View Full Version : Who should I call when I have a non-emergency complaint?
Can you Help Me

Who should I call when I have a non-emergency complaint? The police commissioner, the police inspector for the 8th precinct and the POP officers of the 7th and 8th.
Have told me 911. 911 is for all police matters the operators are responsible for prioritizing and dispatching all calls even non emergency calls. When you call 911 the call is recorded date and time stamped and your caller id is noted. This becomes an official record and must be acted on. When I am told by police brass to call 911 that is what I do.
Now this is from the Nassau County Police website.---- If you have a non-emergency complaint.
Call your local police precinct, they will have someone respond and you will help by not tying up an emergency 911 operator.
So what is the right thing to do?would love to hear from all of you Thanks

You can call 911 as the above post says. 911 is not for emergencies only (in Nassau). The operator does prioritize the calls and dispatch them.
or
You can also call your local precinct if you have the number. The person who answers the phone also has a dispatch computer in front of him/her.
Either way your call will go out to a patrol officer. It might get dispatched a moment or two faster if you use 911. That is all they do. The local precinct is busy with other things as well.
just a 911 operator

The police inspector in the 8th pct used to be the inspector at 911 AND SHOULD KNOW BETTER...call the pct for non emergencies. The officer who answers the phone can give you advice that 911 is not supposed to give. For example, what are my rights with an unruly 15 year old, or how can I get rid of a tenant who is not paying rent? What time can the gardeners start working is another good one we get. The pct can chat..911 operators can't. The next call waiting could be a cardiac or a baby not breathing. If the officer who answers the phone in the pct (for your non emergency) tells you to call 911 HE IS WRONG! He can take the call and put it in the computer just like 911.

What I'd like to know is when I call the Pct. instead of 911, is my conversation recorded and my phone number captured and made part of an official record.
Or, can the officer at the pct. who takes my call sh!tcan it and later deny he ever talked to me?
call the mr sue the cops asshole posting here, hes a bit more intelligent than yourself and you two can fellate each other while discussing stupid police issues with several fingers up each others rectums

You think the phones aren't taped and numbers aren't recorded. That's what they want you to believe. BIG BROTHER is there. I know of someone who had a conversation on the phone and when on the carpet regarding a totally different topic was questioned about that particular phone conversation.
Yes, very true, good source and first hand!!!

if you believe there is a crime in progress or a person's life is at stake, then call 911. if it is a noise complaint or a watering violation, you call the code enforcement dept for that particular municipality. (hint: "watering violation" - its a violation, not a criminal act.)

I recently called the first precinct in nassau to report a disturbance on my street.
The officer who answered the Pct. telephone stated his name so fast even Superman could not discern whet he said.
When I asked him to say his name again, he again siad it so I could not understand what he said. When I asked him to spell his name for me I finally found out what his name is. This officer advised me I called the wrong Pct. and switched me to the proper Pct.
A Sgt. at the 4th Pct answered my call and said his name so fast that I could not understand him. I asked him to say his name slowly so I could unserstand it. He repeated his name and then quickly shuffled my call to a police officer.
When the 4th Pct officer picked up the phone I asked him his name and he said it so fast I could not understand him. I asked him to slowly spell his name for me so I could understand it and therefore know the name of the person who is paid to serve me.
My question is, why are cops so afraid to identify themselves? Arent they proud of themeslves and the job the perform for the community.

Why dont you clean your ears? Maybe the problem is you. My guess is the cops answer the phone 100s of times a day and dont think it is a big deal, they just say their name, normally as they already know it and assume this is going to be one of those ''my wife stole my car calls'' you on the other hand are thrilled to get on the phone with the police, and you are nervous and cant hear them speak over the pitter-patter of your cholesterol- laden, o2 starved, abused little heart.
You must not be too swift calling the 1st pct when you live in the 4th, most children can tell what pct they live in, (hint it usually is the 1st number on the car). Also you dont call the pct you call 911 to report a disturbance. Pcts are not dispatchers, you are tying up two people to do the job of one.
Additionally you need to work on your grammar and spelling as well as your hearing, superman doesnt need to be capitalised, as he isnt real nor is that his Christian name( Clark Kent). said and understand where both incorrect as well.
My grade for the cannabis consumer with the trollish police issue
C- ; lame, you already covered this many times and many ways, you cutesy names arent even funny.

If you got no other complaints than how fast someone talks when they answer the phone, you are reaching. You need to find other thigns to do with yourself.
The person isnt paid to serve you, that is a waiters job, the person is paid to enforce the various laws and ordinances, and investigate complaints, and render aid when called upon. If you understood anything about the law you'd understand that.

You seem to have taken a page out of the book of trollism and illiteracy, the question was answered already, call 911 you are screened if its a emergency, which according to most of the experts on this board, there are none, nothing ever happens and all the county or village cops out here dont do anything.
Or if its the run of the mill; I dont own a car and want a free ride to the hospital/Im a disgruntled hostile person who doesnt know how to talk to my neighbors about the leaf that landed on my lawn from their tree so I'm going to call the cops on them, type call, it will be given its rightful priority, actually not, since moist of these calls should not even be entertained, but the 911 operators dont have the power to void a call like police do
By the way reread your last sentence, very confusing do you mean you guys have no balls, you just want to sit in your cars and make the big bucks? If so you are very chatti-pattiequese in your verbiage

No the problem is whenever you give out your name to some dimlite like yourself, you know at some later date your name will be used whether at a accident," hey I know officer smith he works the desk at the 1st" cant you not make it my fault'', a traffic stop, "Hey my brother in law is officer smith who works the desk at the 1st, cant you give me a break?" Likewise a dwi or the usual domestic garbage going on at your house, hey officer smith who works the 1st desk is a great friend of mine, in fact I'm the godfather of his kids, I know I choked my wife a little, but she is alive, cant you give me a break? " You might find this incredulous, but it happens all the time, anyone who stresses getting a cops name has a agenda.
should have a 311 system like city does.

Cops are paid by the public trowl to protect and serve. SERVE. What part of that are you missing? What part of that has to do with the law? Go to law school and try to pass the bar if you want to claim you understand the law. First, you'd have to get a college degree. Is the police entry still a two year mickey mouse community college requirement?

Completely wrong usage! Please see below.
trowl
\Trowl\, n. See Troll.

Where did you matriculate? Your grammar and spelling are atrocious. People who live in glass houses and all that.
And you apparently wish to be SERVED. Good. Go to a restaurant. Police protect and serve the public good. They will not serve you - unless you would like to be served with a summons! If you actually believe that police officers are employed to serve you, it is no wonder you are disheartened. Please go to your bathroom, look directly into the mirror and state "I am an a$$hole". Repeat as necessary.

Just because you couldn't pass the physical, psychological and agility dont be mad at us you crazy fatso.
The guy who is mad about the cops saying their names too fast should also just move on. Just report your disturbance and get back to scrapping off the Kerry/Edwards sticker from your car.
If you call the Pct,.. your complaint will sit there and will be given to the cop on he street if the skirt on the desk decides to give it to(wake Up) the post cop.
CALL 911 at least there is a record of the call
