No news is...
For politicians, the best attention is free attention and the best free attention is news coverage. That was the thinking behind one news conference last week where Donald Clavin, candidate for Nassau comptroller, blamed incumbent Howard Weitzman for wasting money by keeping his office lights on. Clavin, the challenger, needs to get his face out there, So, here it is (above, left). But he's also a bright guy who can - and should - do more to tell residents how he would do the job better.
... good news
Weitzman, meanwhile, called a news conference of his own, saying he would subpoena records from the Syosset water district as part of his investigation of special taxing districts. He's a Democrat, the district is run by Republicans. Politics? No doubt. But such districts deserve scrutiny, nonetheless.
