No governmental agency makes money. Drunk-drivers bleed the tax base lots more than what penalties draw in. Half of your insurance bill go to DWI related offenses.

The only people who make money off of drunk drivers are the criminal lawyers who pony up to the jailcell with their business card in hand. Right after that is the alcohol rehab/out patient facilities who pretend their doing something when in fact they're just milking the system when the lawyer advises the drunk to go for treatment.

As we've unfortunately seen in the last few days with the 2 horrific DWI wrong-way head-on auto crashes on the Northern State Pkwy., in which an off-duty NYC Police Officer was slaughtered, followed the next day by the one on the LIE at exit 34 that tied up traffic for half a day, spilling over into Queens, pathetic Long Island is the DWI Capital of America.
These selfish, worthless, scummer alcoholic DWI drivers have no regard for others and the pain, carnage, life-long grief and tragedy they inflict. And Long Island is chock full of them. Disgusting.

The state and county make money on the tickets.
County makes money on fines, car impounds, and auctions.
The rest is greedy lawyers.

Goodman failed to take the final steps to obtain forefeiture of the cars of DWI drivers. Hence, no money made through the County Attorney at auction. And Ciampoli, instead of fixing the system, completely disbanded the bureau. So, now there is no threat of losing your car in Nassau unless you commit a felony in the process of a DWI.
