Its worse than that. If a single mom and her 4 children share 1 motel room, the motel owner will get paid for 5 people. I'm not sure what the "sharing" rate is, but I heard its not much less. If it is about $50 per person, that would be $250 per nite for a room at the Jericho Motel. Multiply that by 30--$7500. A nice home for the family would be less expensive, and would provide a better environment for the children.

I know someone in a similar situation but she works full time in a minimum wage job. Her problem was medical - cancer on top of a degenerative disease & complications - she's lucky she has medical insurance but the copays and the meds she needed wiped out every penny and put her so far in debt she'll never get out. DSS can't help either because she has an income & she had to move in with someone too because she couldn't pay her rent anymore but as soon as they sell they're moving to the Carolinas & she's not sure whats she's gonna do. so lets tax her purchases another 4%. That'll help.

Its a free county close social services all together who needs them
