Spota The Real Thing

In todays Newsday:
Spota's probe has extended into Islip and Huntington and prosecutors say they expect to file more charges soon.
If the investigation shifts the balance of power, Spota said it's not intentional -- and it doesn't really matter to him.
"Remember this," he said. "If there is a change in the political landscape in a particular municipality as a result of this investigation, the other party better start toeing the line."

Spota is doing things the way a real, honest to gosh prosecutor should. You follow the facts and the law and let the chips fall where they may.
You don't abuse the awesome power of your office to try to manipulate elections by threatening to investigate people who have done nothing criminal or by refusing to act on complaints recieved by your office. You don't decide the outcome first and then try to back in the facts to reach that pre-determined result. The people see through that. It didn't work for Catterson, it will not continue to work for Dillon

Good post. Most citizens want a fair and extensive look at how some things don't add up. To go after someone on a fishing expedition is wrong. But at the same time if there are many many complaints coming from citizens on how government is not working properly or fairly it should be looked into. Average citizens have an almost impossible task in finding out information that can lead to wrong doing and when they do it's usually overlooked by government and media alike. A good prosecutor knows that where there is smoke there usually is a fire. But who started that fire and where is it, is what we want to know.
