"worried about Nassau" wonders why people hate "flavor of the month" DCE Mike Klein:
1.) He has continually lied to parc Nassau about his plan and his ability and his staff.
2.) He has no knowlege or ability with DPW, Parks, Golf and Museuems yet he comits millions to bull s__t projects that never work.
3.) He is totally disorganized, he ignores personnel matters including seasonals until its a crisis, i.e. Golf every year.
4.)He spends his time kissing up to Suozzi who has no semblance of reality going ref. Klein, Suozzi agrees with him and he "re-organizes so he can blame every thing of anybody but himself.
5.) He has gone through Commissioners like water i.e. Michelle McFaul, Doreen Banks, Susan Ryan and is currently in a blood war with Murphy. Murphy will beat him because he is a man. The women are ignored in this administration's mentality (even when molested like the Sylver situation).
6.) His six direct hires are real zeros and all came from NYC. He totally abuses Nassau county policy and requires no competent work from these individuals. Forget the time sheets!
7.) He (and the Kleinites) don't show up for the retirement party of OBVR cheif Ken Balcom (35 years) yet he re-organizes the area and puts his in-law Reggie Magwood incharge! An incompetent loser.
All in all people hate Klein because he is a lying piece of s__t. The Parks department use to do more with less now they do less with more!!!

Oh don't get your pink pantie in a bunch sweetied. Some people find newsday nothing but a Suozzi's personal pr firm...............so with that said for those who don't like newsday heres the 411.........Two "seasonal clerks" in the Nassau County Parks Department earned approximately $65,000 each last year and were on track to earn much more this year in jobs that routinely pay less than $12 an hour, according to payroll records.
Hours after Newsday asked for an explanation yesterday, the administration of Nassau's Democratic County Executive Thomas Suozzi fired Shomwa Shamapande, changed the employment status of Charles McKinney, and said it was referring the matter for investigation to District Attorney Denis Dillon.
Chief Deputy County Executive Anthony Cancellieri said that after Newsday requested the payroll records June 13, Nassau officials discovered "serious irregularities" in Shamapande's time sheets. Cancellieri said no irregularities were found in the time sheets of McKinney, who was immediately changed to a "part-time" employee.
County Republicans criticized Suozzi for evading civil service tests and legislative oversight in hiring the pair of political appointees.
Minority Leader Peter Schmitt (R-Massapequa) intends to hold a news conference today blasting Suozzi, who is campaigning for a second term this fall by touting his success at reducing "waste, fraud and corruption."
Jerry Laricchiuta, president-elect of the county's largest municipal union, said the salaries were "outrageous" and questioned whether the hirings were a "union busting" tactic.
"Once again, the administration is evading civil service laws and regulations overseeing contractual employees," Schmitt said.
Cancellieri contends the administration acted appropriately in hiring the two as seasonal clerks, even though such a classification generally means the employee works for only part of a year. The two were working on park projects that lasted longer than expected, he said. He defended the classification, asserting that hiring them through a contract approved by the legislature "would have cost the county double."
Shamapande, a resident of Manhattan, claimed to have often worked more than 50 hours a week for the past two years at $25 an hour helping to set park policy, according to county records. But several Parks Department employees and county officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity fearing retribution from Suozzi, said Shamapande was seldom seen on the job.
In an interview before he was fired yesterday, Shamapande told Newsday he had put in all the hours he claimed and believed he had done "outstanding work."
McKinney, also of Manhattan, was identified by county administrators as a landscape architect, who earns $65 per hour as a "seasonal clerk." McKinney, who also claimed on a resume provided by county officials to help set park policy, could not be reached for comment.
By comparison, full-time clerks who are required to pass competitive employment tests before they can be hired by Nassau, start at about $12 an hour, according to union officials. County officials acknowledged that "seasonal clerks" aren't supposed to make policy and that the two merely assisted in making policy.
County officials say Deputy County Executive Michael Klein oversees the parks department and hired Shamapande and McKinney. Both went onto the payroll in the summer of 2003. Shamapande worked as a special assistant to Klein and helped develop better communications and park policies, according to copies of his resume provided by the county. McKinney's resume describes him as "the chief planner" responsible for developing the new vision for the parks department.
Schmitt also criticized the hirings because the two workers are not Nassau residents, and noted that Shamapande is a citizen of Zambia. He asked, "What could this individual be doing in the parks department that we had to go to Zambia to get him?" He noted that the county's administrative code says employees should be county residents unless they have "exceptional qualifications" to do work that can't be performed by a county resident.
It was unclear last night why Klein had hired the two workers, but Cancellieri said they were qualified for the jobs and said he was not familiar with the code requirement pertaining to county residents.
A news database search by Newsday found that when Shamapande was a college student at the University of Massachusetts in 1995, he was quoted in wire service stories and the CBS Evening News as being a supporter of controversial black leader Louis Farrakhan. In one story, Shamapande was quoted as complaining about Jews "hitting us over the head with their suffering."
Shamapande yesterday said he had been misquoted when he was young and naive and was never a supporter of Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.
Republicans objected to having a reported Farrakhan supporter on the county payroll and Schmitt said he will raise the issue today. Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) said the Nation of Islam "is anti-Catholic, it's anti-Semitic and nobody affiliated with that organization should have any kind of appointed position in local government."
Cancellieri said the administration does not do background checks on seasonal employees and was not aware of any Farrakhan connections. "The county had no knowledge of comments he made over a decade ago," Cancellieri said.

Anonymous: So whats your point, Newsday is and has always been Suozzi personal public relations rag.
Has Newsday now turned on there poster child Tom Suozzi?
Whats Suozzi and his band of thugs doing about this scumbag J.K. who seems to be leading the charge when it comes to corrupion in NC.
Suozzi's appointees are living outside Nassau County and working here maybe a year - 3 years can get free medical insurance for their lifetime if they are 55 years old. Suozzi hired alot of older workers and they all get retroactive start dates adjusted back to when they first started working their other government jobs - like for NYC or NY county or NYS. That means, someone who lives in Queens and was hired at 53, and worked (a relative term) for Nassau County just 2 years - then he turns 55 - and NOW because of the retroactive adjustments the Comptroller's Office approved- NOW they get LIFETIME FREE HEALTH INSURANCE FROM EMPIRE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD WHICH THE NASSAU COUNTY TAXPAYERS WILL BE PAYING FOR FOR THE REST OF THE APPOINTEES LIFE - and they don't even have to live in Nassau County. Is this a sick joke or what? That benefit was suppose to compensate long standing employees who worked for decades for Nassau County (lived here) at relatively low salaries compared to the public sector pay scale and retired from their jobs here - like the State stops taking the 3% contribution from state pension participants after they paid into the system for 10 years. Suozzi's people (200 or more of them and counting) are taking advantage of a system not designed to include them. Not only that, but many of them are not only getting salaries that are competitve with the private sector - but they are getting salaries higher than anything they would qualify for IN the private sector. Suozzi must be stopped. This, evidentally, is where he's spending our tax raise - it sure isn't going toward quality of life county improvements.
