If that is what you think, you go right ahead with your plans. Schaffer has more control of that aspect of ballot access than most would ever think. All it will do is serve to smoke out his opponents within the party...and place a target on their heads. He is still a very young man as far as political leaders go, his turn will always come around. Shaffer is very patient.
If Bellone has been anointed then it will become obvious to all soon enough.
Remember Shaffer has made a career out of playing David to many Goliaths.
His own first election was defeating the next defacto Presiding Officer and republican party favorite Gerard Glass. Follow that with the election of long shot ultra partisan Sondra Bachety. Move on to swiping town hall in Babylon from a popular incumbent by orchestrating a judicial escape. Then came Catterson's defeat and a switching to back Levy for CE. All considered "not doable" by career politicians. All done by Shaffer.
Defeating Levy. The monster he helped create. Right up Shaffer's alley - he's been bored could probably use the challenge. And he will win - again.
