Now that the Ex-president Mr Vitale has resigned who will fill the spot? With only one female left on the board it would make sense to add another.
Any suggestions or nominations out there?
Thank-you Tony for your years of service to the district.

SCHOOL DISTRICT ISSUES PUBLIC SERVICE CALL
TO FILL VACANCY ON BOARD OF EDUCATION
Farmingdale Board of Education Trustee, Anthony Vitale, has announced his decision to resign from the Board of Education. Mr. Vitale has been a long-standing President of the Board and has worked tirelessly to support the students and families of Farmingdale and, as such, has set a very high standard for participation.
The Board is inviting members of the Farmingdale School District community to volunteer for consideration as applicants to fill the last year of Mr. Vitale’s term on an interim basis until elections are held in May 2006.
The members of the Board of Education will review all applications and will seek to interview the most qualified candidates during the first week of August. The determining characteristics will include evidence of recent commitment to the Farmingdale Public Schools, such as:
§ Attendance at School Board meetings
§ Participation on school district committees
§ Membership in the PTA
§ Attendance at school functions
§ Involvement in community service
§ The ability and interest in communicating and working collaboratively with the
Farmingdale community
In order to serve as a member of the Board of Education, the law requires that one must be a resident of the District for at least one year; must be a qualified voter of the district; and must be able to read and write.
No employee of the school district may be a member of the Board, except as permitted by law.
Candidates residing within the boundaries of the Farmingdale School District who satisfy these criteria and who are willing to make this contribution to the welfare of our community are invited to submit a statement that establishes evidence of these characteristics to the Board of Education in care of the Superintendent’s Office at 50 Van Cott Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735. E-mail responses may be directed to: mrogers @fpsmail.k12.ny.us.
Please have applications submitted by 9:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2005.

No Thanks!! I agree, that if at all possible, if the choice is between a QUALIFIED man and a QUALIFIED woman, we could use another woman's perspective on the Board.

Male or female it does not matter to me, I just want someone with quality practicle ideas and the ability to think independently. The entire board needs to get along and act with fiscal responsibility and make decisions based on what is best for the education of our kids. I hope the new board will take the time that is necessary and practicle in any of their decisions to carefully review and investigate ALL the solutions and ideas presented and that they keep an open mind while working together with each other as well as with the community.

So has any information leaked out as to interested parties for Mr. Vitale's Board seat? The deadline I believe is next week.
I am looking forward to the new board leadership and seeing how they manage the upcoming bond issue.
Finally, can you imagine the residents of this district accepting the decision made in Plainedge. Look at the reaction when middle school sports were to be cut!!!

Just FYI, if you do not already know this. At the reorganization meeting in July, the Board voted to NOT put the Bond Issue to a vote in September.
FARMINGDALE UNITE. THE BOND IS NECESSARY FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION
where have you been lol?! Your more than a day late and a dollar short. Read a newspaper ... go to a meeting some time. Get a little more current with whats going on for God's sake.

Just because there is no vote scheduled for September does not mean the issue is not being considered by this board. At the meetings I have attended it was obvious to me that the Bond Issue and its projects are integral to the maintenance of the buildings and to the education of our children.
Some sort of aggressive "marketing" campaign explaining the problems and costs associated if NO action is taken must be done in order to educate district residents. This type of penny wise dollar foolish thinking by not passing this Bond Issue, will almost certainly have a negative impact on the education and safety of the children and unlike the contingency budget threats will negatively impact home property values. Deteriorating school buildings, unhealthy and unsafe education environments will become an issue.
Passing the Bond Issue will improve the quality of the education environment, improve the structure and mechanicals of the building and in the long run save money especially in the area of energy savings.

It was not my intent to imply that the Bond Issue was not a necessity to the School District. I was just statting that the BOE had voted against putting it up for a vote in September.
I totally agree that the improvements are needed and if the voters in this district would pay attention to how much of an increase it would really be, I think they would be inclined to vote yes.
Well I vehemently disagree w/ this.

What is it you "vehemently" disagre with? The part that the buildings are in in need of repair? Or something else?

I hear you are giving the open Board sport to Rick M, why not give the spot to some one who does not kiss your butt.
And don't come back at me and say the board picked Rick because you had a say in it and we all know it!!! (you pushed for him)
You will be were Jane is soon (out of work)!!!!!!

If I thought for one minute that the BOE collectively did not pick the new member.........we will be in sorry shape. Furthermore the letters are not due until July 29th......are you telling me that they already know who the person is?
I know Rick M. was in the running the last time when they appointed Charlie Russo. Is Dr. G. that POWERFUL?? I don't think so. Let's wait and see who gets appointed.

FYI, according to the BOE website, the letters they have received to date are from Terence McPartland AND Kenneth Ulric. YIPPEE!! Let's put on the former Prez. of the teachers union!!

Kenneth Ulric the former Prez. of the teachers union!!
That is bull crap and McPartland? What did he get 300 votes this May?
Why are the people who go to all the Board Meeting not trying to get a seat? (this is a free ride)
Not that I don't trust you I am going to the school website to see for myself.

Do you believe me now?? Trust me, I had a feeling that he would go after a BOE position as soon as he retired. We've almost gotten all the teachers/former teachers/related to a teacher OFF the BOE. Why the hell would we want to put one on now??

Ok so Terry and Ken are public knowledge. Who is Rick M? I would have an extrememly difficult time beleiving that Mrs. Gerrold would be able to generate enough influence with the current board majority, and I am assuming that any new member must receive a majority vote from the current board?
When did the names get listed on the School site and will all names of those applying be posted BEFORE a name is announced for selection?
ilovefdale
07-25-2005, 03:15 PM
I think the names appeared a week aga.....give or take a day. I do believe that ALL the names will appear as they hopefully, get more letters. Rick M. is Morrison who is on Facilities Advisory and has done presentations for such at the BOE meetings and is also affiliated with PAL ......along with other things. I think he applied the last time when Charlie Russo was picked.

Can anyone tell me what went on at BOE meeting last night. Due to the late notice and prior committments I was unable to attend. I read through the agenda and it appeared to have been called to handle some BOCES business. Anything else? Thanks!

Basically that was it in a nutshell. There was two chances for Public Participation and no one said a word. I think there were nine members of the community in attendance.
There are now eight people who put in there appilications for the open BOE position. One of them is the person who just lost the May election by a thousand votes.......doesn't that say something??
IMHO, there are at least 3 really qualified people to choose from. Two I do not know their qualifications and the rest are a thumbs down from me. But then I do not get to vote!! :(
I think they are trying to decide by the end of next week.
Good for them. The right decision.

I forgot the woman's name that comes to the BOE meetings, but the editor of the Observer is Jaime Tomeo, 516 747-8282.
yeah lets call to cause more trouble and distract the community from REAL issues affecting the KIDS all because of politics.
