The final solution.

Washington would be proud indead!!
Perhaps we would all be better off around here without the burdens of the rest of the state. I have often said that the rich can not live directly next to the poor.
Perhaps the money I just saved on school taxes will buy me enough weapons to get Albany off my back!!!

I was all set to rail against school taxes too, but after seeing all the misspellings, syntax errors, and other assaults on the English language on this board, I'm reconsidering. Suceed when you mean secede? Indead? C'mon.

Start with yourself jackass.
Do you mean "indeed" or "instead"

Get past the syntax tough guy! The topic is more important than the syntax. Try sticking too it.
If we are sticking to proper syntax and I were a syntax-nazi like you... "C'mon" is not proper English.
I agree - SECEDE and hope that we succeed.

BUT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT SCHOOLS! Do you want people to take you seriously? Learn how to spell. It looks ridiculous. And "indead" was a reference to the earlier post - learn to read as well. If you handed me a memo that looked like that - "You're fired".

And another thing... you should never start a sentence with "and."
You read through piles of crap only to find more crap. Any comment on the subject - of course not.
AND I support censorship after reading this message board.
We should succeed.

One question about the topic: if we SECEDE, then how do we replace the education $$ Albany sends? I realize we wouldn't be paying state taxes, but we wouldn't be getting state aid either. Wouldn't it be a wash?
AND after reading the previous 3 posts it's obvious we didn't spend enough on education, at least in 3 cases.

It is obvious to me, after reading these posts, that Albany has not provided us with "a sound education" given all of our spelling errors. Maybe we can do better ourselves!
I vote for secession!

Actually hedgehog if we seceded, you will still pay state tax. Only now to the state of Long Island. Given our property and income wealth... it seems like a win-win for LI if you can politically pull it off.
I have heard about this at some finance conferences I attended many years ago. It was an idea that both political parties gave some thought to in the 1980's. Obviously it was tabled. I am sure the rest of the state would not be happy.
The district I retired from was pretty wealthy. Only 13% of the budget was funded with state aid. The presumption was that because more state aid left LI than received... if we just formed a new state we would have a better "yellow brick road." Actually a "gold brick road" according to some.
On a similiar note, there was one district that I heard toyed with the idea of a board motion to refuse state aid and thus all of the mandated costs. They computed a "break even" point in terms of dollars.
...and then they politically woke up!
I personally love the idea (but I am retired!)

But when Wall Street is hot, doesn't the whole state benefit? And wouldn't we miss out on that?
id love to find out more about these ideas....they sound very good....thats why our leaders will not act upon them because they make sense.....

Good point about Wall Street. I dont think we are getting any of that money anyway. The Long Island Association (LIA) as well as the Nassau County comptroller put out reports recently showing how much state tax long islanders pay and how little we get in return for state aid. Wish I could remember the web address. Sorry. Like I said, I personally like the idea of a new state called Long Island. If we could keep our own property and sales tax wealth and distribute to the two counties the way we want...
Newsday headline would read: "Education Finance Problems Solved."

OK, I'm sort of on board. But what you're really saying is our LI reps in the State Senate are not bringing home the bacon, right?

Our LI reps are grossly outnumbered in the senate. They are not bringing it home!
I like the idea too but it is really moot. Who has the political chops to take this on?
its time now

Would this include just Nassau and Suffolk, or would we take all of the island (ie Queens)?

Leave Queens and Brooklyn. Take the canoli's.
If NY were to be divided, Upstate would be the poorest state in the country....goes to show how much the downstate supports the upstate region. Albany should allow us to recieve our fair share of the taxes.

With the amount of corruption and fiscal mismanagement here on Long Island, not to mention the cronyism in political job placements, do we want these crooks now managing all our finances. The nassau legislature does no work for more than a month, half of suffolk county is being indicted, our police departments are in disarray and many towns and villages can barely manage themselves. Most people, if you read some other posts on here, can't stand the way their school boards, towns, villages and counties are being run let alone the state. It is time to realize that the problem lies with the way government functions no matter the size and not with the location or area that it serves. Taxes are out of line everywhere and if any one thinks anything will improve by seceeding from or staying part of NYS they would be wrong. So long as the taxpayers continue not saying no or enough is enough the problem will continue. In my opinion everything that is wrong with politics and government can be seen in the current nassau county executive. As soon as the voters elected Mr Suozzi to another term, he began his campaigning for NYS governor, and the legislature did nothing but fight about who was in charge. What a scam! Hey Suozzi how about running for governor on your own dime instead of the already stretched taxpayers dime of the county you are supposed to be working for. I noticed his boy Mejias donated his salary for the past month to charity, well how does that help the taxpayers who recieved no benefit during the legislative feud, it doesn't but it will give Mejias a nice write off come tax time. More scams, more BS.....and the beat goes on.
Suozzi for Gov, 2006 !!!!!!

Vicious nasty self-centered obnoxious dishonest people are not unique on Long Island or on this message board. In fact those traits are fairly pervasive here on the Isle of Long. So why are you surprised to see those same things show up in some of your elected representatives?
