View Full Version : Why isn't anyone talking about C-6 Zoning litigation?

Why was the previous post regarding the Town Board's recent passage of Local Law allowing MULTIPLE apartments over EVERY SINGLE commercial storefront (C-6 zone) in Huntington removed from this site?

Why isn't anyone discussing the horrendous, overwhelming negative impact - TOWNWIDE - that this will have on all of us as to traffic, sewage and water, schools, parking, etc?

Doesn't anyone care that they completely ignored - for political reasons - the statutory mandates of SEQRA (requiring environmental review and assessment of such acts impacting environment)?

How long can these thugs continue to get away with this kind of arrogance, and when will you people speak out - after it's too late - and all of Huntington looks like Jericho Tpk in Syosset?

Come on people - let's get together and speak out!!!

saw Binder's press conference about it - not much press, and the media isn't doing ANYTHING to get it out in front of the public where it belongs - WHY NOT?

For those of you interested in the C-6 lawsuit against the Town of Huntington (challenging Frank and the Board's illegal amendment to the Town Code allowing multiple apartments over EACH AND EVERY every commercial space in a C-6 zone), an injunction has been granted by Judge Pitts against the Town prohibiting it from accepting, entertaining or granting any building permits under the new code.

See folks, attorneys actually can serve a useful purpose in society - and some actually do the right thing (no, it's not always about the money).

Must have more support in the town than was thought. Or the town really doesn;t care about this.

Newsday and the electronic media want apartment buildings cause it will bring in large number of people

thereby increasing demand for media and higher profits

the rich get even wealthier and the communities get

crime congestion pollution noise traffic brownouts and so on

plus little left that resembles Long Island Suburbs

If you live in Huntington, you should be extremely concerned about the local law recently passed by OUR Town Board DOUBLING the number of apartments allowed over EACH AND EVERY COMMERCIAL STORE IN THE ENTIRE TOWN - WITHOUT CONDUCTING THE REQUIRED SEQRA (environmental) Review to discern the potential negative impacts this change will have upon the Town and us as citizens (e.g., parking, traffic, sewage/water, schools and buses, etc).

It is critical that you all speak out and stand up against this blatant disregard for us, our town, and our children. Think about the negative impact of hundreds, if not thousands of new apartments sprinkled across our already congested town (Rt 110, Jericho, Larkfield Road, etc.) - with absolutely no concern for the consequences.

DON'T YOU CARE?

Town Destroys Civics

YES WE CARE!

The town government is run by officials who favor the businesses side to government.

Look what has happened all over Huntington, congestion so bad you think your in a major city or even a third world country.

Chamber of commerce has brought the civic groups to their knees.

And the town officials have helped along the way.

Deceptive Mailing on Steep Slopes

Most of you may have also found, in your mail today, a two page letter from an otherwise-unidentified group called "SOS - Slope Ordinance Solutions for Huntington."

You should, first of all, note that this was a very professional mailing, with sophisticated imprinted names and addresses, and it was sent Presorted First Class, so we are probably talking about thousands of dollars in postage alone, not counting the cost to create, print, stuff, and deliver the mailings to the various post offices serving communities in the Town of Huntington.

Who has that kind of money to spend?

Individuals like you and me? Of course not.

Or how about true historical civic associations in the Town of Huntington? No, our civics only wish they had access to money like this.

No, this is a well-financed campaign, favoring the special interests in our Town. At a Public Hearing that I attended last year, when this concept of a Steep Slope ordinance amendment was first proposed, I witnessed a gathering of the powerful interests favoring continued outrageous development in the Town of Huntington, including high-powered land use attorneys, developers, land owners, land speculators, and construction unions, and very few voices of individual citizens or civic associations.

When a second Public Hearing was held a few months ago, the developers and their friends were outgunned by individual citizens, civic associations (from all over the Town), and environmental organizations, whose voices had been absent at the hearing a year or so prior. Nobody but the rich and powerful developers knew about the topic, when it was originally raised, but word spread when the amendment was refined, and the last hearing had all of Huntington aware, and able to attend and express support for this measure.

Contrary to what this well-financed group has said in their mailing, the Proposed Steep Slope Law amendment will not harm property values in the Town of Huntington, but it will limit outrageous development in inappropriate places. Indeed, if outrageous development were allowed to continue in Huntington, that is precisely what would ruin property values for you and me.

The law will not prevent home owners from building sensible additions to their properties, but it will prevent such outrageous projects as the carve-out of the hillside on Park Avenue (just south of Dunlop Road) that sickens everyone who sees it. I understand, from comments at the last Public Hearing on this proposed amendment, that there is a similar outrageous development on Bread and Cheese Hollow Road, but I have not personally witnessed that one.

This secretive group has asked that people write to the Town Board to express opposition to the proposed Steep Slope Law. Instead of following their bidding, which would promote the interests of developers and powerful land owners in Huntington, I would urge that you instead E-mail the five members of the Town Board to indicate your support of the proposed Law.

Don't be conned by secretive or deceptive mailings.
