I am disapointed with her. She campaingned as if she was one of the "little people". This blatant political favor from Pete McGowans former campaign treasurer and Islip tax assessor Ron Devine to Patricia Weichbrodt will not go away. The Suffolk County District Attorney needs to investigate.

Oh stop it now, you got your panties in a bunch.
The DA's office, hopefully they have better things to do.
Its very simple, look at the original assessment, was it based on the house value being inhabitable (full plumbing, etc.)
If it was, then the correction was justified, stop throwing DA around until you know what happened.
If the whole process was flawed, and appears tainted, then refer it to the DA. The town has enough resources to research this themselves.
Lets not waste DA "investigations" on political witchhunts, because a original assessment was done incorrectly.

If this is true, it would appear that nothing was done to influence their boards decision. They just thought it was any old Fire Island homeowner and didn't realize that their VALID decision would set off a firestorm. The real problem here is why the original assessment was so out of whack.
See, you cleared everything up.

Read the original Newsday article. The board did know who he was and felt "unconfortable". The next day, teleprompter trish shows up to firm up that she " Patricia Weichbrodt" and her hubby co owned the multi million dollar beach house and wanted the break. She got it....faster then the dual doppler weather report on News 12 teleprompter.

I don't know, a house without electric or plumbing shouldn't really be taxed as complete until it is complete, was the reduction VALID?
And if the tax assessment was originally incorrect because she is in local poloitics is not entitled to a reduction?

Islip: Lack of disclosure prompts review
January 31, 2011 by JENNIFER MALONEY / jennifer.maloney@newsday.com
Islip Town is considering adding to its disclosure requirements after the husband of a town councilwoman failed to state their relationship when he appeared before the town's assessment review board - whose members the councilwoman helps appoint.
Randall Weichbrodt, who is married to Republican Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt, spoke at a May 18 grievance hearing, requesting a lower assessment on two properties: the couple's home in East Islip and their Fire Island beach house, which was under construction but had been evaluated as a finished home.
A member of the assessment review board said that the councilwoman put the panel in an "awkward position," and that Randall Weichbrodt should have stated their relationship.
"She's going to vote on whether we get appointed or not," said assessment review board member Joseph McNulty III, a Republican, who added that he did not at first recognize the councilwoman's husband. "Everyone was very uncomfortable with that."
The Weichbrodts obtained a $25,000 reduction on the beach house assessment after the town tax assessor made a correction to the roll.
Bergin Weichbrodt cited her right as a resident to grieve her assessment and said everyone on the board should have known her husband: "We have the same last name."
The councilwoman, widely known as Trish Bergin from her work as a television news anchor, was listed on the applications as Patricia Weichbrodt.
State law requires applicants appearing before town boards to disclose their relationship to any town employee - though the law does not specifically mention assessment review boards. While Islip's planning and zoning boards require applicants to submit such a disclosure form, its assessment review board does not.
"The application and the procedure to correct the misclassification did not provide for, nor did it suggest, such disclosure was necessary," Randall Weichbrodt said in a statement.
Town spokeswoman Amy Basta said the town is considering including a disclosure form in the grievance application.
Islip's protocol for a grievance posing a conflict of interest - moving it to State Supreme Court - was not used in the Weichbrodts' case because they withdrew both applications after tax assessor Ronald Devine corrected the beach house assessment.
As a town board member, Bergin Weichbrodt also casts a vote on the appointment of the tax assessor.
Devine said he attended the May 18 hearing in which the assessment review board advised Randall Weichbrodt to ask Devine for a follow-up inspection. Devine said that when the councilwoman came two days later to his office to purchase a tax map, he told her an inspector would visit her beach house that day.
Bergin Weichbrodt said she could not recall discussing the issue with Devine.
The inspector, a civil service employee, confirmed the house did not yet have electricity, water or a septic system.

Everything appears above board to me.
House was assessed as if it was livable, no electric, or plumbing would negate the original assessment.

So, after reading the article, let me ask you, if your cable bill included HBO and you didnt have HBO, what would you do? Would you call to correct the matter? Would it matter who you or your spouse was? You could probably afford the extra fee, but that isnt the point is it?

Former Survivor contestant Sean Kenniff may finally learn to keep his constantly flapping trap shut. The extremely confident neurologist from Long Island, N.Y., will be spending Valentine's Day alone after bragging about his new sweetie's sexual habits on Howard Stern's radio show.
Kenniff, who was already apparently on thin ice with his girlfriend, Long Island news reporter Trish Bergin, after publicly introducing her as "Billy Joel's ex," apparently went too far when he chatted to Stern on the air Friday. According to the New York Post, the man most desperate to extend his 15 minutes began telling Stern how he "had stolen Trish from Billy Joel."
You had to be a big shot, dintcha, Sean?
Bergin may have not minded that so much as she did a phone call from Stern, who asked her to elaborate on Kenniff's earlier discussion of their sex life. The pretty reporter wouldn't have any part in the raunchy bedroom talk and promptly hung up on Stern, the Post reports.
A few minutes after the on-air chill subsided, Bergin allegedly called the cocky doc and told him it was over. One of Bergin's friends told the Post's Page Six, "Sean is not why Trish broke up with Billy, and [Kenniff] kept hyping this thing for his 15 minutes, which are over."
Well, Kenniff may have to settle for some faux love now; the fratty physician left his practice last year and now appears as a so-called foxy doctor on the CBS soap Guiding Light.

The six-time Grammy winner and the blond Ronkonkoma native were set up by Joel's ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, after he split from artist Carolyn Beegan. But it ended sadly when Bergin spurned his marriage proposal, some say because she wanted more privacy. They briefly reconciled, but then Trish turned up at Joel's home unexpectedly and found him in bed with an unidentified woman.
Later, she hooked up with nipple-pierced neurologist Sean Kenniff, which infuriated Joel, who referred to him as a "paskudnyak" - Yiddish for a contemptible person. Some even blamed Bergin for Joel's drinking problems. "You hear, 'Trish Bergin broke Billy Joel's heart and now he's in rehab,' " Bergin told The Post in 2002. "You don't go into rehab because you have a broken heart. You go because you want to get something straightened out."
Bergin, who was also a reporter at WCBS/Ch. 2, is now wed to environmental lawyer Randy Weichbrodt. Joel wed third wife Katie Lee in 2004. Bergin told us if she runs, a top issue will be Long Island's taxes. "They are outrageously high, and I want to do something about it," she said.

Why isn't anyone interested in why the home of the ethically challenged Supe's most feared rival was assessed as "complete" when it was clearly not even close to being done? Oh right !! Ron Devine would never be pressured to do anything questionable by a loud, overbearing egomaniacal blowhard of a boss. When is "Phil my pockets" Nolan going to do something about that gray hair, and learn to play the bagpipes?

The six-time Grammy winner and the blond Ronkonkoma native were set up by Joel's ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, after he split from artist Carolyn Beegan. But it ended sadly when Bergin spurned his marriage proposal, some say because she wanted more privacy. They briefly reconciled, but then Trish turned up at Joel's home unexpectedly and found him in bed with an unidentified woman. OMG!!

Good, most of the crap on here was untruthful and slander.Perhaps those who post will comment on facts and not distort the truth,
Such as...Was the tax break 25,000...or was the assessed value reduced by 25,000
Simple question, bu too many people repeated and reveled in the "tax bill reduced by 25k"

Nolan abused his power by having the inspector go to the house and assess it as a fully completed house. Bergin called Nolan out on it. He abused his power as an elected official by telling the inspector to assess the house as completed so Bergin would have to pay more in taxes and be forced to go before the Tax Assessor Board to tell them the inspector assessed the house as finished. Everyone can see right through this one Nolan. I've known him a long time.

Newsday says Bergin saved a whole 1,900.00 Wow a thousand bucks. Give me a break. Nolan you must be kidding me. Does the DA know you tamper with the inspectors and make them pawns in your silly game? That inspector should not have been forced to do that.

Really?? I missed this part of the story in Newsday. Can you direct me to where this was reported on as fact? oh.. right... its just made up crap you are using. Everyone sees through your political games... oh and get a clue.. no one REALLY cares about Bergin and her milliondollar beach house, you should just let it go, and common Islip Folk who are not entrenched in town politics... are happy with the current administration... you should stop drinking from the water cooler of disgruntled employees. Nolan has done a good job in Islip, far better than the crooks before him.

Oh OK. That is intellegient. Let us just believe whatever anonymous posters post here, mainly because it fits into our agenda. Isn't this what YOU have been railing against this whole thread? about how the facts in the milliondollarbeachhousescandlethatwasnt were being distorted? but your willing to believe this other garbage because you LIKE it. Maybe it was you who posted it to begin with....

Basically, this started as a mud throwing contest. The facts were grievously misrepresented, claiming Bergin received a 25k tax cut, I didn't see you here correcting that misperception, nor did I see Newsday cover the story fairly.
If one side starts throwing mud, and there is no retraction, don't be surprised if a little mud comes flying back. It would be preferable if adults wrote on the issues here but that only happen occassionally.

Why should I come here and correct anything. I have nothing against her, but you have to admit it was a rookie mistake she made for very little money. Im just calling you out on your lack of integrity and consistency. Oh and you are the one who has kept this thread alive. Stop posting, and it will go away.
