View Full Version : Trish over Rocco? How? And Why?

Why are Suozzi and Jay Jacobs supporting Trish Farrell for the County Clerk nomination? Specifically, what deal did they cut with the Republicans? Is it part of the deal with Denis Dillon (which I kind of suspect, since they got her from his office)? Or do they just really hate Rocco Ianarelli and couldn't find anyone else who wanted to run? Rocco is SO much stronger of a candidate that they can't possibly be trying to win...there has to be something more going on. Rocco's a well-known, long time elected official who would clobber any Republican in North Hempstead and at least hold his own in the rest of the county. Farrell's a complete unknown, not even 30 years old, who would probably lose.
What are they thinking? And how did they even find Farrell and pick her from the 300,000+ other Democrats in Nassau County?...I don't believe she's been active in the Democratic Party, since she's not allowed to as an employee of the DA's office...so where'd they get her from? How did they even know about her?
Anyone have the inside scoop on this one?

Long time elected official?? get ur facts straight...he's been elected to a secondary office (tax receiver) for one term that began 1/1/04 so he's been in office a little over one year....thats the total of his elected success. What appeals to some of the ppl on here is that he absolutley hates Jay J and Tom S, so his fellow haters are pushing him along to get back at the big twosome. It has nuttin' to do with county clerk, it's trying any means to embarass Jay n' Tom.
I knew Rocco...and he's

no hater. We all loved him when he worked at West Street. As far as Jay J And Tom S, when you work to ensure that a Democrat looses on purpose, as Chairman and CE you should be hated and REMOVED.

Assuming everything you say to be true, assuming that Rocco's running out of spite and it has nothing to do with the county clerkship, etc.... that still doesn't change the fact that of those two, Rocco is the stronger candidate. And I believe he was in the race before Farrell.
My mistake on the "elected official" part. But has been a party insider for a whole bunch of years. He's actually been elected before and would start in a much stronger position than Farrell. It's pretty difficult to argue that he's not the more viable candidate of those two.
If JJ and TS didn't want to nominate Rocco for clerk and had someone better or at least comparable, that's one thing. I'm not saying Rocco's the strongest candidate in the history of the Nassau Dem Party. And I'm not a devoted Suozzi-hater...I've defended him against what I considered ridiculous attacks several times on this board. But Trish Farrell? Give me a break! Who is this woman (besides an ADA). Had any politically active person ever heard of her prior to a month ago? Of course JJ has the race/gender thing to use as an excuse (TS and Weitzman both white guys, Farrell black woman, need balance on the ticket). But if that were it, there's other blacks and women in the party w/ more of a history than her. They can't possibly be putting this woman up b/c she's their best chance of taking the county clerk job. So what is it? Something else must be going on. What is it?
P.S. Given JJ's remarks in Newsday about the racial/gender balance thing, it'll be interesting to see if Farrell and her backers pull the race card at the convention "oh, you're voting for Rocco...so this is how the Nassau Democrats treat black women" to shame people into voting for her at the risk of being labeled racially exclusive or fear that black voters will abandon the ticket in November if it doesn't include her.
Face facts: Nothing the Dems do will get the blacks to bolt the ticket. For some reason, they can't bring themselves to vote for a Republican. Just ask Garner.
You're right...the blacks won't vote for the Republican no matter what. Both parties know that, so Dems look to maximize black turnout, Reps look to minimize it.
Its not about getting them to choose the Democrat over the Republican, its about getting them to choose showing up for the Democratic ticket over staying home and not voting.

If you think Rocco hates Jay and Tom, you don't know Rocco.

Finally, someone that gets it.

That's BS. They're not showing up for county clerk. Most people don't even know that the county clerk is elected. If blacks showed up just to vote for blacks, Andrew Hardwick would be mayor of Freeport.
The democrats can balance the ticket by running unqualified black women in throw away races. They don't need to do it in races they can win.

Harddick got what he deserved.

I don't disagree, but that doesn't change the point.

So back to the original question. Since JJ and TS obviously aren't try to win the county clerk race, why are they throwing it away by running Trish Farrell? What deal did they cut w/ the Republicans and what do they get in exchange?
Run, Rocco, Run!
Even hardened Suozzi supporters see no conflict with supporting one of the most effective and nicest guys in the party.
Win, Rocco, Win!

Ms. Ferrall has no community involvement, no party involvemrnt, has had only one job, and is not even supported in the minority community, but JJ says "she's delightful".
JJ is going to embarass every leader who votes for her because they'll realize they're not leaders at all.
Lots of TOH Dems will be voting for Rocco at the Convention. Zone Leaders can't control them.
And aren't most of the North Hempstead Dems voting for Rocco at the convention? Between the two, is that enough to get him the convention?

If TOH and NH do it, he is almost a lock, but it doesn't matter. He will get on the ballot and win, because people know where it's at on the street level.

Rocco will be the next county clerk. It WILL happen!!!
