Why can't I ever get a straight answer on this board. Everyone thinks they are Flip Wilson.

Here are 10 !

Steve Levy, Pete McGowan, Rich Schaeffer, Pat Curcio, Frank McKay, Patty Acampora, Harry Withers, Steve Israel, Joe Caracappa, Joe Sawicki. These are 10 of the top players. There are a few behind the scene players that I will not mention because if they wanted to be out front they already would be!

Laufer? What has she done besides call Schaffer 50x a day? I think you need originality to be a leader. How about Steve Irsrael? He's easily Suffolk's most famous pol outside Suffolk.

Look reality called Connecticut and upstate new york got the butts handed to them when it came to base closings. However, Long Island got away pretty nice. King doesn't go for the smaller ticket items like steve israel. Meaning Israel will get 7 million in funds and direct it 10 different ways Like a million to gang violence, $50,000 to after school education all sorts of things. So he believes in spreading the wealth. However, King will get like 10 million for one major project like the Penn station to grand central station line so long islanders can get to work quicker. Peter King has juice and he does represent both Nassau and Suffolk.

Exactly right, most of the power is not in the hands of the face men and women, its in the hands of who has access to these people. I know a guy in here in my town. You go to him if you need to get a hold of any of these types, its guys like him that are the real power brokers.

Party of One

What about Nick LaMorte of CSEA? To say that he isn't a major political player behind the scenes is to be foolish. The Working Families Party in Suffolk is in disarray but Nick still has a lot of punch and he is no dope. He knows who everybody is and he knows how to play the game. Major oversight to forget him.

mcgowan will destroy bodkin and his team.

the force of McGowen

The problem Bodkin is gonna have is finding people. First off he never really attended any Republican events and never really did alot of favors so nobody owes him and nobody cares. If Brian F. would have fought for his seat their would have been hell and civil war cause everyone owed Brian a favor. It's like Al tisch running for Sherriff. He kept saying he wanted to take the politics out of the sherriffs dept. He made all the politicians give back their pretty badges of honary and then guess what now he is fighting for his career and everyone is going...um you want nothing to do with politics and now politicians want nothing to do with you shine your pretty badge. Payback isn't always a bitc- it can sometimes be your best friend

Main Street Republicans
06-10-2005, 01:43 AM
I am still not sure who the driver is behind this group but whoever it is should definitely be on this list. The Main Street Republicans have the Town of Huntington in a political uproar.

Fundraising in politics is always impressive. However, thier most impressive feat to date is the ability to ELIMINATE the fundraining of their opponents. Allan Binder and Tony Rettaliatta are veteran politicians who cannot raise a penny in Huntington.

You've learned from petrone and christiensen well my sons. What this town dont need is the East Northport chamber of commerce running the town along with weber and associates

Top of the list are three county wide elected officials: Tom Spota, Steve Levy and Joe Sawiki.
Next would be the party bosses: Rich Schaffer, Marsha laufer ( watch for big gains in Brookaven), Pat Curcio and Patty Acompora.
The final three for me includes two town supervisors Pete Mcgowan and John Lavalle. Rounding out the list would be Congressman Steve Israel.

I am not an expert on Suffolk politics, but from what I see Tom Spota is by far the most important player in Suffolk politics. The shame of it all is Spota is not supposed to be political, or considered as political. Whether he is poltical or not is for you to consider. I think he is.

He has Suffolk County officials running for their lives. Not only is he in control of corruption investigations, he is in control of the Newsday circulation scandal. It is my opinion that even Newsday would be fearful of writing any story critical of Spota as he could open, widen, or whatever he wants to do in that scandal. And it is a scandal that seems to beg for a criminal investigation. Is there one? Only Spota knows, I guess. My guess is that what Newsday did by defrauding their advertisers will be pushed off as a civil matter rather than a criminal matter.

Have you noticed every article in Newsday for the past year or more has seemed to be like Spota has taken out a front page ad on the work of his office? Newsday is now his personal publicity paper.

To give the district attorney the benefit of the doubt maybe his work is non political and he is now cleaning up Suffolk and deserves the recognition of the public. On the other hand most can agree that Newsday is a newspaper that has a decided left bent and one would expect a hard charging DA would be subject of some critical stories from such a newspaper. Have you seen any such stories?

No doubt about it, Tom Spota is #1 . He has probably made Brookhaven's Lavelle step out of the race and he has made others run for cover even if there is the slightest hint they have comprimised their office.

I think Spota is the most powerful and efficient political figure. Also Steve Israel, Caracappa, Levy, McGowan, Acampora, Rich Schaefer.

Nice lesson

Sally Sunshine - have your kid do her own research. What kind of lesson is she learning if she is just taking the opinion of anonymous blog writers? She isn't even doing that herself, you handled that. She can use the internet to find many valuable resources to do her homework. Use actual data and facts instead of opinion of 3rd party people.
