Dear Parents and Guardians;
I find it very disturbing that a basically uniform community voted down our budget. Mr. Maloney held 10 different budget meetings; each one was attended by approximately 15 people. He explained what the district is up against as far as state funding, and showed how much they had already cut. Our budget began at almost a 15% increase. Reducing it to the 8.77% presented was extremely difficult, without sacrificing quality. People need to see that New York State is the reason for the high budgets. Look around; we are not the only district with this problem. Actually our increase was one of the lower ones on the island.

I was also told that a lot of 5th grade parents voted down the budget to keep their children in the elementary schools. This in itself is a problem. The children might just get to stay now, but the school will be nothing like they are used to. No Spanish, Science or Clubs. In other words, we are losing the great programs that make RCK such a special place. We are looking at losing teachers, which means larger classes. Is that really what you want.

Then there in the Tax Pac letter, filled with half-truths. Our teachers' saleries might be high, but then look at the amount of time those teachers have been teaching in the district. If I were at a job for 35 years, I'd expect the same salary. The teachers of RCK give of themselves constantly. They are always available when a parnet has a question or a child needs extra help. But the main part of the problem with the letter from Tax Pac is that votong down our budget does not affect the teachers' salaries. They are under contract. It hurts our children, who are losing programs they have grown to enjoy.

I honestly hope the School Board decides to put the bbudget to a revote and that it passes the second time. Our children deserve what the East Islip School Disctrict has to offer. They don't deserve these cuts. After all, isn't the school district the main reason you came to live in the East Islip/Islip Terrace area?

Please help keep the programs our children are entitled to. Fight with New York State for the proper funding for all the standards thay are changing. The State funding has not been significantly increased, however the state's requirements have, and that is where the real problem lies.

Remember that the only ones we are hurting without a budget are our children. The way the budget stood, the increase was $14 per month. That is less that 50 cents per day.

Sincerely, RCK PTA President

Threats, lies and intimidation.

This is the PTA's standard operating procedure.

When things get tough, take it out on the kids.

Is this what it has come down to.

As a parent I resent it.

There is so much waste in school budgets it can feed the incinerator with dollar bills for a year.

They threaten to take it out on the kids.....
I say we take it out on them!!!!!!

You are so far from the truth!!! Intimidation and scare threats are the tactics of certain Board of Education Members not the members of the PTA. This letter was a well thought response to questions and remarks that parents expressed about the school budget (such as "A revote is an automatic thing" or that "Kindergarten is required by law") You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Who do you want to take your frustration out on? Members of the PTA who are there for the kids. Find something else to whine about!!!

It appears there are certain board members that are brutily honest. They seem very concerned and are in it for the community, you should not be bad mouthing them. You may not like what they say but at least you are getting the real deal. I guess they should just tell you what you want to hear. ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE, taxes are low and everyone is doing great. We have money to burn. Get real, grow up and be productive not destructive.

Listen carefully, the next time that Board Member goes around talking to anyone who will listen to him. He is not brutally honest as you state. He is a big bully. Differ with his opinion and see what he says to you. Ask if that is really productive!

At least the big guy will tell it like it is. If you do not like the truth that's tough. At least he does not have his head up the union's ass, like Frank does. He is worse than Kerry with his flip-flop act. When is everyone going to realize one thing. And that is we are working to pay our taxes which goes to out of control teacher salaries, pension costs and health benefits. Let's ask at the next board meeting what the teacher's union has done to help off set any costs to the district. The answer is ZERO. Because if they did I am sure the would be tooting their own horns about it. Their union pres. sits at the meeting's knowing that she could help and say's and does nothing. Her membership is taking a beating and she sits and say's nothing. Let's see when some of her membership get's pink slips because she has done nothing. I bet she could care less about the ones that do not have tenure or even were around to vote for her. So, at the next board meeting let's ask what the union has done to help out with $$$$$, not a song and dance. And if that clown director for Foreign Language gets, up with her BS story that pre schoolers need Spanish I will scream. You talk about a load of crap. Let the kids learn Math, Writing, English, History and Science. Screw her and her foreign language before Middle School.

Why don't you ask the big guy about how he feels about the people who live in Islip Terrace? How he describes the houses in Islip Terrace? Don't they pay taxes too or isn't their money good enough? He has a proven track record for speaking before he thinks. He will tell you how he has the supertintendent in his back pocket. So who is up who's ass?

The letter sent home with the children was very disturbing...and not true...who would have blinked at $14.00 per month? on this budget my takes would have gone up $140.00 per month and I live way north of the tracks.

As far as getting approval to send this letter? Believe me I would not get approval to send out a letter as to the real truth
I thought that letter was insulting...and also not informative and very partial.

The elem. children are going to lose spanish....
what about the high school 9th graders with no electives and 2 study halls.
What about the 10th graders that have to go online to view their textbook because they do not have enough?
What about the board telling the Para's the day of the vote they have reached an agreement...only to take it back after the budget failed?
They feel that they were taken...again. ...

I felt this letter was not a represetation for all the children...and since when did the PTA ever get politically involved?

What about the fact that we did not make Newsweeks top 1000 schools, but we have the 8th highest paid teachers on Long Island.

What about al the Bad teachers who do make six figurese, where is there accountability.

And the line about the 5th grade parents...when this first came about I was at that meeting...the community overwhelmingly opposed the 6th graders going to the Jr.High , but they built it anyway, where are the listening skills here, respect? communication? some of our board members lack these qualities?

Maybe we should start a group to to try and fix these problems. Not a EI bashing group but people that represent the community.

I know people who voted yes to the budget...after recieving this letter they are now voting NO....

You two should have been in that movie Dumb and Dumber! Do you think everyone listens to you idiots? It is unbelievable the nonsense you spew. The big guy never said anything about the other side of the tracks crap, one of those teacher shills tried to stir the pot with that nonsense. He lives north of the tracks (in a rather big house I might add), so stop with the crap. I also see him all over town helping our community. If everyone put in as much time as he does helping people, this town would be even greater than it is. He can come across hard at times but I think he is just passionionate about DOING THE RIGHT THING and he can't be bought off. Were you at the last meeting, it is evident that he is the most informed board member. So Dumb and Dumber think before you type or even better why don't you two go and run against the big guy, so you can find out who the community would support. Oh boy would you two get destroyed!

By who ? The community will never vote for your bought and paid for hacks. The majority likes honesty and he gives us that. He definitely cares, which is refreshing. They also know he is the only one looking to tow the line on taxes! Keep lying to yourself if you must, but please watch where your going in those SUV'S. Long live the giant.
