To the families of those that were lost today, my heart felt condolences go out to you. To the Riverhead Ambulance Company and the Central Islip-Happauge Ambulance Company, you have lost your best and brightest today, no words can ever express the true sorrow that all of us in the EMS field feel today. A true void has been left by the deaths of two wonderful people. May the road rise to meet you; may the wind be always at your back; may the lord greet you with open arms as you enter the kingdom of heaven today..... God Bless both of you!

as a member of Riverhead Ambulance it is comforting to know how much outpouring of compassion there is from everyone. We are able to at this time shut down operations on our end, and there is at least 12 area vol units picking up our slack.Kudos to those Corps. We will get through this . Thanks all.
There is good in this world after all.... I wish my department was close enough where we could do the same.

Our sympathies and deepest respects go out to the families and friends of those who passed. There is no greater gift than of yourself and these people are fine examples of that. To the "families" of CIHVAC and RVAC......we are behind you and support you and know that you will all pull through this. The entire Suffolk EMS system mourns with you.

It's days like this that make you remember what's really important. Be safe out there.
If Tomorrow Never Comes:
~author unknown
If I knew it would be the last time
that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray, your soul to keep,
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would videotape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute or two
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming, you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything right.
There will always be another day
to say our "I love yous,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do's?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget,
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get
to hold your loved one tight..
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear,
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me,"
"thank you" or "it's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Thoughts and prayers to the families of those that perished, and to those that survived.
I cringe everytime my kids go out for a call, fear the worst, hope for the best.
The pain will never go away, but the memory of a job well done, or a smile, or a funny comment will live forever in all your hearts, and in a way, they are right by your side, everyday.
After the initial numbness subsides, get on that bus and ride, like you never have done before, because they will live on through you all. Remember them through what you do, and do well.
Good luck and may God bless all of you volunteers.

To All Family members of the lost EMS members,
They did what they do best and thats caring for someone who they didn't know. This is something that is done by many and we never think about it. We, like them, both know that at anytime we might not make it home, but thats ok because we did what we love. They gave their lives caring for the ill. And GOD will now take care of them, there is a Special Place waiting for them in Haven. And knowing that I hope the family, members of both companies and the World know that TWO ANGELS were called back this week to do other work in a new place. My GOD BLESS the souls.

Billy you will be missed....Since that day I haven't stopped thinking about you. All the times we would tease each other and just laugh at each other. remember the night the EDP got tasered and was hanging upside down by his pants as he tried hopping the gate at 4am??? You made me laugh that night later on that night we had a 7 y/o boy got shot by a stray bullet hit him in the leg the child was stable and I remember Bill and I promising the boy that when he gets out of the hospital we will stop by give him some ice-cream cause he was so good the way he let us treat him and we held up our side of the deal. Jobs like that I learned from Bill he had a huge heart and it's medics like Bill who will leave an impact on your life and he truly has. I met him 7 yrs ago at Metro-Care and we remained friendly. God has his reasons why he took him and his partner one day we will all find out why. But for right now they are our angels looking over us and protecting us from out daily dangers of the job we do as Cops,EMT's,Firefighters and Paramedics. I miss you Billy till we meet again...

I am a former member of CIHVA and I knew Bill and Katie. I had the opportunity of working with both of them on many different occassions. I was terribly saddened and shocked that two wonderful people were taken as such young ages. There aren't words that can describe this terrible tragedy.

FYI from http://www.thelunatick.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32
While some of you have already gotten a similar email, I have widened my
appeal for donations. In this email are included elements of Hunter
Ambulance, New York Presbyterian Hospital, FDNY EMS, North Shore LIJ
EMS, and the volunteer communities including Woodmere VFD (and hopefully
the Five Towns of LI), Hatzolah of Queens, Flatbush and Manhattan EMS,
Exchange of the Islips EMS, and many other EMS and Fire Departments.
It is my hope to collect and donate a sizable sum in the support of the
son of EMT Heidi Behr. Heidi, along with Paramedic Bill Stone, was
killed in the line of duty on Tuesday in an accident you no doubt have
heard about by now. I did not know Heidi, but I've found out that her
son has extensive medical needs. Bill Stone, a dedicated co-worker of
mine, left behind no dependants. The funds collected will be donated in
the memory of Bill Stone, and disbursed in the support Heidi Behr's son.
The idea was first floated yesterday on a North Shore bulletin board,
and quickly grew in size in an attempt to reach out to more volunteers
and members of EMS in the region.
I would ask of you to aggressively attempt to collect funds from your
fellow volunteers and coworkers in support of this collection. Please
ask your friends and others you know to spare a few dollars from their
wallets. Post notices and flyers at your organizations. Spread the word
to others that you know. You know the drill. All of you already donate
generously of your personal time; now let us donate a little bit more -
it could have been any of us in that bus, on that bench.
I will attach to this email the original posting to the North Shore
bulletin board. In the next few days I hope to have a flyer created
which I will be glad to send out.
Feel free to contact me with any ideas or comments you may have at:

/Subject:/ In honor of Bill
While falling in the line of duty is always a tragedy, I think it may
be worse for those left behind. We will always miss Bill and his
dedication to both those he cared for and also the people he worked
with. It is a mixed blessing that he left behind no dependants.
However, the EMT who was killed with Bill, Heidi Behr, left behind a
14 month-old son who had extensive medical challenges.
I think Bill might find it fitting that in addition to pouring out our
grief and support for him and his family, that we also consider his
partner and her family. I'd like to propose that we collect funds and
donate them to the needs of Heidi's son.
With that in mind, I will be collecting money for Heidi Behr's son, to
be donated in memory and honor of Bill. If anyone has further ideas
about this, please contact me or post them on NorComm.
I will post any further information as it becomes available.
You can read a bit more about Bill and Heidi's lives in the article I
cut and pasted below:

Victims leave loves behind
BY SAMUEL BRUCHEY AND MITCHELL FREEDMAN
She was a single mother raising a son with cerebral palsy and
epilepsy. He was a former firefighter and paramedic about to be married.
Riverhead town and ambulance officials said Heidi Behr, 23, of
Riverhead, and Bill Stone, 30, of Stony Brook, the medical workers
killed when an ambulance smashed into a tree in Aquebogue, died caring
for a man they didn't know.
Behr's mother, June, said that was the way her daughter treated everyone.
"She enjoyed her son," June Behr said from her Riverhead home
yesterday afternoon. "He's going to be 14 months old next week. He's
in a lot of therapy right now."
Heidi Behr, who celebrated her 23rd birthday on Saturday, came from a
family of volunteers, including her father, John, a former captain of
the Riverhead Fire Department.
Behr loved working as an EMT, even its grueling 13-hour shifts, her
mother said. After graduating from Riverhead High School in 2000, Behr
had worked with the Riverhead volunteer ambulance company for three
years, and served as a lieutenant of one of the squads. The rest of
her time was for Jared, her mother said.
"She was off so she could be home for the physical therapist and the
occupational therapist," June said.
Three weeks ago, she had gotten a second job with another ambulance
company, her mother said.
Behr lived with her parents in Riverhead, so that either her parents
or her sister, Dana, could be home to watch her son when she was at
work. "But she worked and got everything under control for him before
she ventured off on her own," June Behr said.
June Behr said the family expects to make funeral arrangements
tomorrow with the McLaughlin Funeral Home in Riverhead.
Ambulance co-workers said Stone had been a paid paramedic responder
for the Riverhead ambulance corps for several months, and had worked
previously as a paramedic elsewhere and as a firefighter in Stony
Brook. They said his wedding had been set to come up soon. His fiancee
could not be reached last night.
His older brother, Joseph Stone, said several of the people his
brother worked with came to his parents' house in Stony Brook last
night to comfort the family. "One of them said, 'I've seen your
brother bring people back to life,'" Joseph Stone said.

Please ! make sure that the RVHVA Corps contacts and applies for the Public Safety Officers Death Benefit Act PUBLIC PSOP program provides financial assistance, counseling SAFETY OFFICERS' BENEFIT ACT OF 2002 -- (House of Representatives - June 11, 2002) The death benefit provides a one-time, lump sum payment of $259,038 payable to the surviving spouse, children or parents of a public safety officer killed in the line of duty. H.R. 3297 makes a common sense, and compassionate, change, allowing for an individual named on a life insurance policy to receive the benefit if a deceased officer leaves no surviving child or spouse.
Policy officers, firefighters and EMT's put themselves in harm's way every day without stopping to consider the race, religion or family life of the people they are attempting to save. We owe it to them to do the same as we provide much-needed financial assistance to the loved ones they leave behind. We need to take care of the Families the fallen have left behined. Thats what makes US THE GREATEST ORGANIZATION IN THE WORLD.........www.iafc.org/downloads/04benefit........ RIP
The Paramedic Program at SUNY Stony Brook would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of Heidi Behr.
May her life and work be an inspiration to all of us.

Bill: I got to know you back some years ago while you were riding the ambulance at CI. I shared the ambulance numorus times with you then. I got the job at north shore and we shared the same ambulace quite a few times. Bill you had a great heart and always had nice things to say about everyone (almost) you know what i mean!! Always had a smile on your face (Exept when we got late jobs) Your a shining star and you will always be missed..
Heidi: I only met you a few times at Central Suffolk when we would pass in the ED. You had a smile as big as life and always said hello to me as you were taking care of your patients.
