Look around....It's gonna happen!! LEt's throw it out there and see who's gonna be the first to get sucked into another FD...State and Federal budgets are crumbling and sooner than later, someone's gonna get back on the consolidate the FD bandwagon!!

Meadowmere Park, Bellrose Terrace, Floral Park Center, East Williston, Plandome....does NC really need these small, low amount of calls depts?? If you closed those 5 houses, sold off their equipment and sold the property and put it back on the tax roll...it would be in the MILLIONS.

Don't forget Oyster Bay / Atlantic Steamer and Roslyn Heights / Roslyn Rescue.

The only thing the Roslyn Depts have going for them is they have a huuuuuge district. Probably the 3rd or 4th largest in Nassau ( I think it's Syosset, Manhassett Lakeville and maybe Massapequa. Not sure.) The ones that I mentioned are all small districts. Some only a few blocks wide.

Try selling that to the folks in Manhasset/Plandome. I'm sure they'll be more than cooperative in selling off their fire protection. Easier said than done people!

Farmingdale Village & South Farmingdale should merge too.

04-08-2011, 03:55 PM
It's not as easy as it sounds to just consolidate. Some of these are villages or tiny municipalities that contract private fire companies for protection, not just fire districts. For example, Oyster Bay Fire Co and Atlantic Steamer have individual contracts with each municipal unit that they protect.

As of today ( April 12, 2011)....the entire 8th battalion (Great Neck Alert, Great Neck Vigliants, Plandome, Williston Park, East Williston, Albertson, Port Washington & Manhasset Lakeville have a total of FOUR working fires since Jan first.
Between those 8 Depts...they must have around EIGHTEEN houses that hold a combined 22 Engines, 10 ladders and God knows how many heavy rescue trucks. Plus other trucks for utility and other stuff. There HAS to be a way to combine some of these houses & equipment to save taxpayers MILLLLIONS of dollars.

The 1st Batt. has 17 fire houses in a area only a couple of miles long & wide. Does this county really need the likes of a Floral Park Centre, Bellrose Terrace, South Floral Park?? Sell the houses, their equipment and save us millions.

04-17-2011, 03:53 PM
New shiny fire toys are a FD's best friend. Wow, you should see how many toys there are. The only way anyone is going to consolidate is if they can keep their toys and if the big guys can stay and keep their perks. We're still playing who's bigger, my dad or yours. Fuggetaboughit around East Meadow - they're still playing with them like Fisher Price toys on Christmas.

Nassau County, even though it has a volunteer fire department system, has one of the highest cost per response in the country. That includes huge paid city departments. You have to wonder why this is.

Consolidation with someone overseeing the spending may be the only way to reduce costs.

What gives anybody the right to take from them? Shame on you for this thinking. It's too bad you are so jealous - it should inspire you to work harder or study more not wanting to take it away from them . Hating rich people won't get you anywhere but bitter. How sad for you.

Have the residents been informed? Has information been mailed to each residents home? Are there posters on the lawns? Or is some 2" ad buried in the back of Newsday's classifed section your idea of announcing it?

Most times these bond votes are kept secret and then 40 or 50 voters show up (99% are firemen and their families) and poof it passes 48 to 2! They can make the legal claim that the voters are in favor and that sir is BULLSHITTTTTTTTTT!!!!

Hey ASSHOLE WHO COMMENT IN THIS THREAD OR FEED.. Consolidation will mostly likely not happen in Nassau County. Nassau County is comprised with villages, districts and special fire protection. A village can never take over another village, so assholes who say south floral park should merge with floral park, ur 100 percent wrong. Fire protection cannot take over an area because they contract with the individual town. So people who say floral park centre should merge with floral park, your wrong again. the only fire department that can take over another fire department are fire districts. I doubt big district will take over protection or villages. I doubt Garden City Park, which is the biggest in the First battalion will ever take over Albertson or Mineola because its more money for them to invest to keep a firehouse open in the old district. Why fix something that issnt broken. You assholes who say lets go to a paid department, you can screw yourself bc its gonna cost more in the outcome. why would you want to fix something that issnt broken again. Think before u comment on this thread again. all you assholes who want consolidation, move out of Nassau county. I don't want my district which is pritty big to respond to calls to new districts which is formed because you want to combine district together.
