NCDC Chairman Jay Jacobs is asking Democratic committee members to support Trish Farrell for County Clerk and Kathleen Rice for District Attorney. In this endeavor he is being assisted by Bob McDonald, Gerard Terry and Steve Schlesinger. They are trying to persuade, cajole, plead, order, influence, even bribe Democrats into total and absolute compliance and obedience. This is being done at great political cost and sacrifice. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

Chairman Jacobs and his cronies failed in an attempt to get the Democrats to cross-endorse Republican DA Denis Dillon, who happens to be their friend. This is the man who tolerates priest pedophiles, has extreme antiabortion views, indicted Legislator David Denenberg for nothing, and is clueless regarding gang violence, environmental crimes and cyber-crimes. Dillon does nothing about political corruption cases unless he can personally benefit. He is also a member of Opus Dei, an extreme right wing Catholic religious organization made famous in the book, “The DaVinci Files.” Now Jacobs tells us that Kathleen Rice, a Republican import from Philadelphia, is the best and only hope Nassau Democrats have of stopping Dillon. In other words, Nassau Democrats are stupid, lazy, tainted with corruption, etc. and therefore are unable to stop Dillon ourselves. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

Chairman Jacobs forbids Kathleen Rice from using abortion or choice as an issue against DA Dillon. This is in spite of the fact that a majority of Long Island voters are pro-choice, that Dillon loves to publicly discuss his extreme views on abortion and that County Executive Suozzi has made choice a county issue for the executive and legislative branches of county government. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

Chairman Jacobs assisted Kathleen Rice in apparently violating the Hatch Act’s prohibitions of campaign activity by candidates while still in Federal employment. Interestingly, the Chairman and Rice have different accounts as to the nature and source of Rice’s $100,000 campaign war chest. The existence of the war chest was announced to the media while Ms. Rice was still a federal employee. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

Chairman Jacobs wants us all to forget about the fact the both the United States District Court and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals blasted Ms. Rice’s legal conduct and knowledge in the case of United States v. Coward. Even her employer, the United States Government conceded that she was inexperienced. However, Ms. Rice had spent eight years previously in the Kings County District Attorney’s office trying cases! You would have thought that she would have learned basic constitutional law regarding the admission of evidence. Chairman Jacobs sees Ms. Rice as the best and only hope to stop Dillon’s re-election. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

Chairman Jacobs wants us all to forget about the pending Federal case in Brooklyn, Butts v. The City of New York and Kathleen Rice. That’s the case where an innocent man was charged with murder and thrown into prison. He stayed in prison for over two years and when he was finally tried, he was found not guilty by a jury which deliberated less than 10 minutes to achieve that result. Right in the middle of this farce was Kathleen Rice as an ADA in Brooklyn. Ms. Rice was apparently more interested in conviction rates than securing justice. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

Chairman Jacobs wants us all to support Trish Ferrell for County Clerk. A nice person and an obscure ADA in Dillon’s office, Ferrell has no experience that would warrant her election as Clerk. In fact, she did not choose to run, she was asked to do so by the Democratic leadership. The Republicans are sending in an experienced Assemblywoman for the race. Logic and reason would dictate that Democrats use their strongest card, Rocco Ianerelli, to win that position (and its related patronage). Apparently, the Chairman feels that Rocco, not being an attorney, is unfit to run. Maybe, Rocco’s historical ties to Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli is the real problem. Perhaps it is due to the fact that the Chairman previously made a deal with Dillon and the Republicans which involved the Democrats losing this race on purpose. Yet, Jacobs is an honorable man, as are they all, all honorable men.

As the Roman Senator Cicero lamented, “O Tempora, O Mores” (such times, such morals). Unfortunately, we have run out of time and I still haven’t provided reasons to support Ferrell and Rice next week at the Democratic County Convention. I have it! If you want the Republicans to win in November, support Ferrell and Rice in June!

WHo says it's death to vote your conscience at the convention? If EVERYBODY did it, there would be NOTHING jay could do. You see, he needs county committee people and the hard work they do or he can't get ANY of our candidates elected.
County Committee people and NO ONE ELSE have the right to selct out candidates. This is supposd to be a democracy! Party leaders are not monarchs or dictators, they are elected by us, the county committee people. They report to us, we don't report to them.

Come on. Be a real Democrat VOTE the way YOU want to vote.
