The Dillon Conspiracy Part 4 or Top Ten Questions for the Media to ask Kathleen Rice

The Dillon Conspiracy (Denis Dillon, Harvey Levinson, Bob McDonald and Gerard Terry, joined by Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs and Ryan Cronin) has been previously discussed in three prior postings to this Board.

Top Ten Questions the Media Should Ask Kathleen Rice

1. Do you believe that Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon has been deliberately soft on prosecuting Catholic priest pedophiles?

2. If yes, would you make this a campaign issue against Dillon?

3. Do you believe that DA Dillon’s extreme anti-abortion stance makes it impossible for him to claim that he can protect the rights of abortion clinics and their employees and patients?

4. If yes, would you make this a campaign issue against Dillon?

5. Do you believe that the Grand Jury investigation and subsequent indictment of Democratic Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg was a politically motivated scheme hatched by the District Attorney and his cronies?

6. If yes, would you make this a campaign issue against Dillon?

7. A complaint was filed against Legislator Denenberg alleging election law violations. This complaint was the basis of an investigation by the DA’s office. Another complaint was subsequently filed against prominent Town of Hempstead Republicans also alleging election law violations. Apparently, no investigation of these charges has been commenced by DA Dillon. Would you characterize this as selective prosecution?

8. If yes, would you make this a campaign issue against Dillon?

9. Do you think that DA Dillon has been unsuccessful in combating the growing menace of gangs in Nassau County?

10. If yes, would you make this a campaign issue against Dillon?

On the Lighter Side

In 2001, the Nassau Democratic Party witnessed the titanic struggle of two Italian Toms for the Democratic nomination for County Executive. In 2005, we observe the duel between two red haired Irish colleens for the Democratic nomination for District Attorney!

Upcoming topics for “the War of the Words”

Please stay tuned as we discuss Kathleen Rice’s background some more as well as the ties between the Nassau County Clerk’s race and the Dillon Conspiracy, the relationship between Opus Dei and Denis Dillon, etc.

I'd like to see both candidates and Dillon answer this.

Dillon guy- What laws did Dillon follow with regard to the Catholic priests? Aren't the Catholic kids safer since Suffolk exposed the sex between so-called priests and children? I say it was in the public interest to do that report. Suffolk revealed a Diocesan cover-up didn't they?

I BELIEVE IT IS THE D.A.'S JOB TO PROSICUTE CRIMINALS, IF THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS HAS RUN OUT OR HE IS NOT ABLE TO PROVE HIS CASE, I WOULD THINK HE COULD NOT NAME NAMES OR THAT WOULD BE SLANDER....WHAT WERE YOU LOOKING FOR HIM TO DO? DILLON CONVICTED 5 PRIESTS SPOTA CONVICTED 1...

Look there's more to the story than your letting on: you're playing the dillon/diocese waltz music to putpeople to sleep. There was a cover-up by the Church which allowed abusers of young people to continue to work in the Church and abuse other young people. The diocese knew about it and didn't do enough to stop it. This is a national story that has been repeated over and over. The best you could say about Dillon is that he has his head in the sand, not a posture most reasonable voters like to see the DA assume.

Fact: Denis Dillons office prosecutes over 30,000 criminal cases a year, with a conviction rate of 98.3%, thats the bottom line. Denis Dillion will win, and will win with big numbers.

YES, its a matter of public record that the dems don't want you to see.

Anybody can claim a 99% conviction rate when they count an ACOD (that's Adjournment in Contemplation Of Dismissal) as win!

How can a dismissal of all charges=a win?

What we really want to know is what is the rate of conviction after trial? Hmmmm.

It's easy to have a high conviction rate when you refuse to prosecute any questionable or difficult cases. Ask the cops or anyone else who tries to refer cases to the DA office. This isn't just Dillon - Suffolk is the same way - was under Catterson - is under Spota. They expect you to practically have the case already wrapped up for them - they want you to do the investigation and gather all the evidence for them. They want to see a winning case BEFORE they will accept it and decide to prosecute it. If the case needs too much work, or it seems like a tuff case to prove, they wont' take it - and if they can't avoid taking it - they'll settle it. That's the ACD.

Has nothing to do with wanting to prosecute or not. Most ADAs dont have the intelligence or dilligence to prosecute without it being tied up with a red ribbon. Most are not that bright.

The DA's office is a nice place to get criminal law training for a young attorney - but the best and brightest leave. The 10 year career ADA either worked up through the ranks or is too dumb or too lazy to adjust anywhere else. As long as you don't try putting one of the latter types in a civil law court like family court - they aren't hurting anybody. But that does explain the high conviction rate based on pre-packaged wins.
