Should Non Taxpayers Be aloud to vote on school budgets??

All to often you see kids still in high school or people on welfare that don't pay taxes or rent voting in the school budget election.
Kids by this I mean 18-year-old registered voters voting on the budgets because the districts tell everyone that all the programs will stop if the budget fails. I am not against them being aloud to vote but when they vote to spend taxes that they don't contribute to, this is a problem. Something has to change.

Next time out, to the best of your ability, obtain a list of 55 year olds and older from the County Board of Elections.

Send each of them in your school district a flyer (2 or three flyers in a row just before budget vote day) that kids who don't pay any taxes at all voted in the budget election that just raised everyone's taxes by 10% last year, and unless the people of this community step up, the same thing will happen again.

It's called generational warfare, and unfortunately that's what it has come down to.

The people that reside in illegal apartments have the right to vote. So that homeowner on your block that rents out closets for apts can have all his tenants vote to increase your taxes.

Teachers send home letters about the budget with each child, every year there a school music festival the night of the election just to get voters in. Its all a game.... The illegal apt tenants who have kids at the schools get these letters also and all come out to vote as is thier right ..they live in the district. The tax burden is on the homeowner not the tenant. This hits the honest taxpayer who does not rent out every space in his house for profit.

Thats why there are more and more for sale signs on LI houses. They are taxing us off the island

the county has to come up with a better plan to combat all of these people that dont pay school taxes....but yet they are able to enjoy all the benefits that the homeowner does.....maybe their should be some kind of school tax on every residents pay stub!!!!!

LOL! The real question here is should non-readers be ALLOWED to vote? ALOUD . . . . That's too funny. Personally I prefer the private ballot system, but I guess you could vote aloud if you wanted to.

Round up all those illegals and leave them stranded in the middle of the ocean, who needs them.

Say what you want but this is a real problem and will cost the actual taxpayers their retirement funds and more if it continues. 5 or 6 families in one house voting on how to spend your money isn't fare. Changing to an income tax won't work either they don't pay income tax. BigotBeGone I don't think so !!!! Pay and you can stay!!

we have the same thing in Comsewogue! the board memeber RENTS the house just so his son can get a LaCrosse Scholarship! (he was banned from his former place of residence COMMACK- He would have had no shot at the scholarship in Commack- even tho he is a great player)

NOT RIGHT at least there should be a law that EVERY school board member should at least be paying the taxes that they want us to pay! It might keep them honest..............

Bush is wrong about the borders. They need to be controlled. Global economy sucks, but people who are in this country legally deserve to be treated with dignity and respect no matter how well they speak the English language.

i understand that everyone wants to come to this country....but they come in and their kids go to school and they dont pay taxes!!!!it really isnt fair...there should be a new system that would relieve some of the burden from the home owners

I don't see why I should have to pay for the children of people who are here illegally and don't pay taxes. With all these failed budgets...that money could be used to keep the tax rate down. This is ludicrous! Levy should keep on keeping on in shutting down these illegal houses. Enough is Enough. And its not being racist...its a matter of fairness.
