sparring partner not feeling well. That would be kinda " tuff " LOL You are insulting too by the way but that's OK. Me and my senior friends just love to give it back to you. Skippy send his regards. Such a nice boy. Truly the salt of the earth.

Just have your wife get a job as a deputy commissioner for Suffolk County and you can live large in Babylon. What with two big taxpayer salaries coming in. Makes my eyes water. Seriously it makes me want to cry.

Boring? More like retarded.
Village officials should do the job for free
Ralph shouldn't have a car
Let's argue about a law
Skip was a cop
Skip wasn't a cop
Yes he was
No he wasn't
Salt to the Earth
You're an idiot
No you are
Waaaah
I'm gonna insult someone now
Oh yeah? Oh YEAH? I'll show you!
Stop please

Please stop attacking Skip!! I spoke to Mr. Larsen today at our senior card game and he has mimeographed all of these responses and will report the posters to the Village Board meeting. He also saved all of these posting on his Grandson's Eye Pod. You WILL be in BIG trouble soon.

Skip made believe he was a cop. Wrote lots of parking tickets and made the vill happy, but then North Babylon moved all the way south and we look ghetto.

Dear 'Stop Please',
Mimeograph? Eye Pod? BIG Trouble?
You're so far behind you could work for the village prepping bids. Oh wait, they don't bid, that would be legal. I think Ralph is need of a driver for his gus-guzzling suv, feel free to offer your services. Be forewarned, you don't have to crank it to start it. Good luck!

I wasn't attacking Skip. I was making a point about how retarded this thread has gotten.
Maybe its time for a new prescription in those frames there pops. Try reading the whole thread first. Or maybe you should try reading it on a bigger screen than the one on that "eye" pod.

I am a student at Babylon High. My father knows "THE SKIPSTER" and he was a way cool copster in his younger days. For all you Dudesters and homeys, "THE SKIPSTER" is worth every shilling, man. He is just over the top.
Peace out and Chill here.

Are you trying to correct me..
There is nothing grammatically wrong with this usage
I was trying to add a note of ironic understatement to my posting
