As a union member of course I am opposed on giving anything back. It really isn't right that the county keeps looking to us to fill thier shortfalls. The public needs to know that all unions have already made consessions. Here's what I would suggest to Mangano: You already took from all of us. After you've repaid all that we defered, we'll see you in 2015. Then we'll talk again about negotiations. I would tell him: These are new times we are living in, it's about time you cut most of the political patronage jobs in the county. It can't be a sweethart deal for everyone anymore. I would go on to say, unfortunately, you may have to reduce the size of county government. Some union members will lose thier jobs. Also, I think at this point you have no choice but to raise taxes. You need to start thinking about taking alittle bit from everyone, instead of just targeting county worker's alone. Eliminate redundancy, sell off useless property, figure out a way to create revenue for the county. If you meet all that criteria, you may just dig us out of the deep hole we're in. This is your opportunity to be a cutting edge politcian. You probably won't get Reelected if you cut political patronage jobs, target the unions, and raise taxes. It's a no win situation for you, your back is up against the wall. I feel bad for you, but we need someone with balls to go down swinging. That someone could be you! If you don't act soon, NIFA will take your place. Then, you might as well start packing up your office and find out which direction Suozzi went!

Agree.
Rigor mortis (which probably tells you how much he works if he's really a union person) can be the first one to volunteer to leave. I hope this idiot is not really a union member ready to throw is brothers and sisters under the bus. Also, if this jerk was really in the union he would know we have a no layoff clause and Mangano himself has said he doesn't want to take that action.
Lets be clear that when members had to make a choice last year 9 of 10 voted to support their brothers and sisters and do a giveback.

Sorry your pee brain doesn't grasp the big picture. I don't want to see anyone lose thier jobs. But, no one will have viable jobs if this county continues to sink. Yes, some newer hires could lose thier jobs due to downsizing. That would be unfortunate. Sorry to dissapoint you though, I'm too senior to be the first one out the door. If I was, well, so be it, that's too bad for me. Our hostile work enviorement has created this. I guess I have to live by the mantra that I've learned from our own piers."Hooray for me, fuck the next guy" Come on, you've heard of that one before? so on that note, If I could throw you under the bus...well....Ba, bye!!!

This guy must have "pee" in his brain (it's "pea" brain you moron) and don't forget seniority can fly out the window if they go after titles. You're a friggin dirtbag who doesn't deserve the protection of a union. But I got news for you "pee brain," most members don't think like you. They do think of their fellow union members

Okay, I did my job.... I can see I stirred the pot.....oops. Yes, I may be an asshole, but I'm an honest one. Hey pal, take your head out of your own ass and look around. Don't kid yourself, at the end of the day I'm willing to bet the people you think are your friends would step over your dead body to keep thier jobs! I never said I agreed with it, it's just the way that it is. Let me ask you a question? Did any of you ever vote in favor of a contract that sold out the people below you so that you could have a better deal? Of course you have, so you're really not much better. Look in the mirror....look... oh, there you are! And sorry for any typo's english teacher!

How come CSEA has not come out against their endorsement of Cuomo? The County has hired two law firms to void our contracts like Mangano said he would. It's funny that they only announced the name of only one of them publicly, but failed to say anything of Cuomo's firm as the other, isn't that interesting?

Why IS Cuomo trying to void parts of the CSEA contract? You would think if he was a "pro labor democrat" this wouldn't be happening. Yet, CSEA endorses this guy? And why did Newsday only print the Jackson Lewis Law firm in their article, and leave out that Cuomo's Law firm is attacking the unions as well?
All unions did not give back. Not the cops, not the teachers, but CSEA did.
What I would like to see is some "legislature givebacks." Why do they continue to spend their "personal contract amounts" when we have the fiscal problems we do. Why are we sending $100's of thousands to "some" local school districts to fix their baseball fields, install new lockers, new signs, new lighting...? Aren't your local school taxes supposed to cover that? Why are we spending so much for fliers when this information could be easily uploaded to the Nassau County website by a high school student. Why all the money for photographers.
Why do the political appointees receive salaries twice as high as CSEA workers for doing the same type of clerical work? This is also a place where cuts can be made.
Why did we pay retirement incentives, only to hire the same people back at high salaries when we could have hired a less expensive part timer? Why did we allow retirees to beat the system by coming back as private vendors at 3 times their salary?
Some supported Mangano because they wanted a job.
Others like me supported Mangano because we wanted to see a job done! We're waiting!!!!?????!!!!!

First you say no givebacks, then you admit things will get much worse. If, you really believe things will get worse then givebacks AND raising taxes are, inevitably, going to happen.

What do I know, I'm a jerk according to everyone. Look, all I know is the county is in over three billion dollars in debt. That's like one of us owing three million dollars. The county can't even make a dent in the principal payments let alone the interest. The truth is, they... we.... are all in deep trouble.
The county could lay off every employee they have (including me, that will make all of you happy) and it still wouldn't solve thier problems. They are probably sitting behind closed doors besides themselves, not really having an answer for a resolution. So yes, I think 2011 and beyond is going to horrible around here for all of us. Who knows the end result, NIFA, or bankruptcy? anything is possible at this point. I'm just cranking people up and trying to make them think. If the system breaks down, will people band together? Brothers and sisters....or, more likely, every man for himself? You tell me.

First of all it's obvious you're an a$$ that know absolutely nothing.
All 3 PD unions gave back and just for your information...
TEACHERS ARE NOT COUNTY EMPLOYEES YOU DUMB A$$!!!!!!
If you're going to bitch anonymously on a public website at least have the correct information...or stay in parents basement and leave us all alone to have reasonable dialogue!

Because of the teachers, we pay high Nassau County property taxes. Maybe you don't pay property taxes and don't understand the connection. The teacher's high salaries, benefit packages, tenure, and raises, are causing a huge burden on Nassau County taxpayers.
What did the PD give back? How could they still have so much if they gave back? Please let us all know of their great sacrifices to the people of Nassau County.

What give backs did the PD have, like the separation payouts? Oh that's right Mangano gave that back as a incentive to save money. That one really saved the us the taxpayers!!
And for a JACKA$$ you don't have "YOUR FACTS" right Nassau County does have Teacher's on the payroll, they work at the "NASSAU COMMUNTY COLLAGE". They have not giving a dime back and continue to receive big raises every year. So before you tell me to stop sitting around in my underwear in my parents basement, I'll let you know that I am a slab-dweller that owns his home. So take your shine box and tell your reasonable dialogue elsewhere!!

Again, I say legislature givebacks!!
They don't mind spending $300,000 to put a soccer field in Bethpage, or fixing Sea Cliff's Town Hall, more playgrounds for the North Shore at $20-30,000 a pop.
These extras are great when times are good. It enhances the quality of life in Nassau and makes it a desirable place to live -- but not now!! We can't afford it. Then they will demand givebacks from CSEA. If they stop the spending, we would be OK, and the low paid CSEA workers could afford to continue to live here in Nassau.
The first thing that needs to go is the personal spending of the Legislature and the County Executive for their pet projects. Let them make a promise to the people of Nassau County to cut that out of the budget in 2011. How are we supposed to believe that cuts from the workers are what is needed, when more appointees continue to be hired, and the spending is not coming to a halt?

I find it interesting that no one can state any givebacks by the PD. They make too much and have to many perks. $600,000 termination payouts are way out of line.
You don't see our vets getting money like that, so forget about how our Nassau County PD is putting their life on the line so they "deserve it."

All of the guys/gals in our union 'gave back' in the neighborhood of $7000 - $8000 for Suozzola... Oh and I'm in a police union.
It was well documented in Newsday and the Long Island Press. Do your homework next time.

All the unions gave back and CSEA employees beyond their steps have basically not seen an increase in their checks for three years. 2008 without a contract, 2009 two-week pay deferral (equivalent to no increase even though we did get the COLA) and this year's COLA deferred until November.
By the way, all the jerks talking about getting stabbed in the back by their fellow CSEA members should look at the facts instead of their assholes. When push came to shove in 2008, the membership voted overwhelmingly to defer pay so there would be no layoffs. The members stood shoulder-to-shoulder and that's the way it's supposed to be.
Some of the shit heads on this site should give up their union cards.
