In his column today Newsday's leading Suozzi advacate Larry Levy
for the first time published an even handed slightly critical appraisal
of Tom Suozzi's statewide aspirations.Levy called our county exec
a minor leegue player when compared to Attorney General Eliot
Spitzer. This was a subtle reminder that TS has a long way to grow
and accomplish before he will be seriously considered as a statewide
political force.

Actually, the really huge Suozzi booster at Newsday is Klurfeld, the editorial page editor. His very tight relationship with Suozzi has pissed off some of the beat writers at the paper. It's no coincidence that when a balanced piece criticizing Suozzi is printed, it's in a column out of Kurfeld's control (Levy). When negative editorials about Suozzi are printed, it's usually when Klurfeld is on vacation.

Someone at Newsday comes back from vacation and we get the Altman article. Methinks there is a split at Noozdae on Herr Suozzi.

DT:

The reason the woman was run out of town is not because the article she wrote, but for some of the activty afterward.

What happened is that Newsday wrote a very critical article regarding special education. Larry Levy, whose own child attends special education took exception to the article and requested the opportunity to write a responding article, which he did.

Some of the original reporters were offended by the article he wrote and there were some problems. Larry Levy had a severed pig's head put on his desk, and a certain female reporter was moved from Newsday.

Anyway, that's the story I heard.
