Team Suozzi Under Criminal Investigation
A Long Island Press Exclusive
Christopher Twarowski 06/17/2005 8:00 am
The Long Island Press has confirmed with the Nassau County DA’s office that a criminal investigation has been opened into a host of alleged illegal activities perpetrated by a number of Nassau County’s top officials.
The Press has also learned that a Grand Jury has been impaneled in the case.
At the heart of the investigation, says Nassau DA spokesperson Katie Grille-Robles, are allegations brought forth in a $35 million lawsuit by former county employee Georgina Morgenstern. Though filed in January 2004, news of Morgenstern and her lawsuit was first brought to the public’s attention in “The Whistleblower,” the May 26, 2005 Long Island Press cover story.
“What’s under investigation are the allegations that were contained in Mrs. Morgenstern’s lawsuit,” says Grille-Robles.
Morgenstern, who worked in the economic development department under former Deputy County Executive Peter Sylver, says she witnessed illegal acts on a daily basis: Federal funds earmarked to help the poor were used to finance campaign appearances; county workers raised campaign funds on the taxpayers’ dime; state and federal environmental laws were routinely disregarded to save time; and the administration failed to follow proper procedures to get competitive bids for county work.
Named as defendants in Morgenstern’s suit are Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, Deputy County Executive Anthony Cancellieri, Director of Planning Patricia Bourne, former Human Resources Director John Donnelly, Nassau County and Civil Service Employees Association Local 830.

Dillon called the shots

No wonder JJ and company let Dillon call the shots about the DA's race, Clerks race and TOBAY slate!

Is the BOE involved. Dennis Holland has suddenly appeared in town and has been seen in Mineola. Is he and Kevin Langberg testifying. If so this could spell trouble for Team Souzzi.
DH wouldn't trust Dillon to properly prosecute anything important to him again. Remember it was Dillon's office biggest screw-up that landded DH in politics. He trusts Stein and Suozzi more than he trusts Dillon. No special prosecutor no cooperation from DH.
That would be too bad

It would be too bad if DH didn't help. I saw his laptop and the all computer files he has on these guys and what they do at the BOE. They would be sure to go down. Thats real evidence of their criminal conduct not just someones word. They should order him to the Grand just if he he is unwilling to go.
Its No Surprise

It doesn't surprise me one bit that Local 830 of CSEA was named in the indictment. As a member of that union I am happy to say I voted her out. Jane has done everything to support Suozzi at the expense of her membership. Local 1000 in Albany take note. This woman is going to cost you in legal fees to protect yourself against her collusion. It has been documented on many levels.
don't go to dillon
06-17-2005, 07:17 PM
DH or anybody else with info does not have to worry about going to Dillon and having dillon bury the info. You can go to the Feds or to Spitzer. The feds are probably a safer bet, cause Spitzer may be nervous about getting into a political mess while he is running.
He'll have no choice

If they think he's a witness with something to say they'll get the court to order him to court to testify and if he doesn't go then they'll send the cops to go and get him.

Will they send cops tp FLA. Please you don't understand the laws in NY. If DH or KL are represented by a lawyer Dillon can not talk to them. Thats the state law is clear on that and no judge can do a thing about it.

Dennis Holland is no mover and shaker in the political landscape of Nassau. He works at the BOE like any other flunky looking to pull down a paycheck. Second legal representation flies right out the window if one is called before a Grand Jury. Geez get your facts straight.

But a Flunky who was ordered to do some highly political and non-governmental work. Just like the current case. Except what he did was much more extensive and he kept record of it all.
Also it would be hard to blindly call someone to the grand jury if you don't know what they have to say.

If he and Kevin Langberg decide to expose these clowns it will be the second scandel of this kind in a month. It would show a pattern of abuse of power thoughout the county. It is out-and-out machine politics at its worst. At least the Republicans ran their machine from Post Avenue. This administration conducts its party affairs from West Street and County Seat Drive. And it can be easily proven.

Prove it and lets get on with the show.
Dennis Holland was contacted directly by many in the party during his working days at the BOE. Many of the things he did for candidates, zone leaders and friends were done without him asking anyone's permission. He was the go to person at the board for many years. Therefore, he broke the law without any direct orders from the management there, and should be investigated as person who violated the statutes.
So, my advice to Dennis is- be careful about the can of worms you open...it may result in you doing damage more to yourself than anyone else.
I don't know which would be easier, proving that you are a criminal, or proving that you are a hypocrite.
You are so wrong it scary

Dennis was ordered not to give out anything to anyone (even members of the legislature and CE's office) without clearance from the commissioner. Thats a fact. Ian Siegal and Judy Jacobs had to go through the commissioners office for information even for county business. Nothing left the BOE unless instructed to by the commissioner or one of his top assisants. That was the orders of the current commissioner.
That was the rule. He like everyone else were following orders. And DH was the first one to say enough is enough and quit. Remember they pushed out Eric Brown and fired Arlene Silbersweig for not forcing people to do political work on county time. There was even a story in Newsday at the time that every employee at the BOW was expected to do so much political work. But guess what. Unlike the old days when Dennis and others would sign out and do it at HQ, these guys expected to do it on county time.
Dennis left plain and simple because he had the ability to do so. Whatever story they like to tell the fact remains they swore under oath in a statement to the State Labor Dept that Dennis job was not in jeoperty and his job was available for days after he left. Thats a fact. Unless they lied about that to the state also.
Unforunatly others can not do the same. They privately complain about things they are forced to do but need the job. And like the wistleblower featured in the Press article they felt no county authority would help them. I have an idea call ever BOE dem to the grand jury promise them real job protection and lets see the result.
In addition, the statutes permit releasing information to the partys respective Headquaters (or leaders). There are several provisions for this in the election law. Thats all you can accuse Dennis of doing like every BOE does for their major partys. Transmitting information to the party as instructed to by law. Perfectly legal.
As for Zone leaders, there usaully asked for information from Dennis that is not housed at the BOE. Committee and zone lists are not county property but party property. The BOE has records do not indicate what zone a committeeman lives in or the weighted vote of a district.
And voters list he used came from Prime NY not the BOE. The party only wanted candidates to have these targeted lists with a more complete list of phone numbers (the BOE only has a small amount of phone numbers). That too is party paid for property not county property.
This is all moot as Dennis has told everyone he has no intention to talk about these issues to anyone outside the party. You let some postings worry you so you attack him. Not smart.
And get your facts staight. If you knew the rules of the commissioner ordered Dennis to follow you would not have posted such bad information. And the orders were simple "Nothing leaves the BOE without my authorization." Anyone who worked around Dennis knows this fact,

Dennis spent more years just providing the requested political information directly to the candidates and zone leaders than he did having to clear requests through management. Management directed political requests to go to headquarters, and be provided by headquarters. For years, Dennis gave away the store- the new management had to put a stop to it, they didn't want Dennis to get in trouble.
OHHHH PLEZZZZEEEEEE

How is giving county information to the leader of the legislature and the county executive illegal. There was a long standing agreement at the BOE to do so when requested. They just wanted control. And your wrong. When Patton was commissioner everything was giving out through HQ. There was no politcal information given out through the Board at that time. It wasn't until these guys took over that the role changed.
Remember why Eric Brown and Arlene Silberswieg were fired. They refused to allow Dennis and others do poltical work on county time and objected to have their staff ordered to leave work and do poltical work. Thats a fact.
But if they were so concerned why did they force him to reasearch the Goosby petitions as the lawyer who objected hung out at the board. The research itself is legal. His bosses supplying it to the lawyer was not. Having the lawyer sit in the DEM counsels office and commissioners office directing the project was not.
Why did they order him to maintain a list of Afician American churches in the city. Maybe for a certain Governors race.
Why did they make him run walk list for a certain deputy county attorney running for Suffolk DA. I guess to protect him from giving out Nassau data to the CE's office or the legislators.
Why and how does he have a list of all newly hired county employees right after Suozzi took office. I guess they felt his time was better spent looking up their enrollments and ED's to strong arm them into joining the county committee than implimenting the new voter system.
Why was he ordered to run a list of all the inspectors in the 13th AD with their phone numbers before last years primary. And guess what the CE himself called the inspectors the very next day.
Why was he asked to run lists from a Carl McCall fundraising list. HHMMMM. Maybe for someone running statewide next year.
The list goes on and on.
I guess they wanted to protect him from Eric and Arlene forcing him to do BOE work. Thats why there gone. They made no secret of that fact at the time.
The fact is Dennis Holland spent his whole time under Patton and Brown doing legitimate BOE work. And when they new bosses at HQ wanted that changed they threw Eric to the wolves and toss Arlene out.
And the message they sent was clear: Do political work or be canned. Thats why they were seen walking in Hempstead during working hours. Thats why they have been seen hanging signs while on thew clock. And that why they've been seen at Suozzi HQ during the day.
Try your spin on someone else. Because everyone at the BOE knows these simple facts. And if you keep it up we can discuss in another form then this. The people you are attacking can all day long on this site. Its harmless. But if you push them far enough they may find a more public avenue to have this discussion.

Well one filed a complaint with Bonnie Garrone's and she apparently covered it. Wonder who gave her that order. He had guts but proved the county authorities will not do the right thing. With the party thowing Dillon an easy candidate we can expect the same. But there are other ways. But I will decide when not you. I think mid-October would be nice.

Untill Barbara Patton became commissioner Dennis was a percentage employee working at HQ and the BOE. Zone leaders what zone lists which is not kept at the BOE. He would go to HQ every lunch hour or would signed out. He's old time sheets will clearly show that. When Patton and DiNapoli took over a full time HQ was established and since then they have been given out by the full time HQ staff.

Not only full of it but stupid to. So you claim you have the goods but you give everything you have to Garone who got her job because her mentor is a democrat legislator - so now they have to cover and line up their witnesses and defenses - then you're gonna first start to bring this public in october when voters minds are already made up and anything coming out will look like sore apples without credibility - and close enough that newsday and the other Suozzi purchased media could keep it being 'investigated" and under wraps long enough that the election will be here and gone.

Sample of managements requests made of DH. This is a real email that can be proven to have come from a county email address. It also can be proven by interviewing inspectors which many recieved calls from the CE asking them to vote for Lavine. Keep your posting up. There's more were that came from.

thats funny. you called him yet know if he left the building or not. and also know he didn`t get approval. and know his disks from boe disks.
are u aware that in those days he used his own hardware and software because the county`s were substandard. plus he went to hq almost every day. just ask those who worked with him back then. check his time sheets on the day he called. or even check with his old boss and make sure they didn,t appove it. i know for sure dennis did not release anything without patton's or her duputys appoval.
too many holes in you story anyway.

Great Point what was given out. Yes at every exec meeting at HQ stuff was griven out. None of which belonged to the BOE. I'm honestly at a lost of what was given out illegally. I know waht gave out over the years and it all came from HQ.
Please list all the candidates I freely gave info to. For one I never even met 80% of the party's candidates. Most others requested info from HQ. The small minority that recieved stuff from me always wanted phone numbers in thier requests. Boe did not have them at that time and still only have a small amount. Those list were purchased for the candidates by the party and held at HQ. BOE did not even have that info at the time. If ou recieved that from me it came from HQ not the BOE.
Its funny that you say you called me and know I never left the BOE that day. First of all how do you I didn't leave the BOE. And if I didnt leave all day that means I worked through my lunch hour which is my time not the countys. Please give me the dates so I can have them pay me for a "no lunch" for that day.
What's even funnier is that you say you recieved info on BOE disks. Anyone who knows me back in those days knows I brought my own disks to work because it was differcult to obtain them from the county. I hope you can help be reinbursed for the money I laid out at that time.
Better yet invintory the software being used at the BOE by my friends there today. They may not know it but I paid for some of it and its registered in my name. Also check out the CD-rs in my old computers. I bought them because the countys were sub-standard.
It made my job easier not the county. This - as hard as it is to admitt- was prior to Suozzi taking office. His satff allowed us to purchases the necessary equipment. But prior I would buy my own or suffer hours of extra work. I bet if I walk in there today I can find over $1000 of my hardware and software still at the BOE.
But you accuse me of using $.50 county CDs. If I ever did I will gladly replace them if the county would replace all the equipment they stole from me.
If anyone owes anyone anything its the BOE that owes me.
As for my giving zone leaders info, all they ever want is a list of committees and the weighted vote. None of which is BOE information. It was always retrived from the party databases. And was - for the most part - given out at party HQ.
So please when ou accuse me of illregularities please give me details.
Because I can swear on the soles of my deceased family members there has never been anything released from the BOE thart wasn't appoved from one of my bosses.
If you think violated any county policy please advise me of the instance. Because I am at a loss to think of one time I released anything without a boss knowing it. If you know anything about the BOE you would know its not piossible.
So please give me the instances you speak of. Otherwise you just proved you are nothing more than a fake, phoney, and a fraud.

in BOE envelopes directly handed to me from you. You were at work all day. You are trying to figure out who I am, and you never will. You are such a hypocrite. Working the system, and now working against it. For a very long time, you never got to work before 10-10:30 am. Left for two hour lunches, and was a bully to the people who weren't on whoever's side you were supporting. Now you are on the outside, and you can't handle it. You put more time in breaking the election law than anyone else at the BOE.
This is not the Point

in BOE envelopes directly handed to me from you. You were at work all day. You are trying to figure out who I am, and you never will. You are such a hypocrite. Was it approved by the bosses. Do you know or not. If so he just followed instructions. You do that or be fired. Its still going today. Anyway this misses the point.
The issue are running campaigns out of the BOE. That never occured prior to this administration. We're talking about using BOE staff to work 100's of man hours reasearching peitions for a candidate. We're talking about ordering employees out during the day to hang signs. We talking about fundraising at the BOE. We're talking about making lists for a governors race on county time. We're talking about ordering the staff out to walk on election while still having them signed in.
This stuff never occured in the past.
Whats the story with the old Civil Service Bldg on Old Country Road, Mineola? I see Souzzis pictures hanging up in the window. Is that his new campaign headquarters? Why did he move Civil Service to that dump in Hempstead and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on renovations? Was it just so Souzzi could see his picture hanging up on Old Country Rd when he drives by.

Looks like the Souzz is going for the GQ vote. Maybe he will do Abercrombie & Fitch underwear commercials after his stint as CE.
Sounds Like others

This sounds just like the county attorney's office - especially those "satellight" offices. I think it's just what Suozzi allows from the top down. The higher you are, the more you make, the more they all have to look the other way and the ones who don't play - get called names and accused of emotional instability then fired or forced out. Revenge will be theirs - and jail will be yours - especially for the supervisors who signed off on these things - especially the ones that filled them in themselfs and even signed others names to them. This is county wide. A county wide problem - it will all be made public and the people will learn the true meaning of fraud and corruption.
