Tue. Eve the State presented the proposals for the Rt. 347 improvements. It is wonderful that the state can take away wet lands to make a road wider.A lot of questions still not ansewered. Any one who went and wants to make a comment, should asap. They are holding public hearings the end of the year.

I understand Hauppauge Res's concern about the state taking wetlands for road improvement, however sometimes we need to bite the bullett. Traffic on the entire corridor is horrendous, and especially at that merge during peak hours.
I would rather that state take some wetlands for this project, rather than they or town and local governments steal wetlands for PRC's or other construction projects for their benefit.

There are other avenues, mass transit, car pools are a few that come to mind. Levy is doing us quite a disservice if all he does is allow the state to build another lane. If he really was so ''green power'' he would want to discourage more autos and save the wetlands

In order for mass transit and car pools to works, people must be willing to do that. Long Islanders are an independant bunch and many will not use these altewrnatives becaise it will hamper limit them as to where they can go at a moments notice.
Just look at the HOV traffic compared to still backed up cars on LIE.
any other ideas? Steel may be right we created our own problem, yet we don't want to solve it

The State should sell permits and purchasers can display them and use the HOV anytime they want. The State would raise revenue and the money could be used for hwy repairs.

We need this expansion now. For those of us who live on the North Shore it is a noghtmare, it takes forever to get anywhere. We need 347 to become a limitted access hwy.
