How short sighted are you? DSo you know what a contingency budget does to the quality of education in a district. Your taxes will go up anyway, probably one per-centage point less than they would have and it is estimated that it will take at least six years for the value of your house to recover. GROW UP!

06-11-2005, 11:29 PM
we need to make a point and wake up the districts. We can not keep getting hit with these huge tax increases that are going up 3-4 time the rate of inflation every Year over the last 4 years. Most people I know are makeing almost the same amount of money as they were 4 years ago not 20-50 percent more.

You apparently don't live around here! Some of the budgets are going up more than you state, when the school districts stop thinking that they can get what they want by threatening the public with "contingency" budgets, well then you might see something thats more reasonable. Teachers get their raise regardless of wether or not the buget is passed------we should all be that lucky.

Threat? It is not a threat. My district has mailed, posted and advertised the things that will be cut. What threat?
The staff, unlike the children, have these crazy things called "Collective bargaining agreements". They also have this concept for educators called "Tenure". The fact is, with very few exceptions, the employees of a district are not worried about their jobs next week. So where do the boards go? To the programs that effect us the most. The stuff that effects kids. Voting NO does not send a message. It is a futile gesture that will undermine the education your kids get.

THERE IS NO MESSAGE

It may stink that thats how things are, but to sit silently for a year and then wreck the system you watched go by until two votes came your way is equally bad. Pass the damn budget and then work to change the system. Vote out the boards, get the towns to change zoning enforcement, pay attention to union negotiations.

When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sits out too long
You must whip it
When something's going wrong
You must whip it

now whip it
into shape
shape it up
get straight
go forward
move ahead
try to detect it
it's not too late
to whip it
whip it good

I don't own a home, so if the prices and taxes come down, I for one will be very happy. Instead of moving out of state I might be able to stay.

Thats a good hint for out there waiting to be able to buy a house, especially if you are single or have no children.

Change will happen during negotiations. But think before you open your mouth Would you be willing to or have you done the following..... Did you give back anything while you were working "within a contract?" Do you work a day free because your employer was going through a rough time? Do you turn down overtime if it is offered to you? Would you give up salary to keep jobs? If you are a civil servant do you work a week for nothing because of government deficits? If you do. let me call the vatican because you should qualify for sainthood!! In my district, the teachers have given back they have not spoken about it publicly but maybe they should. People are quick enough to point fingers at teacher all the time. Maybe they should look in their own background!!

06-19-2005, 12:44 PM
teacher unions are blood suckers they  will eat there young

still have to pay
06-19-2005, 08:24 PM
How foolish to deprive kids of the progams and services they deserve b/c you don't like the politics of the teachers union? Well, guess what? When your district's revote goes down, you still have to pay these teachers in full and their benefits and retirement. So get off your asses and let your voice be heard about teacher compensation during negotiations. For now, get off your asses and support these budgets!

I agree to pass the budget but you're misinformed about teachers not being worried. Tenure means nothing but "the right to due process." Teachers are in fact losing their jobs because it goes by seniority. Tenure does not help these teachers regardless.

That is an utter lie - tachers lose jobs in reverse order of seniority
