Now that the TOH has closed down the Oceanside Motel, residents of W. Hempstead are screaming "What about us!!" The Courtesy Hotel is a den of illegal activity and is responsible for the vast majority of reported crimes in W. Hempstead. Residents have been trying get the TOH to close the place down for over 10 years to no avail.

Harvey Levinson, smelling blood, held a press conference the other day to chastise Kate Murray and others for failing to move as quickly on the Courtesy as they did with the Oceanside. If Levinson can make some solid and believable campaign promise to get the place closed down more quickly, he will lock up every vote in W. Hempstead. This issue will cost Murray dearly with voters there.

I would not disregard Levinson's campaign run so quickly. He has been making the rounds in Nassau County, attending civic association meetings and the like. His message is resonating with many people and he is putting ideas out on the table (e.g. the income tax instead of a property tax) and generating debate. You never hear of any ideas coming out of Murray's office.

I don't think anyone that lives in the Town of Hempstead would disagree with the statement that the TOH government is in serious need of reform. Levinson recognizes this and developing policy ideas to address a number of these issues. You don't get the feeling from Kate Murray that the TOH is in need of serious reform. There is no sense of urgency or concern from her.

Don't be surprised if Levinson beats Murray. Who cares if Suozzi needs the TOH approval for his Wang Town Deal or if Suozzi and Levinson are connected at the hip? If Levinson wins, it will be a huge blow to the Nassau Republicans.

The Democrats are fighting from a position of strength while the Republicans are fighting to hang on to the few remaining pieces they have. Republicans may not like to hear that, but it's true.

Murray and company are too busy trying to figure out how to turn this into a photo op and another taxpayer paid for campaign mailing.

Joe telling his crew... "get some flags, a couple of vets and we'll bus some seniors in.. have Kate take a picture with them in front of the motel saying she started a new task force to clean up Hempstead."

Murray is all talk and no action. The fact that she's paying attention to this is because she knows she is in trouble against Levinson and that she is actually going to have to compete for the Supervisor's seat this year.
