Gary Ackerman obviously doesn't care about the PSAL playoff game - his daughter's wedding rehersal caused the game to be moved. Those high school players dreamed of playing at a major league park, but that means nothing to Gary Ackerman! How arrogant is he? It would have been bad enough if the wedding replaced the game, but the rehersal?
Its typical of these lifetime elected officials who are legends in their own mind!
ACKERMAN...

i will remember, but it's won't change his arrogance, or the arrogance of lifetime elected officials!!

Don't go jumping all over Ackerman for an obvious screwup by the management at Shea stadium. First of all, wedding plans are made YEARS in advance these days.
I'm sure the PSAL didn't even start thinking about this game until 1/2 through the spring season.
Put blame where blame is due.

That would be squarely on the doughy shoulders of Rep. Ackerman, who engineered a wedding where a wedding has never (in 40 years of Shea's existence, mind you) taken place, and where another one never will.
Beyond that, I see that he's leading a fundraiser this weekend to buy ambulances in Israel. I forget, does "D-Tel Aviv" appear after his name?

Yeah, 'cause God forbid anyone should raise money for such a terrible cause like buying AMBULANCES. whatever you think about the wedding thing (i can't say i care much) how can you criticize someone for using their contacts to raise money for a good cause?? lighten up. he's allowed to care about israel. plenty of people do.

Umm, Alex, I'm gonna have to go with "How About Spearheading a Drive to Buy Ambulances for the Area that He Serves?" for $1000.

don;t you think there are plenty of people IN his district who support him because of his strong support for Israel??

There-in lies what problem? What problem are you talking about? What was the subject? Jewish supporters of Ackerman and ambulances being sent to Israel?
WHAT PROBLEM ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SCOTT? IF YOU DONT GIVE ME A LEGITIMATE ANSWER WE HAVE TO ASSUME YOU ARE AN ANTISEMITE!!! What is Scott about? Is he a regular contributor to the bulletin board?
What else can you tell me about Scott? He seems very illegitimate to me. What about you folks? What are your thoughts on Scott? Why does he seem antisemitic in his criticism of the fund raising drive being talked about on the bulletin board here?

In case you haven't noticed, Scott, Congressman have an international responsibility as well as a domestic one. I wonder what you would have said had Peter King raised money for an ambulance to go to Ireland...

Exactly, there should be a moratorium on elected officials making these nebulously financed junkets to foreign lands. But, that will never happen, because it has become part and parcel of what the New York politician does. A person becoming a citizen swears an oath to disavow allegiances to all foreign lands. I would think that a duly elected American official would honor that, as well. Someone should remind Congressmen Ackerman and King that they are (D-Queens) and (R-Seaford) and not (D-Tel Aviv) and (R-Belfast).

The amount of partisan hatred on this site usually drives me away for a while. But when I decide to try once again, I find even worse hatred, in the form of antisemitism. This is the second time that I am aware of where bigots have taken over, and shown their ugly sides again. I can only assume that whoever runs this site is in agreement, and shows no discretion in what is presented here. If you don't agree with the politics of Cong. Israel, or Cong. Ackerman, don't vote for them. But striking out from under your white hood, is reprehensible.

Why don't you read my posts before labeling anyone an antisemite? You can't debate the topic that congressmen should take care of the good ol' USA before putting my priorities to foreign lands, so you'll just throw up the blanket, "fire in a crowded theater" antisemite insult, hoping that will be enough to quiet an Ackerman dissenter.
So, I'll re-state it:
Congresspersons, like Gary Ackerman and Peter King (who I didn't know was Jewish, imagine my surprise), should care more about their own country--the country wherein they were elected.

Regarding the (D-Tel Aviv) comment, that may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Swearing allegiance to the United States does not mean you do not have a global responsibility. The Monroe doctrine is long since dead my friend. I suppose you feel that all foreign aid should be cut off. That we should not intervene when people are being senslessly slaughtered. Since you have already shown your self to be an antisemite, I wonder how you would have felt in 1944.

Once and for all, how does saying that Ackerman and King (and any other politician you want to throw in there, regardless of race, creed or ethnicity) should shy away from these NY-vote pandering, nebulously financed junkets and photo ops make me an antisemite?
So, if anyone should dare to question the panderings of politicians on an internet message board devoted to politics (under the title of "Who does Ackerman think he is," mind you), and if that objection should involve the great State of Israel, then it gives you the ok to paint with a broad stroke, and deliver the reputation-damaging insult of anti-semite? How dare you!
And, then to adopt the moral high ground by invoking 1944 (and all that goes along with that). I repeat, how dare you.

Exactly who are you to tell a candidate who they can and cannot raise money for in their free time? There are 800 American soldiers based in the highly volalitile area and the more ambulances the better.
As for the wedding, it was the New York Mets who double booked, not Rep. Ackerman. Thats like holding another family responsible because a hotel double booked your room, which is silly. You don't reschedule a wedding because high school kids want to play ball.
Not for nothing, there have been weddings at Shea Stadium before and there probably will continue to be. Granted it isn't very common, but it does happen - ask Mets spokesman Chris Tropeano.

Somehow, I don't think that those ambulances were for our American soldiers, but a fella can dream, I guess.
As for who I am to post about an elected official, I would have to say that I'm a person posting on an internet Message Board devoted to Long Island politics. If we can criticize Suozzi or Balboni or Schmitt or Newburger (etc., etc.), why can't I post a beef that I have with officials like King and Ackerman?
There has never been a wedding at home plate in the 40-year history of Shea Stadium. That is a fact. Since we're talking about baseball, I guess I should say "You can look it up." Rep. Ackerman even said so when he said, "Let this be the first, then. And, others can follow." Somehow, I don't expect any future weddings at home plate (unless Don Zimmer renews his vows).
And, I don't believe for one second that these panderers (King, Ackerman, et al)--are doing this in their spare time. Otherwise, they wouldn't use these photo ops in their mass mailings.
