On another subject, according to the board president, Assistant Superintendent for Business James Marran was reassigned to his home...what exactly is he working on from home? Do you think it's the revised budget which will include enough money to pay for the consultant who is replacing him in the office in addition to his own salary?

Duh:

Just adding up all the money that this board is spending...

consultant's salary ($400+? per day) plus Marran's;
lawsuits galore;
generous new contracts for unions in a time when money is tight;
$$ incentives for administrators not to leave the district for better pastures;
cost of the budget revote; why not do it right the first time?
the cost of the so-called search for a new superintendent which was a farse because they already had Mostow;
the sweet deal this superintendent received after being asked to leave 4 previous districts;
will the scandal and lawsuits facing the district have an effect on the credit rating for district borrowing?

I'm sure there's a lot more that could be added to this...it's a shame that programs or teachers have to be cut when money is tight.

why are these contracts such a point of anger.....they did not break the bank....people do deserve raises from time to time dont they?????

Fair 13,

I agree people do deserve raises. But when times are tough raises should not be as high especially in the first year of the contract. Workers do not want to give back health benefits, so agree to a lower percentage increase. Peggy and friends paid for a so called search for superintendent, claimed there weren't many candidates. Hired this arrogant interim who was asked to leave other districts, pay him an exorbitant amount of money and then give him a 5 year contract. Why not a yearly contract? How good can this guy be if he was asked to leave other districts? We're stuck with him now or will have to pay dearly to get rid of him. They paid two administrators extra money so they wouldn't leave the district, they got rid of Marran and his assistant and hired two more people to replace them at $600 a day and $400 a day (total $5,000 a week just for these 2), plus paying Marran's salary for sitting home. How much is all this litigation costing the district? How many lawsuits are pending? What is all this doing to Patchogue's reputation? Our children suffer because Mostow threatens to eliminate programs. Kindergarten, after-school clubs, sports, AP programs, late buses. Kids need to be involved. How can they be if programs are eliminated? Cuts have to be made elsewhere and not at our children's expense. I am struggling to live in this district and on Long Island just as you are. I expect that the people who were elected to protect the fiscal health of my district and the educational opportunities for my children do just that. They must be more vigilent, not vindictive.
