View Full Version : Reassessment in the City of Glen Cove.

Did everyone get the letter today from the City that now shows what they value our homes at? (They, refers to the treacherous misinformed hooligans who are now in power in the City. I like to refer to them as the magnificent 7) How much is enough people, it is time to vote these people out. Please if you did not read the letter doubling what the City thinks your house is worth read or dig it out of the trash can and tell all your neighbors about this massive fraud being perpetrated on us by that bunch. Also is not it ghoulish (Maryanne’s face in the morning) to mail something out like this in the Saturday mail hoping that it would not be read. Forget about those ignoramuses called the Glen Cove Republican Committee. They could not fight their way out of a paper bag. We must as a City take the current administration to task and ask why?

Nassau County houses have appreciated in value; just ask people trying to buy a house the last few years. Reassessment spreads the tax burden around so those who own wealthier homes pay more than those than own cheaper homes. If you don't like it, I have 3 options : (1) challenge your assessment using the data the City has used to support its findings or (2) move into a smaller house in Glen Cove or (3) move out of Nassau County. Don't worry, there are hundreds of people that will buy your home for top dollar. This is the "housing bubble" Alan Greenspan has testified about.

In response to the last posting.
So what you are saying that if I just can’t afford living in Glen Cove, I must move and change my lifestyle because inept people run city government. Reassessment does not spread the tax base, it only hurts those who have worked hard and saved in an attempt to payoff their mortgage only to find out what if any savings they might have on their mortgage has been taken back by the ever increasing taxes imposed on us.
I have been a lifelong resident and I want to stay in the house that I raised my children in and lived with my wife. The only problem I have with the first posting was the personal attack on the Mayor, as to her governing there are plenty of issues that can be raised.
1. Where is this waterfront? Today is a beautiful day, take a ride and try to find the hotels and shops located on the beautiful vista of the Glen Cove creek. Be careful of the radiation and waste from the City dump.
2. The embezzlement that is ongoing in City Hall how come no more talk on this subject.
3. Gang violence, have you been down to 7-11 at night. No more talk about the murder that occurred.
4. The City is in a worse crisis than Tom Gullotta had the County in.
5. Just the appearance of the City is down form the Streets to the parks and so forth.
Finally, I do not want to move or buy a smaller house or care whatever Alan Greenspan says. Good Government Starts at the local level. We have to expect more from the Mayor and the City Council Members than standing next to Tom Suozzi for a picture.
Please advise all citizens of Glen Cove on the letter mailed out this Saturday on the reassessment imposed upon all the land owners.

That's what you get when you allow professional thugs to run your community. The years of empty promises are over. Stop them b4 our homes value will be nil. God, may the truth be told.

I have no tears or sympathy for anyone who lives in Glen cove. you elected and re-elected Tom Suozzi and never voiced your public criticism of him when he was running in 2003 or in the years after. You thought he would bring wealth back to your city? HA! You are just an image in his political rear view mirror; his land deal for a palatial home stinks to high heaven; yet Glen covians stayed silent. H talked big, painted great word pictures, spent your money and now the bill is due. Suozzi reassessed Glen Cove as Mayor in in 1999; nobody criicized him for that when he ran in 2003. Nobody guarantees a liftime in Nassau County if you cant pay the mortgage or the taxes. This is why tousands of young famlies have move in the past few years. Seniors who have seen their homes explode in value 10 or 15 times what they bought for it and whose assessments stayed the same for 40 years forced these young famlies away to find housing that they could afford. Now that current values reflect current assessments they cry out--we want our low assessments and unfairly low taxes even if it forces younger famlies in my neighborhood to pay more than they should. They will have no sympathy from me.

Maryann and her city council will be re-elected not because they have been doing the city’s business but instead just because they are democrats and tom is at the top of the ticket. Anyone with any reason can not point to anything of significance that Maryann or the council has done except rehash what tom has said his has allegedly done.

All his promises were just lies. The people of Glen Cove are afraid that they will be targeted by Suozzi and his band of thugs. Residents and business owners are trapped in his political mafia. BAND TOGETHER PEOPLE. STOP HIM IN HIS TRACKS BEFORE VERY TOWN IN NASSAU LOOKS LIKE DOWNTOWN GLEN COVE, VACANT AND GANG INFESTED. DUMP SUOZZI IN 2005. :x

I am a long-time city resident and I also got my reassessment letter last week. My house which is almost 45 years old went up as well and the neighborhood saw no detectable change, improvement or decline.
This should be a continuing wake-up call for city residents of the ineptness of the Holzkamp administration. However, she will win re-election for several reasons:
1.) Tom Suozzi is on the ballot and will win like gangbusters in Glen Cove;
2.) the inability of Republicans to put a slate together;
3.) Glen Covers just do not seem to care despite the moral decay of the town.
So without any household changes, it will be the same old group patrolling city hall and the city's decline is expected to continue.

A massive tax increase has been imposed on us by the dark side that now controls City Hall. We must wake up, where the beef Mary Anne? Why do you need to increase taxes with all of the new construction in Glen Cove. It just does not add up. Also what is happening with Liz Prentiss.
shocked? surprised? two things that for sure dont cross my mind around here ... Suozzi Puppets out this election ... come on people we can no longer live like this

Its not that the dems are so strong. The fact of the matter is that the Glen Cove Reps with who ever is their leader are such a joke. Think Steve, Dave, John, Tippy and the cast of characters that are just as dumb are the opposition.

The magic formula for doing away with this great nation isn't magic at all.In fact, this eight-step process is as easy as apple pie.
Take it from the former Governor of Colorado, Dick Lamm, who revealed the "steps" at an immigration-overpopulation conference in Washington D.C., attended by some of America's deepest thinkers.
Before Lamm, however, the first speaker, a brilliant professor named Victor Hansen Davis, gave his talk. He discussed his new book "Mexifornia" which told how immigrants, both legal and illegal, were destroying the entire state of California. He said this wave of immigrants would eventually march across the country until it destroyed all aspects of The American Dream.
Then it was Gov. Lamm's turn. He stood up, walked quietly to the lectern and began to speak. What he said stunned the audience. They sat absolutely spellbound as the ex-governor casually said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy it. It is not hard to do. If you know how to go about it."
Then, Lamm went on to reveal the procedure that he said was certain to do the trick. He spelled out the eight simple steps.
"First," Lamm said, "I would turn America into a multi-lingual and multi-cultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures.
"Second, I would encourage immigrants to maintain their culture and make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal, and that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority.
"Third, I would celebrate diversity rather than unity. I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language. It is important that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America, reinforcing their differences, rather than emphasizing their similarities.
"Fourth, I would make the fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass. They would be unassimilated,
uneducated, and antagonistic to our general population.
"Fifth, I would get big foundations and businesses to give these efforts lots of money. I would establish a cult of 'Victimology' by starting a grievance industry blaming all minority failures on the majority population.
"Sixth, to bring down America, I would produce dual citizenships and promote divided loyalties. Celebrate diversity over unity. Stress differences rather than likenesses. Greece had a common language and
literature and all worshipped the same God, but Greece fell to the Persians. E. Pluribus U num - from many, one.If I put emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'unum' I can balkanize America as surely as I'm standing here.
"Seventh, I would place all subject matter off limits---make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of diversity. I would make it impossible to enforce immigration laws. I would have a mantra, It would be
this: because immigration has been good for America in the past, it must therefore always be good.
"Last, I would censor Professor Victor Davis's book, "Mexifornia," It exposes the dangerous plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."
When Gov. Lamm finished speaking he walked quietly back to his seat. There was no applause. There was no whispering or murmuring. The room was still, stunned, shocked. But it was evident that everybody in that room
recognized that what Lamm had just said was quietly, darkly and progressively happening across the United States today.
More than 100 languages are tearing apart our education system and national cohesiveness. Barbaric cultures practice strange pagan rituals.American
jobs are vanishing. Corporations are creating a Third World America. We have ten million illegal aliens and growing. George Orwell's book "1984" is coming fast to this nation.
Lamm contends that if we don't get this immigration monster stopped soon it will surely destroy The American Dream

To blame certain people because of the Republicans' inability to find a competent candidate is wrong and totally off base.
Steve Gonzalez, Dave Zatlin and John Maccarone do not, I repeat, do not run the party appartus in GC. None of the three are the leader and have never been the leader in GC.
Primarily, the blame lies with the former longtime leader, Joe Reilly, who wore out his welcome too long and should have retired years past, and the current leader, Tip Henderson, who should have begun recruiting candidates months ago.
Another problem is that Tom Suozzi is on the ballot in GC this year, and competent candidates do not want to be sacrificial lambs. So please, let's place the blame square where it should be!

You said it. These idiots got what they deserve. Now in November let's see if they've learned their lesson yet and can try and prevent the rest of Nassau County from experiencing the same problems. How stupid is the average Nassau County voter? I guess we'll find that out soon enough.

I just wonder -
1) if the gangs that live behind Glen Street train station were issued a re-assement letter. Aferall the City of Glen Cove allows them to live there so do they pay taxes?? They are movin up like the Jeffersons and now have cushy lounge chairs and tables to drink the Henikens at 7am in the AM.
2) I'd love to see the assesment letters for the city officals who get speedbumps built on their block... $180K of my tax dollars for those speed bumps. Shall the cityy build a moat for the Queen's castle?
3) How those tools overestimated the houses in Glen Cove. With this city's Poor schools, gangs, ghetto like conditions all over city they have some nerve to actually think houses can sell for what they are writing,
4) Do the chroany landlords who turn their single family homes into multi-family dwellings -- will their properties be assessed to refelect this?
Some nerve to raise the taxes for the working people of this city while you ran this city into one big slum.
